Oxford coronavirus vaccine prompts immune response in early test, Health News, ET HealthWorld

Latest and certainly...wonderful news … AstraZeneca says the Oxford vaccine being developed in the UK produces an immune response in both younger and older adults.

Great news for the young ...some of whom have NO underlying illnesses and have died.

The news that older people get an immune response from the vaccine is extremely positive because, as many are aware, the immune system weakens with age and older people are those most at risk of dying from the coronavirus.

Exellent news Sophie and

Well done Jacinda, I like your style. Congrats to the Hon Nanaia Mahuta .. the new Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade in the land of the Long White Cloud.

It’s called Jacindamania…not only has she championed women’s rights, she’s publicly condemned racism, she’s warm, and she is showing the world what leadership can look like.

Well I didn’t  bet….I prayed.....

Special prayers have been held at Thulasenthirapuram village in Tamil Nadu, the ancestoral house of Kamala Harris's diplomat maternal grandfather PV Gopalan, who she has said had a great influence on her when she was a child.

Posters with pictures of the Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee have been put up in the village wishing her success.

Democrat Joe Biden is one state away from presidential victory after winning Michigan about 10am AEDT, placing him six electoral votes away from the needed 270.

He also won Wisconsin overnight. On election day, President Donald Trump won the battlegrounds of Florida, Ohio and Texas. Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania are still in play, although Nevada will not report any votes until 3am, AEDT.

What is the Difference Between Republicans and Democrats? - WorldAtlas

Sourced from World Atlas.

Hiya Sophie while we wait and wait and wait for the inevitable, how about a little trivia. Ever wondered why these symbols exist?

The Democrat donkey mascot dates back to candidate Andrew Jackson's 1828 presidential campaign, when opponents called him a "jackass" for his stubbornness. Jackson embraced the insult and used the donkey image on his election posters. It was then quickly adopted by newspapers and political cartoonists.

The Republican elephant came along years later. Many believe it came about, in part, due to a widely used expression during the Civil War led by Republican president Abraham Lincoln. Soldiers entering battle were said to be "seeing the elephant" or learning a hard lesson. The symbol was then popularised by political cartoonist Thomas Nast; an early rendition featured in the 1879 edition of Harper's Weekly.

Oh thank you Lucca… to tell you the truth I did not know that and since you have been so sweet to share that snippet with me…I shall share my trivia with you. It’s all about…. cake!!

Have you heard about Election Cake? Well...it used to be a great tradition in the US, disappeared for a while but in the past few years, especially during the 2016 election, the special Election Cake made a resurgence with bakeries vowing to “Make America Cake Again.”

Originally, the cake, was called “muster cake” and was created by colonial women to feed the incoming troops who were ordered for military training by the British. The heavy cake was served to militia men, as well as onlookers who flooded villages to watch the military drills.

However, after the American Revolution, the boozy fruit-and-spice cake became better known as Election Cakes, after women would bring the baked goods to polling places for the white men, who were allowed to vote at the time, to eat. The first recorded recipe for the patriotic confection was written in 1796 by Amelia Simmons in her second edition book, "American Cookery,"

Women..who were not allowed to vote before 1920, had allegedly also used the cakes as a way to sway the men to vote in line to their interests. Anyway beyond being a political ploy, the cake was used as a celebration for the democratic process.

I picked that information up from Fox News…have a slice!

Rand Paul launches anti-Trump attack ad - Business Insider

Business Insider

Trump wasn't always a conservative Republican. He was registered as a Democrat for more than eight years in the 2000s, according to New York City voter records made public during his 2016 campaign for president. Trump owned up to his years with the other party and told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in 2004 that he identified with Democrats during that time because they were more adept at handling the economy.

"It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. Now, it shouldn't be that way. But if you go back, I mean it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats....But certainly we had some very good economies under Democrats, as well as Republicans. But we've had some pretty bad disasters under the Republicans."

For once Trumpo speaks the truth LOL

Why shame on the woman?

Surely laying a wreath in LA is as meaningful as laying a wreath in London?

'Ginge and Whinge' wanted out of this Royal family farce, screeching to the world that they wanted their privacy, desperate to go off and find themselves so to speak..

Only to discover they seem just a bit too keen to share via social media all sorts of annoying snippets of their irrelevant  pampered millionaire lives.

Thousands if not millions have served in wars across the globe over the years - so Harry isn't alone in that regard, with most of these people or their descendants placing wreaths in cities, country towns, even school halls etc. .With all having as much significance and reverence as a wreath placed by an elderly Queen and her relatives in London on Remembrance Day.

                                  "Shooting the breeze!"

Two women with short hair, chatting on a bench seat, smiling and looking at each other.

Annie O'Rourke (R) stops for the first time at a Chat Seat and says it's an enjoyable "luxury" to have a meaningful conversation with a stranger.(ABC Sunshine Coast: Kylie Bartholomew)

Annie O'Rourke had never sat at a "Chat Seat" before, but as the Queenslander strolled down the main street of Buderim, a lady wearing a brightly coloured shirt caught her eye.

She loved the shirt so much that she stopped to say so.

"I spoke to her about my gay friend John Burgess and that's how we got onto the shirt," Ms O'Rourke said.

"Because when she went to her friend's funeral she bought that and when I went to my gay [friend's] funeral, I wore a very colourful outfit as well."

Unbeknown to Ms O'Rourke, she was talking to Chat Seat volunteer Merilyn Keene.

For the next 15 minutes the pair reminisced about the lives of their late friends and talked about politics and life.

Ms O'Rourke said authentic conversation with a stranger was a "luxury", but welcomed the connection.

"During the coronavirus we've had a lot of very depressed people," she said.

The Chat Seat is based on a concept from the UK and for the last six weeks, a volunteer has staffed the Buderim bench seat for two hours each weekday morning.
