Sheep that ran wild for seven years is finally captured and shorn - yielding an astounding 22kg of wool

The Western Australian sheep (right), aptly named 'Big Sheep', had wandered off into a saltbush tree plantation when it was a lamb in 2015. Although spotted a number of times over the years, it wasn't until last month that the elusive merino was caught. A team of shearers de-fleeced the woolly wether (left) - his wool weighing in at a whopping 22.2 kilograms.

After seven years of running wild, a  22.2kg pile (pictured) of wool was removed from Big Sheep

A new mouse plague warning as numbers increase across eastern states and WA

With the effects of last year's mouse plague still fresh, farmers and rural communities are being warned to act now to avoid a spring rodent breeding boom. Reports of high mouse numbers are increasing across the eastern states as well as a "significant outbreak" in Western Australia.

Farmers urged to bait as soon as possible after sowing.

The 2020-2021 mouse plague devastated farmers after the drought and not even floods could end the rodents' rampage.

How man has changed his best friend: Experts reveal what dogs USED to look

Shocking images have revealed what dogs used to look like, amid warnings that breeds like pugs and French bulldogs are being cruelly overbred for fashion. From German Shepherds to Basset Hounds, many breeds have changed dramatically following years of selective breeding.

They were led round the Mounties' stables by Supt Kevin Fahy, 57, who was 'honoured' to have escorted the Queen into the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Sunday.

Charles and Camilla also met and stroked the nose of five-year-old mare Victoria who was a gift to the Mounties from the Queen.

Brian Bullock, 75, of Ottawa, called out and shook Charles' hand and sad: 'I have been waiting for this for 75 years.'

Earlier Prince Charles raved about the quintessential Canadian kitchen staple, maple syrup, during a visit to Ottawa's ByWard market, which is attempting to revive trade following the pandemic.

The couple were mobbed by members of the public trying to capture the moment on their camera phones as a large number of police tried to clear a path past the stalls.

Rupert Hupe, a second generation maple producer, chatted to the prince and his wife and Charles looked along the various bottles of syrups and maple sweets and said 'It's great stuff, great stuff' adding 'it's good for you'.

Mr Hupe said afterwards: 'That was pretty exciting, something that doesn't happen every day. He seemed to know about maple syrup.

Some great photos of the Mounties there.

The force was formed in 1873, following the passage of the Mounted Police Act in Parliament, to maintain order in the newly-acquired Northwest Territories, with many volunteers from the paramilitary force serving in the Second Boer War.

A woman's best friend! Hiker is SAVED by her Belgian malinois after she was attacked by a mountain lion, but loyal dog suffers horrific injuries including a fractured skull

Belgian Malinois save her owner from mountain lion attack that left the pet with fractured

Northern California hiker, Erin Wilson, 25, avoided being mauled to death by a mountain lion thanks to her fierce Belgian Malinois, Eva, who suffered serious injuries helping stave off the attack. Wilson was hiking with her pet on the Big Bar Pass on May 16 in the rural Trinity River area of Northern California when the wild cat attacked her, swiping at her left shoulder thorough her jacket. The cougar sunk its fangs into Eva's head and held on even as Wilson beat it with her fists, rocks, sticks and what ever else she could find. The hiker even tried gouging the cat's eyes. The creature finally let go after a passerby doused it with a blast of chemical mace and ran off.

[hank goodness Australia doesn't have the same wild animals that America has.

when I was chatting to a lot of American pet owners years ago from the UK it was a bit of a shock to learn how their gardens where no fencing, and some were telling me they lived up in the mountains and often saw wolfs and mountain lions in their back garden not to mention lower down the bears, most were dangerous if you didn't watch yourself.  I feel sorry for this little dog suffering like he/she has, fancy going out in the wilds like that without some protection a dog is no protection]

That poor dog, hope it's  not suffering too much.

Something to carp on about! Boy, 11, breaks world record for biggest carp caught by a junior angler with a 43.8kg whopper - just 1.8kg lighter than he is!

Callum Pettit, 11, snared a common carp that weighed a whopping 96lbs 10ozs - just 4lbs lighter than him - on a fishing trip in Reims, France with his father.

Wow - I never thought Carp grew that big.!!

Amazing footage of the animal park big cat encounter where the HUMANS are caged | Daily Mail Online

Nerve-shredding footage shows tourists in a cage coming face to face with a pair of lions that climbed all over it, with one man feeling them 'breathing down his neck'.

Dustin Campbell visited the Marakele Animal Sanctuary in South Africa and took part in its unique 'Lion Mobile' trip. Here it's the visitors that are caged - on the back of an open jeep with hunks of meat used to lure in lions for a sensational meal-time meeting.

His palm-sweating footage shows a male lion clambering on top of the cage to chomp some of the bait, just centimetres away from his head.

Nuisance wildlife removal worker Dustin, 42, had a front-row seat to the male's massive teeth cutting through the fleshy food when a lioness suddenly appeared right behind him.

Taken aback, Dustin, from West Monroe, Louisiana, USA, joked: 'I can feel her breathing down my neck, as she also chomped down on some food.'

He added: 'There's something about feeling a lion's breath on your neck that will make the hair on your arms pop up.

'The sensation was completely foreign to me. It's comparatively close to a really strong adrenaline rush.

'An amazing mixture of curiosity and astonishment.

Saved - the last dog at the meat shop: Pooch named Lucky is rescued from slaughter after he is spotted chained up outside Chinese store

Lucky was due to be killed that evening when rescuers stormed the dog and cat meat shop in Yulin and persuaded the chained-up animal to be freed. The Akita was the final animal of the day due to be slaughtered and it showed signs of having previously been someone's pet, suggesting it had been stolen. During its rescue, dog and cat carcasses are seen hanging nearby showing Lucky's likely fate if the activists did not intervene. Lucky was taken into a veterinary shelter supported by Humane Society International who take in dogs rescued from the Chinese meat trade. Footage taken by the charity also shows the horrific inhumane conditions where dogs are caged prior to being slaughtered.

[I thought I had heard everything!]

I've decided to give up being a human and become a collie: Japanese man spends £12,500 on ultra-realistic dog costume so he can live like an animal

A Japanese man says he has fulfilled his life-long ambition of becoming a four-legged animal after spending two-million Yen (£12,500) on a dog costume. The man, who goes by the name of Toko-san, commissioned an agency called Zeppet who spent 40 days making the bespoke Collie outfit. Posting photos of himself in the costume, Toko-san, said: ‘I made it a Collie because it looks real when I put it on. 'I thought that a big animal close to my size would be good - considering that it would be a realistic model, so I decided to make it a dog.'

Debuting his costume on Youtube, Toko-san shares his unique journey living as a dog to over 1000 subscribers. Since starting his Youtube channel in April, his videos have over 600k views
