A Change in Values

Some commentators are saying that the large swing to the greens was not entirely a protest vote, but a real change in values.

I think we are seeing some of the effects of a very large and profound transition from the old industrial age to the new post-carbon age. one of the essential changes is for all humans to adopt new values, such as responsibility for one's actions and awareness of how our actions affect our environment, other people, other creatures and our present and future sustainability.

Essentially, as at all times of transition, its a battle between the old, who fear change, and the new, who fear non-change as they can see the dangers of staying in the past. balance is necessary as change, if too rapid, can destabilise.

I suspect we will see as many political changes coming up as we will increasingly see vast changes in weather patterns.

What do others think?

Elderwoman I think you will find some here do not think others should have an opinion if it disagrees with their own opinion.

Fortunately outside this forum we have the right to vote for whoever we think best to govern after having a look at what each has to offer.

Some care about the environment, others think only in dollar terms while others have been brainwashed into thinking that their party is right no matter what.

I agree that there is a fear of change and a lack of vision.

Some think taxpayers money should be stored away and not used to benefit the population.

We need infrastructure such as water storage and better communications but it is obvious that certain people are against this if it actually costs something..

I hope that out of this election sham that politicians start thinking outside of how to play politics and instead, how to improve our way of life while conserving our environment.

Yes fwed, its high time our politicians gave us what we want and what we need........ rather than just what THEY think we should have. All of these election promises are just versions of how they might spend OUR money......surely its time we had a say in that rather than the very broad strokes of a "mandate to govern".

Lets just see who starts to grizzle when the electricity bills double AGAIN because of the Greens over powering Carbon Tax. Remember how they voted Labor's scheme down because it didnt go far enough?

And you have druggies being given marijuana for their little aches and complaints.

I'm all for free speech but when someone starts pushing pure bullshit at me I baulk.

Elderwomen you could be right about the change in values,

we see that plainly today, the good values have been thrown out

and now we have depravity as the norm, if you say how you feel

then you get attacked from all sides, Marriage was attacked and

now the ones who want marriage is same sex couples,

While others just move into together and enjoy the fruits of

marriage without responsibility

Where is the 'cat of nine tails' .

Bring back the stocks, and the rotten fruit to throw.

yes, elderwoman, i think we are in the midst of a very great change. our values determine how we live our lives, how we treat nature and each other.

i especially want to see a change in our traditional undervaluing of women in our society. all are equal and deserve respect......even if our views and values happen to be different.

The change you want may not be the change you get.

What is happening in our society and called enlightenment

has all happened before causing a breakdown in society.

which is actually happening today..

Has anyone read or heard of'

'The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire'

Similar to what happened to the Greek empire.

The acceptance of homosexuality..

You dont have to demonise a homosexual as they can

also be a victim of the lapse of social morals in the

society that they live in.

My Mother told me many years ago how when she asked her Father in law

about life and how things had changed (this many years ago) my Grandad said ..

"Lily nothing much has changed just things were kept more behind closed doors in my youth"

and what happens inside the home is not broadcast"

I feel where kids are concerned and other things, maybe better we do bring a lot more out in

the open and discuss what actually does happen.

I still say homosexuality is a product of birth and yes maybe they are victims but of God's creation.

Did he make mistakes? or are people born to show us all compassion and understanding?

Everyone has the right to a life and not judged harshly but accepted for who we all are surely.

Has anyone ever thought if re-incarnation is the go perhaps we each have to walk in every

pair of shoes before we find eternal life? Be judged in this case as you judge and see how it feels.

I do not judge anyone as I have seen the best and the worst

in people and know that for the grace of god, there go I.

I also know that in the end it comes down to your own choice.

We are making life changing decisions all the time, how many

of us have not wished we had chosen something different at

a particular event or time.

Of course we do not know what goes on behind closed doors,

but what is going on today is nothing more than encouraging

homosexuality by the promotion of gay marches,

If prostitutes were to do the same there would be outrage.

Yet they, in a lot of cases are victims of circumstances.

Phyl if homosexuality was a victim of Gods creation, then why do so many of those its marry and have children???????

jesse j

er what? Please explain :)

-- Maybe they were in denial? Who knows?

Jessej, just try and put yourself in the position of being a mother with an effeminate young boy who is bullied all through his school life. Would you turn away from him?
