Lawful excuses or exceptions for not wearing a face covering FOR THOSE WHO ARE HAVING TROUBLE OR CANNOT WEAR THEM:

A face covering is not required in the following circumstances:

Infants and children under the age of 12 years.

A person who is affected by a relevant medical condition - including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition. This also includes persons who are communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication.

Persons for whom wearing a face covering would create a risk to that person’s health and safety related to their work, as determined through OH&S guidelines.

Persons whose professions require clear enunciation or visibility of their mouth. This includes teaching or live broadcasting.

Professional sportspeople when training or competing. When the individual is doing any exercise or physical activity where they are out of breath or puffing; examples include jogging or running but not walking. You must have a face covering on you and wear it when you finish exercising. When directed by police to remove the face covering to ascertain identity. The person is travelling in a vehicle by themselves or with other members of their household. When consuming food, drink, medication or when smoking/vaping.When asked to remove a face covering to ascertain identity, for example at a bank branch or bottle shop. When undergoing dental treatment or other medical care to the extent that the procedure requires that no face covering may be worn. During emergencies.

You must carry a face covering with you when leaving home for one of the four reasons, even if you don’t need to wear it while undertaking your current activity, for example you can take your face covering off to eat. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a face covering at all times you don’t need to carry it with you.

Do I have to wear a face covering if I have asthma?

People who have a medical condition, including problems with their breathing, do not have to wear face coverings.

Do people with a disability have to wear a face covering?

Yes, people with a disability must wear a face covering unless it is impractical or unsafe to do so for medical, communication or other individual risk factors.

The total of 403 new cases is the state's third-worst day of infections since the pandemic began, down from yesterday's record of 484.

A man aged in his 50s was among the dead, which now number 49 in Victoria.

Three new deaths were linked to aged care facilities, including a woman in her 70s, a man aged in his 80s and another man in his 90s.

The fifth death was a man aged in his 70s.

Now this is a brilliant idea!

Facemask vending machines have cropped up at travel hotspots across London as the capital emerges from the coronavirus lockdown.

Since the Government made it a legal requirement to wear a covering on public transport, eagle-eyed commuters have spotted Covid-19 mask dispensers near Tubes and shopping centres in London.

New company Maskey (owner in picture) - who began trading in April 2020 - first launched the device in Chigwell, Essex.

Maskey founder Adam Freeman, 42 said he came up with idea after speaking with a friend at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak

Standard.com

An Italian researcher measured the spatial distribution of pedestrians on sidewalks to determine how mask wearing affects how well people socially distance themselves from others. Massimo Marchiori, a computer scientist from the University of Padua, developed a sensor-based “social distancing belt” that was worn by researchers in Venice, Italy over a period of two months over the Covid 19 pandemic.

The sensor belt measured the distance that other pedestrians passed by the observers in both masked and unmasked situations. The sensors were turned off when in the presence of couples, parents with children, and people with dogs in order to only collect spatial data on single person to single person distancing. Three widths of sidewalks (163cm, 175cm and 222cm) located in high pedestrian traffic areas such as food shop locations were chosen.

Sidewalks with a parallel green area or bike path were chosen to extend the allowable space a passerby could temporarily step out to. Five different types of masked/unmasked scenarios were measured: no masks, surgical masks, DIY masks (such as cloth masks), surgical masks with googles, and DIY masks with googles.

With over 12,000 encounters logged, Marchiori found that the use of masks was effective in increasing the amount of berth pedestrians gave the observers when passing by. Paradoxically, when no masks were worn, Marchiori found that pedestrians passed by with no extra space given. Despite warnings from the authorities about social distancing, the average social distance space provided to unmasked observers was only 29.4cm.

When observers donned a surgical mask, the average social distance spaced nearly doubled to 58.42cm. DIY mask wearing netted a 69.02cm average social distance, surgical mask plus googles an average of 79.79cm, and DIY mask plus googles an average social distance of 92.39cm.

People tend to give mask wearing pedestrians a wider berth on sidewalks than unmasked pedestrians in this study.

In a nutshell then:

The results from Marchiori suggest that an added benefit of wearing masks when out walking in public is that it serves to promote better social distancing behaviour among pedestrians.

Interesting research, but I think what most people think is if someone is wearing a mask they might be sick so would keep their distance, having said that if it helps people keep their distance than that is good because we cannot rely totally on the masks by themselves.

Do you not feel stupid, repeating information already presented? Are you so dense?

If you have nothing new to offer, please refrain from regurgitating your nonsensical comments.

They are repetitive and nauseating.

I have a suggestion for you...instead of UNDERMINING health information posted on this thread...  it would make more sense for you to start your own thread about the:

EVILS OF WEARING A MASK.

Your obsession with face mask is repetitive and nauseating too, I am just reminding people that social distancing is what is going to stop the virus spread not masks. What is wrong with that?

Just don't read my posts if they make you feel sick lol.

REMIND THEM ON YOUR OWN THREAD.

THIS ONE IS ABOUT M A S K S.

STOP UNDERMINING HEALTH INFORMATION.

ABSOLUTELY... RnR

The distance still makes the biggest and safest difference. Small droplets can still hang in the air for a long time which you can still breath in through a mask.

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF WEARING A

STOP UNDERMINING HEALTH INFORMATION.

So it is okay for you to post your masks comments on other threads?

I am not undermining anything, just reminding people to keep their distance first and foremost. The current outbreak in Victoria spread because people were having family gatherings with those infected and in Sydney because truckies from Victoria were eating at Crossroads cafe.

I simply have no more time or inclination to argue with a silly person.

What I have deduced a long tme ago is that you are a very SCARED woman. You are terrified you will catch the virus. You are so panic striken, you even deny the existence of the virus, but also ways to combat it.

My "obsession" as you call it with masks...will SAVE LIVES.

Your obsession with denial, will LOSE LIVES.

I have also come to the conclusion you are a troll...since your comments make no sense and are simply put there to offend and annoy.

Sad state of affairs for you...oh, and I forgot to add it's a female trait to always have the last word. Is that why you do it?

Sophie, you are full of assumptions, who said I am a woman I am Ingonito!

I am not scared of catching the virus at all, my immune system can handle it.

You are the number one troll on this site Sophie, so don't know how you can say that.

And I am not sad I am a very happy person despite all the doom and gloom you keep going on about along with your paranoid mates.

KEEP YOUR DISTANCE, only distance will save us from this virus.

Yes I saw RnR's comment, no need to repost it, I got in trouble for that.

Hahahahaaaa - still barking orders at people Sophie?  Didn't you get the memo re "facewear" or are you simply that ignorant?  Masks - scarves - bandana's ..... you seem to have this rather "kinky" obsession with Masks and mask pics. - you into bondage by any chance?   You might need to look that up?

A 9-year-old girl from Putnam County is the youngest person to have died in Florida from coronavirus complications, according to the state department of health.

The 9-year-old's death is not a travel-related case and the child did not have close contact with anyone who recently tested positive for Covid-19, records show.

Putnam County Health Officer Mary Garcia confirmed the fatality to CNN on Wednesday and said she was unaware of any underlying medical conditions in the girl's case.

According to the latest health records, the 9-year-old is the fifth minor in Florida to die from Covid-19.

The others were an 11-year-old boy in Miami-Dade County, an 11-year-old girl in Broward County, a 16-year-old girl in Lee County and a 17-year-old boy in Pasco County.

As of Friday, 23,170 minors had tested positive for the virus across the state.

Don't Forget Your Mask! by Elena Baryshkina on Dribbble

Thanks for an exceedingly informative thread Sophie. Except for the prime idiot and his/her inane comments, I have found it a pleasure to read. If I may add a bit of my own on the benefits of wearing a mask.

Droplets larger than aerosols, when exhaled (at velocity of <1m/s), evaporate or fall to the ground less than 1.5 m away. When expelled at high velocity through coughing or sneezing, especially larger droplets (> 0.1 mm), can be carried by the jet more than 2m or 6m, respectively, away.

Although, social distancing and hand washing are still very important. none of these things will protect you. However together with a mask, a person has a very good chance of avoiding the virus.

This diagram illustrates anatomy of airways and where droplets can end up, depending on their size and what droplets are blocked by what masks.

This diagram illustrates:

Filtering effect for small droplets (aerosols) by various masks; home-made of tea cloth, surgical mask (3M “Tie-on”) and a FFP2 (N95) respirator mask. The numbers are scaled to the reference of 100 (source of droplets) for illustrative purposes, calculated from the PF (protection factor) values in Table 2 of van der Sande et al, 2007.

Measurement was performed with a Portacount counter that registers particles in the air with sizes in the range between 0.02 and 1 micrometer at the end of a 3-hour wearing period with no physical activity. The number for the protection are medians of 7 (or 8) adult volunteers per group. Protection at the beginning of the test was similar for the Tea Cloth and Surgical mask, but for FFP2 the protection was double.

The science is there. Many do not understand and therefore in ignorance, they make damaging and worthless comments. Only a fool would deny the effectiveness of wearing a mask. Only a fool would find a reason or reasons why he/she should not wear a mask. Only a fool has no care and does not see the harm of undermining this essential face covering. Only a fool will argue a fool's case.

It seems to me unless something is mandated by a government, the idiots that abound will continue to peddle their trash, so the only thing left is for them to be told by the authorities what to do.

No one and I mean no one is IMMUNE from any virus. It is good to keep healthy, so that if you get it you can cope with the rigorous treatments to save your life. The coronavirus is not only attacking the elderly, the young and very young are in the firing line too. The virus is mutating and only nature knows what will happen next, so my advice, yes and I mean advice is:

SOCIAL DISTANCE -- KEEP CLEAN --WEAR A MASK

People of any age with certain underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Here’s a list:

Cancer

Chronic kidney disease

COPD

Cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, and other chronic lung diseases

Diabetes

Hemoglobin disorders such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia

Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from blood, bone marrow, or organ transplant; HIV; use of corticosteroids; or use of other immune weakening medicines

Liver disease

Serious Heart Conditions and Other Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases

Neurologic conditions such as dementia

Smokers

In some cases it might not be feasible for some people to wear a mask. They should seek advice from their doctor.

Interesting stuff Banjo, was this from a peer reviewed research paper? Can you provide a link so I can read it, the one I can Table 2 is from 2008 about the flu virus which may act differently (research is ongoing).

My point, which everyone seems to not get is that a mask will not give you 100% protection and that social distancing is the only thing that is going to stop this virus from spreading.

And why are health care workers who are wearing masks still getting the virus?

Why don't people get that? We need to keep our distance so this virus can die out!!

KEEP YOUR DISTANCE, STAY HOME, MASK IS A LAST RESORT AND WILL NOT SAVE YOU.
