Hash brown potatoes

Does anyone have a good recipe for "hash browns"? I have tried recipes from a couple of different books but they just dont seem to come out for me. My attempts have been stringy, cooked (or overcooked) on the outside, but still "crunchy"in the middle. Maybe I am just doing something wrong? ........ is there a secret to success?

Thanks for the response clay but if I were into taking the easy way out, I might have done myself in years ago..... :-)

kfc, I dont have the recipe you want but a few years ago I was in Buffalo, New York, and went for brekkie at a roadhouse opposite the hotel I was staying at and had hash browns.

They were fantastic.

Nothing like what we get at our supermarkets.

It was a mix of mashed spuds plus other vegies plus minced corn beef.

I asked about it later to friends over there and was told the ingredients are up to the cook.

In other words, add things to make the taste better and use your imagination.

Have you Googled it --I have never made them myself

One potato per person.



Wash your potatoes well.

Don’t bother peeling them just grate them into a bowl.

Add Salt and pepper and a dessert spoonful of plain flour per spud.

Mix well and get some oil hot in fry pan.

Spoon in about four serves of mixture per average size pan or simply cook on your BBQ plate.

Turn the heat low now to allow the HB to cook through.

Invert the HB to brown the flip side.



For a change you could chop in some Onion/ Chili/ Herbs/ Nutmeg.



The secret is to keep them fairly thin and cook for about 10-15 mins each.

NEVER have I seen or read such violence as in this Room

All because kfchugo wanted to know how to make hash browns.

The secret is Kfc after you have grated the spuds you must

squeeze them and get as much water out of them as possible.

The more juice you can get out of them the better they will cook.

Maybe this hint will be an end to all the violence.
