After watching this morally bankrupt man (Hawke) for an hour, I couldn't take any more and went to bed.

Same here - I thought the actors were very amateurish and the movie was boring so it was off to bed for me before it was over.

I recorded it and I have watched 1/2 I was disgusted with what I saw Of Hawke what a scum bag he was/is--I will watch the rest tonight

It seems just like yesterday.

JOHN Howard's final campaign address to the National Press Club was swamped by the growing scandal over the distribution of bogus election material by Liberal Party officials.

The Prime Minister became visibly frustrated as questioning over the distribution of the bogus pamphlets in the marginal western Sydney seat of Lindsay took up half the questions in his final nationally televised speech ahead of tomorrow's vote.

The bogus pamphlet - purportedly from the Islamic Australia Federation, which does not exist - claims the Labor Party supports Muslim terrorists and thanks Labor for supporting the Bali bombers.

The Australian Electoral Commission is investigating the scandal after Gary Clark, whose wife Jackie Kelly is retiring as the member for Lindsay after 11 1/2 years, was caught handing out the fake flyers by Labor officials on Tuesday night.

The scandal deepened yesterday when Greg Chijoff, husband of Karen Chijoff, the Liberal candidate for Lindsay, was implicated in the distribution of the flyers. In quitting the party, Mr Chijoff admitted his role in the distribution but claimed his wife did not know about the operation and was "absolutely outraged" when she heard about it.

NSW Liberal Party director Graham Jaeschke expelled state executive member Jeff Egan - despite his denials of involvement - and received an apology from Ms Kelly's husband, who is not a Liberal Party member.

A former Liberal campaign worker in Lindsay, Ken Higgs, yesterday accused Ms Kelly of faking how-to-vote cards to deceive voters in the 2001 election.

The scandal overshadowed the Mr Howard's final campaign appearance at the National Press Club, where he condemned the leaflets but became visibly frustrated after being asked about the issue numerous times.

Looks like you will get your wish PB, I think this probably knocks Tony out of the race.

The Greens today confirmed they will receive Labor's Senate preferences ahead of all other parties across all states and territories. In return, Greens branches will direct preferences to the Labor Party in an unspecified number of lower house seats at the August 21 election, including in some key marginals. As well as shoring up Labor's hold on a number of marginal seats, the deal paves the way for the Greens to hold the balance of power in the Senate in their own right from July 1, 2011.

I really believed by voting time 2010 A Senior Party would be

stepping up so we would have a worthy person holding power in the Senate.

We are many, so if only we

could get our act together and pull together what a force we could be.

It does seem it will never happen..........

Maybe so Toot however I do hate this preferential voting and also the compulsory voting.

Phyl, you said that you thought a Seniors Party would be up & running

for this election.

We had the Grey Party & the original Seniors Party and the Australian

Senior's Party. I thought the biggest problem with the Australian

Seniors' Party was my involvement, so I resigned my position, although I am

still a member. Did you, or Peter join any of them? There are a number of

enthusiastic people around, who are prepared to put their life on hold

to work for the old senior drain on Australia. All they need is the support

of enrollment. Nobody wants to do anything to support the rights of Seniors

least of all Seniors. You just want to deride any one that does. It is no

wonder that the Henry report treats Seniors as a drain on society. You think

that some worthy person will stop whatever they are doing & put their name

forward to represent a rabble who wont vote for them anyway. Why would they?

This makes me very nervous, my electricity bill is ridiculous now - just imagine what it will be like in the future.

JULIA Gillard faces new pressure over the failure to develop a credible response to climate change. A new survey has found electricity generators have slashed capital spending on power stations by $10 billion because of uncertainty over carbon policy. The finding has fuelled business concerns about the adequacy of energy infrastructure and likely further price rises.

The new survey by the Energy Supply Association of Australia has found that continuing uncertainty over greenhouse policy, combined with the upheaval in financial markets, are "severely" restricting the access the electricity generators have to much-needed funds.

Overall, the survey finds, the energy sector will need to find more than $94.1bn for refinancing over the next five years to replace ageing networks, connect new wind farms to the grid and service a growing population.

It seems not all States have entered into a preference deal with Labor.

In SA the Greens have opted out of the back room deal and I wonder if any other States will join them??

Tanwin, I understand that the deal has only been done in 50 odd Seats,

so far. I suspect that the Greens may be holding off in SA because they

consider that they have a chance of winning 1, if not 2 seats there in their

own right. They would possibly be looking at Tasmania in the same light.

I am not aware of what has happened in WA, but it could be a political

decision to not back Labor there because Labor is so on the nose there &

the Greens may not want to be connected with the loser in that area.

The Greens are just nusiance value, they love making trouble,

wake up voters and give them a miss

I'm a bit worried about the Greens holding power in the Senate. They don't like coal so will push for nuclear power and just think what that could do to our power bills. I had a look at the Greens policies today and this is just part of them. Asylum seekers will go straight on the dole.

The Australian Greens believe that:

an immigration program that is predominantly based on family reunions and other special humanitarian criteria as defined by international human rights Conventions.

all migrants to be given access to a full range of culturally sensitive, appropriate health services including a comprehensive medical examination on arrival.

services for new migrants to include appropriate English language classes, social security, legal and interpreter services, programs to ease transition to Australia's multicultural society, and post-trauma counselling where needed.

the elimination of the policies of mandatory detention, and other forms of harsh, punitive or discriminatory treatment of asylum seekers and refugees.

asylum seekers who arrive without a valid visa to have their claims for asylum assessed while living in the community.

planning for climate change refugees with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

I have yet to read that site Toot--but even without reading it I too have reservations about the Greens as well--

I don't think Labor should be shouting about work relations - they have recently revalued a disabled workers wage to $1.20 an hour. She received her first revised pay slip last week: $110 for 60 hours work.

Grovedale's Karen Smith, 41, had worked for $6 per hour at Karingal's supported employment program for a decade before a Federal Government review recently re-valued her hourly labour packing jam jars into boxes to $1.20
