Westminster Abbey has held a memorial service marking 80 years since the Battle of Britain, in the venue's first major event since lockdown.

The battle, fought entirely in the air, was a dramatic turning point in World War Two.

The abbey has held a service of thanksgiving on Battle of Britain Sunday every year since 1944.

A flypast took place after the service, with a Hurricane and three Spitfires flying over central London.

A member of the armed forces attends a service to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain at Westminster Abbey on 20 September

Fewer than 100 guests attended the service, which usually attracts about 2,000 people.

They included Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who gave a reading at the service, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Stirrup, representing the Prince of Wales.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mike Wigston, also gave a reading.

Guests wore masks - but those giving readings were allowed to remove them before doing so.

Each chair was placed two metres apart to allow social distancing, with protective plastic screens separating the north and south transepts of the abbey.

GE to stop building coal-fired power plants

In a dramatic reversal, one of the world's biggest makers of coal-fired power plants will exit the market.

Good news..but is there a catch?

There must be something in it for them Sophie, in any case though, it's great news. So is this -

Airbus unveils futuristic designs for zero-emission hydrogen planes

The hydrogen-powered planes could be carrying passengers distances of up to 2,000 nautical miles by 2035, Airbus claims

Airbus has offered a glimpse of a potential zero emissions future for flight, yesterday revealing concept designs for three hydrogen-powered aircraft which it claims could enter service within just 15 years.

All three concepts rely on hydrogen as a primary power source in some form, with the aerospace giant touting the fuel - which is also seen by many as a crucial means of decarbonising heavy shipping and road transport - as a climate-friendly solution for transforming the aviation sector.

It is good news Lucca, however, I don’t know if you’ve seen a post I wrote on the disadvantages of hydrogen as fuel. You can find it on the first page here….

Thank you Sophie, you make some excellent observations.Hopefully the technology to make hydrogen as fuel as safe as possible will be far advanced by 2035.

AstraZeneca is the latest drug company to release details about human tests of its COVID-19 vaccine in response to public demand for such information. Americans have increasing doubts about a COVID-19 vaccine, and experts are worried that an unproven or unsafe vaccine may be released prematurely due to pressure from President Donald Trump, The New York Times reported.

Just read, Premier of WA is suing Clive Palmer

Mark McGowan defends defamation counter-claim against Clive Palmer | 7NEWS.com.au

I've been ignoring it like most West Australians...with support like this, Mark has nothing to worry about...

                  istandwithmarkmcgowan hashtag on Twitter

What is even funnier is.. wet behind the ears Zak Kirkup Lib MP called Mark a "Princess"...well if Mark is a Princess, then Clive must  be the toad!!

Hahah he's met his match in McGowan.

Speculation is rife that Trump may refuse to step down should he lose in November. He’s hinting he may take his loss to the Supreme Court and that is why he wants to replace RBG as quickly as possible.

He may very well do that..can't believe it. Hopefully some celebrity appearances will encourage more people to vote...including Harry and Meghan.

I've never seen Harry look more interested in life as he does these days.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Ask Americans to Get Out and Vote:

I think his dad was bored with palace life too, judging from this picture...

The year is 1953, and Charles is sandwiched in between his aunt, Princess Margaret (right), and his grandmother, Elizabeth the Queen Mother looking as bored as anything..I believe he is still bored and would rather not be king!

Think Trump's made his choice. His favourite appears to be Amy Coney Barrett, a devout Catholic and who supports gun laws.

Trump Plans To Nominate Amy Coney Barrett To Supreme Court: Reports

Forty eight years old and anti abortion.

Yes Banjo...I believe his mind is made up. I see a lot of trouble on the road ahead if he wins the election. So sorry for the poor Americans caught in the cross fire.

Let's hope Joe Biden is successful.

What hypocrosy, she  is anti abortion but approves of gun laws that allow children to be murdered in schools and elsewhere.

Bebalang village is best known to tourists as a stop on Bali's Eat, Pray, Love tour for fans of Elizabeth Gilbert's famous memoir.

But now this small village at Bangli, north-east of Ubud, is the final destination for scores of victims dying from suspected COVID-19.

As the spread of coronavirus accelerates across Bali, workers at the Bebalang crematorium say they are struggling to keep up with demand.

It is one of the few crematoriums on the island designated to deal with the bodies of people who died with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19

Bali now has one of the fastest-rising death rates from coronavirus in Indonesia, since the provincial government reopened the island to domestic tourism.

Very sorry for the island. They are going through some very bad times, while other countries can weather the storm, another ban on tourism could finish them.

Sri Lanka says it is sending 21 containers of waste back to the UK after they were found to contain hazardous material.

Customs officials said hospital waste was discovered in many of the 263 containers imported by a private firm.

The shipment was meant to be made up of used mattresses, carpets and rugs for potential recycling.

The authorities said there was also plastic and polythene waste in the containers.

Legal action was taken after the Sri Lanka authorities impounded the material in 2018.

Officials said the 21 containers left Sri Lanka on Saturday.

What a colossal nerve. Good on Sri Lanka. It will be interesting to see what happens when the containers finally arrive in the UK. It seems Boris has a lot to handle at the moment.

I'll be watching the outcome too Banjo....

Novel nasal spray reduces viral replication by up to 96%: according to COVID -19 challenge study

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australian biotech company Ena Respiratory said on Monday that a nasal spray it is developing to improve the human immune system to fight common cold and flu significantly reduced the growth of the coronavirus in a recent study on animals.

A study on ferrets showed the product dubbed INNA-051, which could be used complementary to vaccines, lowered the levels of the virus that causes COVID-19 by up to 96%, the company said. The study was led by British government agency Public Health England.

Ena Respiratory said it would be ready to test INNA-051 in human trials in less than four months, subject to successful toxicity studies and regulatory approval.

The company has raised A$11.7 million ($8.24 million) for the development of the spray. Investors include venture capital firm Brandon Capital Ltd, the Australian federal government, pension funds and biotech giant CSL Ltd CSL.AX.

Sounds like a light at the end of a tunnel, hope the trials are successful, but I’m wondering how effective it is compared to the jab. The  intranasal spray currently used to administer flu vaccine for use among children is proving quite effective.

Coronavirus survivors formed their own Facebook community to compare notes on their mysterious symptoms - ABC News

Long after contracting COVID-19 in March, UK mother Claire Hastie says she continued to suffer from the aftereffects of the virus.

A former runner, Ms Hastie was fit and healthy before testing positive to the virus. But she says her symptoms got so bad, she sometimes needs to rely on a wheelchair to get around.

Thinking she could not be the only one experiencing this, the single mother of three set up a support group on Facebook for those going through the same experience as her.

"Over time I had a lot of heart pain and palpitations," she said of how she has felt in the months since.

"I got neurological symptoms as well as feeling a real pressure in my head, pronounced pins and needles around by body.

It wasn't long until word got out about the group, which now has 22,000 members.

Ms Hastie said the group is meant to support COVID-19 survivors who have struggled to get help or recognition that their lingering symptoms existed.
