You are right Fwed, you did say part of the Henry Report. I was just looking at the rejected recommenations and am wondering if this Henry bloke was a bit tough. Now what I want to know is - if the Libs get in will they take up Recommendation 84 - reducing indexation of the aged pension. How do I find out?

Recommendations rejected

The Government has announced that, in the interests of business and community certainty, it will NOT implement the following recommendations of the Report:

1. Including the value of the family home in means tests (Recommendation 88(c))

2. Introducing land tax on the family home (Recommendations 52 and 53)

3. Requiring parents to work when their youngest child turns 4 (Recommendation 85)

4. Hitting single income families (Recommendations 92 and 93)

5. Restricting eligibility to rent assistance for families (Recommendation 103)

6. Making any changes to the tax system that harm the not-for-profit sector, including removing the benefit of tax concessions, raising the gift deductibility threshold or changing income tax arrangements for clubs (Recommendations 9(e), 13, 41, 43 and 44)

7. Reducing overall remuneration to members of the Defence Forces (Recommendations 6d, 8c and 9e)

8. Reducing the CGT discount, applying a discount to negative gearing deductions or changing grandfathering arrangements for GST (Recommendations 14 and 17(c))

9. Removing the Medicare levy (part of Recommendation 5)

10. Reducing indexation of the age pension (Recommendation 84)

11. Removing the benefits of dividend imputation (Recommendation 37)

12. Hitting pensioner and low income concessions for utilities, transport and other essential services (Recommendation 107)

13. Introducing a bequests tax (Recommendation 25)

14. Aligning the preservation age with the pension age (Recommendation in Australia’s Future Tax System Retirement Income Strategic issues paper)

15. Offering a Government annuity product (Recommendation 22)

16. Asking the states to charge market rents to public housing recipients (Recommendation 106)

17. Indexing the fuel tax to the consumer price index (CPI) (Recommendation 65) and

18 Changing alcohol tax, that is, all alcoholic beverages should be taxed on a volumetric basis (Recommendation 71).

Now what I want to know is - if the Libs get in will they take up Recommendation 84 - reducing indexation of the aged pension. How do I find out?

Labor has said that that they have rejected Recommendation 84

The Libs have not said they will reject it.

Tony Abbott has said he will not vote for the mining tax, not vote for the superannuation increase and not go along with the tax reduction for business.

I'm going right off this Henry bloke, look at the first 3 items, he's got to be joking, surely! Reminds me of the Gestapo!

Julia looked very nice in her white....Beautiful skin and a radiant smile

and I believe she does intend to help us all move forward

and I thought what she had to say would give people hope for

the future of Australia.

Good on you Julia.

Phyl.

You are most certainly right Phyl. Julia has already proven that she will

move us forward. She was the 2nd most powerful member of the 4 person

Caucus that has already moved us forward to the attempted membership

of the New World Order, the Insulation fiasco, The Schools Revolution,

(how to build a $50,000 toilet block for $850,000) The school children's

computers, The failed Mining Super Tax & the $4 Billion Broadband that is

going to cost us $42 Billion & she has finally stopped the boat people, by

sending them to East Timor, except she forgot to ask the East Timorese.

Just two questions; how do you stab somebody in the back without killing

them??? All this aside, the second question, let me ask you died in the

wool Ruddites just one more. Just 3 weeks ago, you wouldn't consider

voting for anyone other than Kevin Rudd. Now you are determined to vote

for the woman who stabbed him in the back. I am SO pleased that you are

not MY best friends. With this fundamental loyalty, who needs enemies?

Well once upon a time long long ago now Ken

I would have voted for you

.

I felt VERY sad for Kevin Rudd as I did believe he came in at a terrible time

and did what he felt best in all situations but did make mistakes like we all do.

.

Julia? I really really like and will be very happy to see her be elected Prime Minister by

us the ordinary folk. If she fails and the Libs. appear better next Election

I will vote Liberal.

.

I do believe Seniors have done quite o.k. with Labour in Office thus far,

and just a bit better off than when the Libs. were in so lets hope that

continues.

Be good

Phyl.

My cynicism toward Australian politicians has reached an all-time high/low, depending on how you judge these things. I dont want to vote for any of them, yet I acknowledge that there is little to choose from in the smaller parties.

I did have some regard for Julia, but Laurie Oakes showed us her true colours..... she made an agreement with Kevin Rudd then stepped out of the room to phone her associates. On confirming that she "had the numbers", she walked back in to Kevin and reneged on the deal. How many times did she deny any interest in the top job and assert her loyalty to Rudd?

I have learned to expect little from our politicians and so avoid unnecessary disappointment, but Gillard has , in my opinion, shown a complete disregard for honesty or integrity in pursuit of her ambitions.

When the big day comes, I will probably vote for an independent or one of the smaller parties (not greens). Is this a waste of my vote? Probably yes, but while they have made voting compulsory, they cannot force me to vote for either of the parties comprised of lying, cheating backstabbers.

I wonder if all the Labor mob are getting their bogus how to vote cards ready to hand out at the polling booths, like Mike Rann had in South Australia at the last election, Rann is Labor

jessej

Phyl If Gillard says Moving Forward once again I will scream.

Gillard in that white coat made her bum loo twice the size, she is well pulled in, cut the strings and she would twice the size.

She looked like a painted doll, looks like a ghost,I think she has had botox, one cheek is bigger than the other, and it look she may have a nip and tuck on her neck too, so not so nice, would the real Gillard please stand up

jessej

Toot can you post the site for that info on the Henry report please?

There seems to be a fundamental lack of understanding of politics

in Australia. Everybody is talking about whether they will vote for Gillard

or Abbott. In actual fact, only about 100,000 people in either Electorate

will even get an opportunity to vote for either of them. No voter has any

influence whatsoever on who is the Leader of the Party. It is crazy to vote

for somebody because you like them. You should vote for somebody

because of how they will represent you & their influence within the

Government. Take my own Seat of Lindsay. I have a realistic choice

between the now seasoned Labor Member, David Bradbury & a very

attractive, young, wet behind the ears, local girl from a very well known

local family. The Libs are screaming that Labor has failed on the vital

local problems of Transport & Hospital. Both very legitimate complaints

of the Labor Party of NSW & nothing whatsoever to do with the Fed., Gov.

If Labor wins the Election & David holds the Seat, for Labor, he will be a

hero in the Party & will be awarded with a Ministry. If Lib wins the Election

but David holds the Seat for Labor, Tony Abbott will throw everything he

possibly can at my Seat to try to win it for the next Election. I am a swinging

voter who is very against the practicality of a Government that is run by 2

individuals, BUT, at this stage I will vote for David Bradbury, Labor, because

he is best for my area & for me.

Thank you for that Toot

You have repeated this a few times now jesse.

I wonder if you have ever heard of Jackie Kelly.

Ms Kelly's husband, Gary Clark, and NSW Liberal Party state executive member Jeff Egan were caught distributing bogus pamphlets in Lindsay portraying Labor as sympathisers of Islamic terrorists.

Ken Higgs worked on Ms Kelly's campaign in 1998 and was a booth captain in 2001.

Mr Higgs says that back then the Liberals were worried about losing votes to a small resident action group called Save the Australian Defence Industry (ADI) Site, and he says that the Liberals countered that threat by handing out false how-to-vote cards to concerned residents.

It was actually a fake how-to-vote card which was titled "How To Save the ADI Site". And this fake how-to-vote card was intended to deceive voters into voting for Jackie Kelly instead of the Save the ADI Site candidate. And so it actually said "How To Save the ADI Site" and the number one preference was Jackie Kelly.

Do not trust politicians.
