Coronavirus is 'uniquely adapted to infect humans': Top vaccine scientist says it could only have come from an animal through a 'freak of nature' - and the possibility it leaked from Wuhan lab MUST be investigated

Scientists have produced evidence that the pandemic virus is 'uniquely adapted to infect humans', raising fresh questions over whether its origins were natural or could have occurred in a laboratory.

When we all had to knuckle down first off and wear masks I was reading about what some doctors thought should be the case of protection from the virus, prior, or long way before the vaccines.

But one today never sees the anti vaccers protect themselves from any infection and I wonder why?

Back in those days I also wore disposable gloves from the CHEMISTS, it was also advised to wear sunnies or glasses.

But you never see that happening these days.

AUSTRALIA: Testing sites and results processing pushed to the limit.

• Almost 1000 additional people have received potentially wrong Covid test information from SydPath operated by St Vincent’s Hospital. They were prematurely sent an SMS advising them their test was negative when their true result had not yet been determined,  just one day after the same lab incorrectly told 400 infected people they had tested negative.

Should Australia have backed AstraZeneca's Covid vaccine? British jab results in a low death toll because it offers more robust protection that can potentially last for LIFE AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine creates immunity for life, scientist claims

Britain's wide use of Oxford University-made jab in vulnerable people may be behind the country's lower death toll compared to Europe in recent months. Australia has administered 13.6 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine but has relied more on Pfizer with 25.3 million doses given over the course of the jab rollout. In April Australia said the AstraZeneca jab was only recommended for over 50s because of the low risk of blood clots in younger people. In June the minimum recommend age was increased to 60, denting confidence and delaying the jab rollout as the Government scrambled to get more Pfizer into the country. Britain is currently recording 1.7 Covid deaths per million people each day, according to an Oxford University-run data site. By comparison, the equivalent figures in France and Germany stand between 2.5 and 3.5, even though the UK is recording thousands more cases each day.

• Queensland has huge tourist influx with 441,426 border passes issued for visitors entering the state in just two weeks. That's equivalent to almost 10% of the normal Queensland population. This has seriously impacted COVID testing in both NSW and QLD. Effective immediately, the day 5 testing requirement in Queensland has been lifted.

WORLD
• Europe sees record new virus cases numbers ... France has reported Europe's highest ever number of new daily cases with 179,807 new cases as Italy, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus and England all reported record highs as well. A number of cities - including Paris, London and Berlin - have cancelled official New Year's celebrations, though some governments have been less willing to bring in nationwide restrictions.
• UK's daily cases hit an alltime pandemic high with nearly 130,000 in single day even without data from Scotland and Wales, up 43% on last week.
• In the US, one in every fifty people in Manhattan have been infected with COVID in the past week, things have become so bad Apple shuttered all 16 of its stores in New York due to a staffing shortage. The nation's cases have doubled in two weeks as the US sets new daily record of 512,553 with the Omicron variant behind 59% of all new infections.

One thing I have learned this year is that it would have been a good idea if the issues of management of the country with regards to this virus and the people, we as a nation needed to have a Military person man or woman to be our Prime Minister.

Mark McGowan sprays NSW with vicious tirade after state hit record Covid cases and WA records two | Daily Mail Online

Personally I think McGowan's training in the Australian Navy as done him well for this situation of managing WA, pity he could not take on the PM management too.

Certainly, Mark McGowan has shown  leadership.

Morrison has been noticeably MIA.

We do have a military man in charge of the Commonwealth Defence COVID-19 Taskforce ... Rear Admiral Robert Plath.

How much influence he has ... who would know.

As for Scomo ... as you say Axel  ... MIA ... yet again.

LOL

Thats for sure Axel!

But RnR it is not the same thing perhaps Plath should enter politics!!!

The higher numbers of cases we are seeing today are in line with any flu virus.  Alan Kohler on the ABC recently showed the graph of cases vs hospitalizations vs deaths.  This latest version of the flu virus is more contagious but less virulent and we should just declare the pandemic over and get on with life!  It just makes no sense at all to keep up these costly restrictions we are burdened with, unless the governments are determined to destroy the economy and establish total control over us.

Possibly the high percentage of people who have been vaccinated against Covid have kept the worst outcomes low.

AUSTRALIA
States break new case records yet again.
Rapid antigen test supply worries.
— The CEO of Pathology Technology Australia Dean Whiting says with global demand so high, it will take four to six weeks to get enough tests into the country.
• Health Minister Greg Hunt has promised five million extra booster doses will be delivered to providers across Australia by the middle of January, saying anyone eligible will have the opportunity to get their third dose.
• National Cabinet today agrees to a new definition of a close contact.
—  That is, someone who has spent four hours or more with a confirmed case in a household or household-like setting, such as a residential care facility who will only be required to quarantine for seven days now, and take a rapid antigen test on day six.
• A COVID-positive child under the age of two has died in South Australia with authorities yet to determine the cause of death.

A new study in South Africa has found the Omicron variant of COVID-19 may protect people against the more severe Delta strain.

The study, led by scientists at the Africa Health Research Institute in Durban, is yet to be peer reviewed, but experts say the results are promising.

The results of the study showed participants developed an antibody response to Omicron that increased 14-fold over the two weeks.

What can you say ???

US breaks all-time daily case record with almost half a million new Covid cases.

• UK's daily COVID cases hit new pandemic high of 189,213; deaths leap by 332 and hospital admissions in England almost double in a week to 2,000.

Correction: There are 832 in hospital in NSW.

Would not surprise me if there are people running around the South West of WA with infections now due to the guy from France/Queensland and his trips around Perth.

It seems that a number of politicians are making decisions, serious decisions, without adhering to medical advice.

National cabinet agreed that "close contact" as someone who spent 4 hours or more with a confirmed case of Covid in a household setting.

I would suggest that Morrison talk to his wife, a nurse, about infection.

Hi Axel

I think the horse has bolted from the stable doors now sadly.

I think the horse has bolted from the stable doors now sadly.

Have to agree Celia, for example:

1 January 2022 ...

Reduced COVID-19 isolation for NSW healthcare staff a 'catch-up' measure to stop system 'collapsing' ... As the number of infections in NSW surge, tired and overworked healthcare workers say they were left with no choice but to support reducing the COVID isolation rules that will see close contact asymptomatic staff back at work.

Australia COVID-19 update 1 January 2022

NT: 54 new cases, 2,690 tests, 247 active cases, 21 in hospital, 0 in ICU.

The lady from NZ who was helping me during my stroke and after, who then decided she and her family didn't want to 'have' the Jab and then decided to return to NZ actually ended up having the Jab herself, thank goodness.

Her thinking is that having the Jab actually made her immune system weaker, which it doesn't.

This apparently is why anti vaxxers refuse to have their Jab.

I often wonder why.

Thanks Suze, very handy to know.

Queensland not even publishing exposure site any more.

RnR

I also like to check on the stores least busy time too.

Interestingly the 2 deaths in NSW were both double vaccinated but they do not say with what ???

NSW Health reported the deaths of two people.

A man in his 80s from south-western Sydney passed away at Concord Hospital.

He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccination.

A man in his 90s from western Sydney died at Blacktown Hospital.

He had received both vaccine shots, too.

Thanks Suze, very helpful.  I didn't know the major supermarkets were doing this.  Like RnR said, our Government isn't sharing exposure locations anymore.  They seem to have just given up.

There are Facebook communities where people are sharing their Check-In information if they have tested positive.  It looks like it's up to us to inform others now if we test positive.

It seems strange to be wishing people negatives for the New Year, but there you go.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
• Victoria has had more new cases this year than all of 2020. One in five PCR tests in Victoria are positive, a tenfold increase in the positivity rate in the last few weeks.  Victoria's COVID Commander Jeroen Weimar says, "The rate of positive cases of all the ones we're testing is going to numbers we've never seen before". He says there's been a "superhuman" effort from testing staff for processing so many tests in recent weeks.
• The death of a Gold Coast man in his 30s overnight is "very, very unusual" according to Queensland's Chief Health Officer John Gerrard. Dr Gerrard says the man is being referred to as a "probable" case based on a rapid antigen test, but his COVID-positive status hasn't been confirmed.
