Vote for Stroke

I suffer from A.F which is heart fibrillation or irregular & fast heartbeat.

this makes me a candidate for stroke.I have been on Warferin for some time ,with its endless bloodtests & diet restrictions. In July of this year ,my cardio man gave me the opportunity to trial a new drug, which was on its final trial before hopefully going on the PBS.This was given to a lot of sufferers all over Australia.I was given a 12months free trial of this Medication called Pradaxa.

It has been wonderful, just one tablet night & morning,no more restrictions,& side effects ,& no more endless bruising from bloodtests. Now I have been told that the Gov. in its Wisdom ? is not going to put it on the PBS as its too costly for them , they wish to put it under more reviews. I am devestated , where is the wisdom in going back to 50s Medication ,which we all know is a derivative of ratpoison.

If you are a sufferer or not ,please Google...Vote for Stroke...,read about it & sign the Petition, for the sake of the old people who if they wish to keep taking it,must find $180 a month to keep well.Thank you for listening.

Thank you all ,for your support for this Post. I hope you keep sending the message offline.

I feel I have done my little bit to bring it to Public notice. All I can do now is wait & see.Good health to you all from Doodlebug.

Well you can scorch off a short, polite, hand written or typed note to the new age discrimination commissioner.

Here is a quick draft and anyone can use it, adapt it or whatever.  Remember that your note is more effective if a signed and stamped letter is sent (email is hopeless).  Do not worry one bit about your expression or grammar, it is the fact that someone is concerned enough to write that matters.  Legible handwriting is even  more effective. Then you get to post any reply for others to see.

Example draft.

The Hon Susan Ryan AO,

Age Discrimination Commissioner,

Australian Human Rights Commission

GPO Box 5218
SYDNEY NSW 2001

Dear Ms Ryan,

I am concerned about the age discrimination apparent in public policy that puts modern drugs that are essential to the wellbeing, quality of life and life itself for the aged on the back burner for review.

Like many other seniors I suffer from heart problems for which Warfarin has been the only solution in the past.  Warfarin is dangerous to use, results in all sorts of complications and is actually dearer than modern drugs because of the regular medical screening that is needed and lives lost.

On the other hand the modern drug Pradaxa could save around five hundred lives a year and save public funds and medical resources in treatment at the same time.  The Age newspaper of 3 November 2011 had a story by Mark Metherell on the subject.

What I seek is for your office to consider this matter and policy affecting aged care.  It is regretable that the aged care system has been broken for years but policy has languished - unlike other areas of public policy.  Why is that so?  The elderly draw the obvious conclusion, that they don't matter and they are an easy target for discrimination through lack of attention and avoidance.

Yours sincerely,

I sent the petition...
