This Thread is about how a person who had a stroke in May 2021 is experiencing life AFTER the stroke. My Ups and Downs.

Has anyone had radiation treatment in Australia over the last couple of years please?

Husband has just been given the costing and it doesn't make any sense.

Medicare pays $20,000

If you have to have radiation treatment you are expected to pay a further $620,00 a week for five weeks.

Even if you are on a Part Pension or Pension!

I have a super cleaning lady that helps me in our home;   she is a wonderful person her name is Mary and I really enjoy chatting to her.

She is not born in Australia and she has five kiddies, the oldest is 16 and I asked what he wants to be?    Mary said he wants to be an electrician and goes once a week to work, his siblings are still at school and one girl is tall and plays basketball.

It is really great chatting away with her and learning about her culture and life before she came to Oz.

She was born in Northern Sudan and went to Egypt as a 14 year old with her family before coming over here to WA.

I asked her today do you think Australians are spoilt?

Oh yes she said!      I agree with her, she wants to save up and take her family back for a holiday to South Sudan too.

I asked what her biggest problem has been since arriving in Australia?

Her reply put a tear in my eyes, she said my colour!

How sad, fancy telling a book by its cover.  She is very tall and very black but has a heart of gold and cleans our home very well, she said she learnt to house clean in Cairo as a 14 year old.   I am thinking how many 14 year olds do I know here in Australia that will go out and learn how to house clean?   Not many I guess.

I could spend an hour and sit down and chat with Mary she is so interesting.

One thing she also has commented on and that is the lack of respect in Australia for Seniors!

Hang on to this one Celia, she sounds like a winner.  I  have a lovely friend who lives near me, she is Vietnamese. Her Mother is 93 and had 10 children., all grown up now and scattered all over the place. My friend goes to work 6 days a week and when she finishes work she calls in to see her Mother, gives her a bath and prepares her evening meals.  I asked her why doesn't the others help and she said because she is the youngest and it is expected., she is 54.

WA freight ‘backlog’ as Trans-Australian Railway link restoredMichael RamseyPerthNowFebruary 15, 2022 3:24PM TOPICSShoppingLifestyle

Supermarket shelves are unlikely to be fully restocked in Western Australia for up to six weeks despite the restoration of freight routes.

Flood repairs have been completed across a 300 kilometre section of the Trans-Australian Railway after the network ground to a halt for more than three weeks.

The rail line is the key freight link between WA and the eastern states, providing supplies to the major supermarket chains and many other businesses.

Last month’s one-in-200-year weather event led both Coles and Woolworths to impose temporary purchase limits for WA customers on a range of goods including pasta, rice, flour and sugar.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti says it will take some time to address the significant freight backlog.

“We expect another four to six weeks until all the lines are available in the stores, as a result of trying to clear the backlog from over east and also making sure the distribution centres are full again,” she told reporters on Tuesday.

Ms Saffioti said 55 triple-road trains had brought essential goods across the Nullarbor during the outage.

They are usually banned for safety reasons between WA and SA but have been temporarily allowed during the rail freight disruptions.

A “land bridge” was utilised by 32 trucks, allowing goods to be moved by rail from the eastern states, via trucks through SA and then rail again between Kalgoorlie and Perth.

Some retailers have meanwhile contracted shipping lines to bring in containers of food, with the first ship due to arrive in Fremantle next week.

Ms Saffioti said there was a recognition at a national level that shipping should play a greater role in shoring up supply chains and that roads needed to be upgraded.

She also called for greater floodproofing of the rail network to prevent such disruption in the future.

“Eighty per cent of what is on our shelves relies upon that train line. So we really need to make sure that we can improve that resilience going forward,” she said.

Does anyone grow in their garden The Queen of the Night please?

I was given one about five months ago and it seems to love the area I put it in next to the orchids and it has taken off and it looks if it may be coming into flower, I don't know what colour it will be I didn't ask!   But I think at the rate it is growing I may need a larger pot.

Any one have some tips on how to car for them please?

You would be better off to post this question in the GARDENING SEGMENT

Where people interested in gardening may be able to find it.

I do believe RnR put up this link

https://forums.yourlifechoices.com.au/the_meeting_place/topic/in-the-garden

Thanks for your help Suze;  I used to have a Thread in the Gardening section as a few of you will know but it has recently been removed, so I cannot be bothered with the Gardening Section any more.

RnR tried to find it but even she couldn't.

I opened up the the segment and I can see that you have been posting in it ???

Where is this Suze please?

I see it is 1 year ago?

Celia

I put your gardening question in the right segment .... click on the link above

Many thanks Suze!

Looks beautiful Celia. I've never heard of them before.

Been to the Cardiologist for a check up, had to have the implant checked too.

Not a fan of going to the doctors, this is an on going thing from the Hospital and they want to work out why and how the stroke happened.  The implant is meant to record any erratic heart beats.

Today I get my hearing checked, all this because of the stroke.

I wonder how many people are in the same boat as I am this Thread was started for them to follow up on things like this I just wished that others with similar health issues would join in!

Celia, I’ve just started on BP medication (low dose, Olmesartan 20mg) and wonder if I’ve done the right thing.  My doctor said I wasn’t overly high yet at my age (77) but left the decision up to me, (which makes me wonder).  I agreed because I basically believe what this article says.  I know I shouldn’t go to Google, but I couldn’t resist. lol

If your blood pressure is too high, your arteries can thicken over time. They become weaker, less flexible or more prone to clots, and this can cause a stroke……

Agree it would be helpful if others reading this who have suffered a stroke would tell us about their experience, we are all so different.

Hi Toot.

I am not expert so I can only rely to you with what I have experienced myself.

Up till about Christmas I was daily on :-

Tryzan 1.25   [which you can see is very low]

also

Lorstat 40    [to keep the cholesterol low]

also Aspirin

I have a blood pressure monitor that I record several times a day, mainly because of my intack of Histamines which puts my BL up.  This is a new field of science unfortunately for me.   I have been tested by the Alogyst and he says I am not only sensative but have an allergy to Histamines.  Which works like this, a few weeks ago I was eating strawberries and grapes and wonder why I was getting high blood pressure, found out that they are high in histamines;  also I have to keep well away from Bananas as they have a chemical in them that activates the histamines in our bodies.  Then the same situatin with Citrus.  If I have a lemon or an orange all hell breaks lose and my blood pressure goes crazy.

Now I know these issues I can keep well away from them although it is difficult when I am eating out!   If I record high blood pressure here at home and it goes over 130 I will take one of those tablets called Tryzan 1.25 to counteract this issue.

I also have found that when this happens if I drink water it helps also.

What the Allergist has said is sorry Celia but that is all I know, the problem has not been found as yet, so it sits with me to record my blood pressure reading abut six times a day and monitor it in a diary.  However, I am getting so used to the feeling I can pretty much know I am having a reaction to food and then I take the reading to see what is happening.

The problem is as I explained to the GP, I do not need to take a Tryzan 1.25 with a low blood pressure reading!   For obvious reasons.  LOL

So I agreed with my GP that I only take this table daily if my BP is over 130 a day.

I guess this is a bit hard for you to follow.

I think I have mentioned before, about four months ago I had a Nurse call in at 8.20am and she asked who I was?    I gave her my particulars and she said but you are walking and talking!   I was horrified to hear a trained nurse making these comments, since then it has been stated to me thank goodness that everyone has a different reaction to their Strokes we are not all the same.

Also Toot the implant is to test if I had Atrial fibrillation, so I am a bit of a guinea pig!

The Audiologist I visit on a regular basis has a Masters in her field and runs her own business, it was an interesting chat today about how my stroke has progressed, like the conversation I had with the Neuroophthalmologist I attend last November, they both agree the issue was the swelling in both the eye and brain.  Now that has reduced it hels with my vision and hearing.

I mentioned that some have hinted that I didn't have a stroke!   They were shocked.

Said as much to the GP last October and he said you defiantly had one.

So now my hearing issues are not better, not sure if it is old age or the damage done.

Lovely, thanks Celia.

Toot,

Did you manage to sort your blood pressure issues out and are you happy with them?

Restoration of Australia's old homes and buildings is a TV programme we were watching this afternoon, quite interesting.

It was on what was supposedly Bango Patterson old home in NSW.

Restoration Australia : ABC iview

Have not been on the net for 24 hours; husband has now had high blood pressure so I called the ambulance last night, he decided to take their advice and stay home and rest, but could go to hospital if he wanted due to his age, he is 80 in two weeks.

He spoke to the GP on the phone and we had a trip to have the Ovid 19 tests just now, luckily we were able to get appointments this afternoon so we didn't have to line up in the heat.

Personally I don't think it is Ovid but some infection in the sinus.

Daughter just contacted me to say little one has been called home with all the rest of the school as one of the kiddies has come back positive on a RAT Test.

She is an occupational therapist and now all her appointments are messed up.

Talk about head aches.

Hope your hubby gets well soon Celia

Thanks Suze.

Celia, you have so much on your plate.

I know your husband is unwell and I hope the blood pressure issue resolved itself with rest.

Take care.

As you are aware, many here are concerned about you.

Thank you Axel;  here in WA today there were around 634 people that went down with Covid 19 so we shall just have to wait and see the outcome of the tests taken today, as my husbands doctor said everyone will go down with this virus.

It just depends how healthy the body is and if the body has been vaccinated.

Look at the Queen here she is 95 and she has a mild case of it so we are told.

Charles has had it twice and he is in his 70s too.

I have noticed that the WA shops have yet to get stocked up with food stuffs yet, I guess as soon as it is put on the shelves they goodies are being purchased.

But we are no where near as bad as Ukraine is coping with.

I do wish them well and hope everything works out for them soon.

Our Covid 19 results came back negative this morning, the results were sent through at 2.40am!

It woke me up with a flashing light, so these people are working all through the night to get the results out to the public, thank goodness.

Now we are waiting for grandson's class mates to see what results these kiddies are going to get  from his school.

Good news for you Celia, hope your grandson and his family are all OK.

Thanks RnR, we don't know yet.

His 1st Year glass was told to go home as one of the children tested positive with a RAT.

My implant sent off a message about three months ago that my heart had done something that was not expected!

I soon got a phone call from the surgeon's office!

I had taken a shower in hot water and then turned it to very cold, perhaps at my age and having had the stroke it was not a good idea!  I was having to hang onto the side and managed to get out of the shower as hubby could not hear me calling for help.

I ended up grabbing the basin and towel and ended up on my bed for two hours.

It certainly was a big fright;  the cardiologist said you will know not to do that again Celia!

How Bob Saget, 65, suffered fatal head injuries 'after blacking out in bathroom and bashing his head hard against marble floor, before coming round and stumbling into bed where he died'

Bob Saget 'hit his head against marble floor before collapsing in bed where he died'

Florida investigators say they now believe Bob Saget, 65, died after passing out in a hotel bathroom, falling and smashing the back of his head against the marble floor. It is suspected that the Full House star came to and managed to get to the bed, where he blacked out again and ultimately succumbed to a brain bleed. Cops initially claimed that Saget hit his head against the headboard, but experts said his injuries were severe enough to have resulted from being bashed with a baseball bat.

It certainly was a big fright;  the cardiologist said you will know not to do that again Celia!

Very scary Celia, so glad you managed to get out of the shower safely. Poor Bob Saget.

I agree RnR, it was a wake up call not to do that again!

This is the only reason I am putting this up, so others can learn from my errors.

Well what a week it has been for all of us here not to mention those poor soles in Ekraine.

Husband is now off to have his MRI scan and Tiffany our family cat is snoozing after her busy week;  since last weekend when she became sick and acting strangely;  our local vet could not fit her in as they were too crowded on Sunday morning.

So we found an emergency vet some way away, much to her disgust I had to put her in the carrier and taken her off to a stranger.

It has turned out to be something I didn't think of.

The colon was totally blocked. Since we got her as a six month old and was handed over to us from the rescue, she has been making what we all thought was a communication meow.   We were warned by the woman that handed her over to me as she could not work out what was going on.   It was around the time she was going to her kitty litter so I thought she was telling us to empty it.  The Rescue could  not work it out and they thought it was just one of those things this cat did.

Well after her colon has been emptied she doesn't do that anymore.

As a kitten she was given dry food, and free to take what she wanted when she wanted.

Her sister also, her sister when she came here left the dry food and tucked into the wet food.   She became a very strong can but very skinny;  I have this out with the vet and they say cats are like people some like dry food some wet.

But nobody bothered to ask why one cat was very heavy and the other skinny as a rack.

Until this last weekend;  it appears that the colon was dehydrated and had not been cleaned out all these four years even though I brought it up at the vets!

Now $1500 later I have a cat that now only wants dry food, and the emergency vet says she has to have water with it!

Tiffany doesn't want water with her dry food!  So it has been an ongoing issue trying to get her to eat what the vet wants her to eat.   I even boiled up two chicken tenderloins for madame and put the dry food in with the liquid from that. No luck she left it.

So she is back with the dry food mixed up with wet food, but she doesn't eat much of that so she is not the heavy had that I have known.

This is a warning for those that have kittens and let them graze at their will;  I don't believe that should have been allowed.

In future the menu for Tiffany will be a mixture of wet and dry food for two hours in the morning and in the evening. I will take the food away and what she doesn't eat she misses out.
