What is Russia up to?

Putin splits NATO and cuts out Biden: Russian president agrees to hold talks with Germany, France and Ukraine as squabbling NATO countries fail to decide joint troop deployment and Joe says he'll go it alone

Putin agrees to hold talks with Germany, France and Ukraine as NATO squabbles

The blow to NATO and exclusion of America in negotiation talks on the Russian-Ukraine crisis came after Vladimir Putin accused the U.S. and NATO of ignoring the Kremlin's 'fundamental concerns' over NATO's growth during a call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday. Rather than meet with NATO, Putin has agreed to discuss the issue with the European-led Normandy Format, a grouping that includes France, Germany, Ukraine and Russia. Their meetings center on the cease-fire agreement that the countries brokered in eastern Ukraine in 2015, and it also offers a path to a broader settlement. Putin said he had 'no offensive plans' in eastern Ukraine, according to Macron, who said the nations' talks would focus on 'de-escalation' along the Ukraine-Russian border. Although the talks raise hopes for peace, it undermines America's involvement by excluding the U.S, and NATO as Ukrainian officials said they were annoyed by Joe Biden's (right inset) vow to mobilize troops in the area without NATO's backing. NATO has failed to come up with a common position on deploying troops to the region with many of its 30-strong members against military action (left inset).

Putin 'is suffering 'roid rage from steroid treatment for cancer': Western spies believe his 'increasingly erratic' behaviour, bloated appearance and absurd social distancing for visitors is a result of medical treatment
Is Putin suffering with 'roid rage'? Spies suggest 'bloated' appearance could be drugs

Intelligence sources have speculated that Vladimir Putin's decision-making could be compromised by a neurological disease or an overdependence on medication, as the Russian despot's health continues to come into question. The intelligence community is sharing a growing number of reports about Putin's 'increasingly erratic behaviour', combined with a bloated appearance in recent footage - and the absurd distance he insists on keeping from visitors to the Kremlin (pictured with Macron over a 13ft table, top right). Putin, now 69, has sported an increasingly 'bloated face and neck' in recent weeks (main and bottom right), prompting questions from spies who suggest this may be a side effect of a prolonged period of anti-cancer steroids. The despot sported a much leaner figure when he was famously pictured fly-fishing while topless (left) in the Tuva region of southeast Russia in 2007. Pictured inset: The indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas on the outskirts of Kyiv continued after the village of Byshiv was targeted by Russian shelling on Saturday.

I heard on the Radio this morning that Putin insists on someone tasting his food before he eats it. He must be getting very paranoid.

This is interesting Hola;  he is telling everyone that Ukraine started this so why is he feeling guilty and needing someone to taste his food then?   Nasty little man he is.

'Stop this bloodshed, return my son!' Russian mother pleads for Putin to end his war so her 22-year-old son can return home... before she is forced to flee as police close in to arrest her

The mother then takes out her phone to hold up a photograph of her son, revealing that her nails are painted in blue and yellow - the colours of the Ukrainian flag

Heartbreaking footage shows the mother risking arrest by attending a war protest in Moscow where she says just 10 soldiers are still alive in her son's regiment. She claims her son was told he would be completing army drills before being sent to a 'hot spot' in Ukraine and she wasn't able to contact him for 10 days. The agonising footage was released on the day it was revealed that Russia has lost up to 28,000 soldiers during three weeks of fighting in Ukraine. The mother, who was not named, said: 'Thank God he is alive. Only 10 people are left from his regiment. Please stop this bloodshed. Return my son.

Putin's soldiers are 'looking for Ukrainian ammunition so they can shoot themselves in the leg and get sent home, intercepted Russian phonecall reveals'

Audio reveals a Russian soldier telling his mother that his unit 'want to find some 7.62 bullets, the Ukrainian ones' instead of 5.62mm ammunition being used in Russian AK-74's, to wound themselves with, adding that others 'already did this'. He explained 'in secret' that his fellow troops are hoping 'to shoots each other's legs so they would put some bandages on and sent us to the hospital in Budennovsk', a town in southern Russia. The audio, which was published by the Ukrainian Security Service, also claims that '120 people' have already been 'sent back to the hospital with wounds' and that '350' have been sent back to Russia in coffins. The unidentified serviceman tells his mother that his crew is no longer 'combat equipped' because 'Ukrainians blew all of it up' and that 'if they attack us now, we are dead'. The Pentagon estimates at least 7,000 Russian troops have now died in the fighting while another 14,000 to 21,000 have been wounded. That accounts for nearly a fifth of the estimated 150,000 men that Putin amassed on the border before giving the order to attack 21 days ago.

ANDREW NEIL: If Putin gets the bullet in the head he fears, the West can't repeat its mistakes of the past

By ANDREW NEIL FOR THE DAILY MAIL

More than three weeks into his unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, President Putin is still no nearer anything that looks like victory. Astonishingly, it is even possible he is staring defeat in the face.

Whatever the military outcome, Putin faces one of only two prospects: his demise, possibly bloody; or a future as an isolated global pariah with whom almost nobody will deal.

Certainly, the longer he clings on in the Kremlin, the more he will impoverish Russia. Economic sanctions will only get tighter as his military machine in Ukraine acts in ever more brutal ways.

Elite Russian officers want to POISON Putin and replace him with a chosen successor to restore trade ties with West, Ukrainian intelligence officials say

According to Ukraine's Chief Directorate of Intelligence at the war-torn country's Ministry of Defence, a 'group of influential' individuals in Russia have begun plotting to remove Putin.

Mmmm ... I'll believe that when and if it ever happens. Putin has incredible personal security.

A group of Russian soldiers spoke out against their government during a press conference with news agency Interfax-Ukraine, telling fellow citizens to not 'look at the zombies.' Alexei Zheleznyak, Mustafaev Mugsad, Igor Rudenko and Alexander Fomenko nearly wept as they told the press conference of their opposition to the Russian invasion. Mr Zheleznyak, a soldier of the 34th separate motorized rifle brigade stationed in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic of Russia, told the conference he warned Putin he would never be able to send enough troops to Ukraine to take over.

Russian conscripts given 19th century rifles, made to drink from ponds filled with dead

Conscripts in the Russian-backed Donbas region have spoken of how they have been sent to fight Ukraine's forces with no training, a lack of food and water, and inadequate equipment - as Moscow's armies continue to suffer heavy losses. The new accounts of untrained and ill-equipped conscripts being deployed are a fresh indication of how stretched the military resources at the Kremlin's disposal are, over a month into a war that has seen Vladimir Putin's forces hobbled by logistical problems and held up by a fierce resistance. One of the soldiers, a student conscripted in late February, said a fellow fighter told him to prepare to repel a close-quarter attack by Ukrainian forces in southwest Donbas, but said 'I don't even know how to fire an automatic weapon.' Several Donbas draftees have been issued with a rifle called a Mosin, which was developed in the late 19th century and went out of production decades ago, according to three people who saw conscripts from the separatist region using the weapon.
