Gout

Gout is a common form of arthritis.
A gout attack is sudden and painful. Gout is caused by a build-up of a waste product, uric acid, in the bloodstream. Excess uric acid settles in joints causing inflammation, pain and swelling.

In March this year I had a bad attack of gout in a toe.
After a while uric acid came out of the toe and formed crystals on the surface of the toe.
My doctor gave me some medication to relieve the gout but it had such side affects that I could not continue with it.
I have not been able to wear shoes since March as anything touching the toe is very painful.
Also I have been on anti-biotics as it got infected and has now formed an ulcer.
I have been prescribed pain killers such as Endone and Codalgin Forte (Paracetamol/Codeine) but I am reluctant to take too many of these as they have caused constipation and are addictive.

I am on pills to lower the uric acid level in my blood and these have worked as the level is now normal also I have been visiting a dietitian (even though my weight is normal for my height) to get a diet free of purines which can affect the uric acid level.

I have also had surgery on the toe to remove the crystals which I might add was damn painful.
I have been told by a podiatrist that it may be months before my toe returns to normal.

I am writing this to see if any other members suffer from gout or in this case chronic gout.
I would be interested to hear how you coped.

fwed, if you had respect for the better hings in life, you would drink Wild

Turkey with frozen water. It wont cure the gout but it wont hurt as much.

Thanks innes, sounds like a good idea to me.

Never mind Wild Turkey Innes. You do not need alcohol. ;-)

Go to Coles and buy Aussie. made yes Aussie made

Hi ho hi ho it's off to shop to mo ro.

On such a high with nothing, how high will we be when our

Kakadoo Juice arrives?

Phyl.

Kakadu Juice, Herbal-Active and Manuka honey

A little like the holy trinity of nutrition, well being and health, the combination of Kakadu Juice™, Herbal-Active™ and Manuka honey could just be the cure-all for diseases in and outside the body.

I strongly recommend daily intake of Kakadu Juice™ at least twice a day and a recommended dose of just 30 -50ml in total. This provides the essential phytonutrients such as antioxidants, anti-inflammatories and DNA repair compounds which have either been bred out of our regular foods or disappear during processing.

We are getting an ever-increasing number of testimonials from people taking Kakadu Juice™ regularly who are saying that they are off medication for a wide range of diseases. These include diabetes, hypertension,

arthritis >>>>>>(particularly gout)

Where are you going to get 1 kg manuka honey ?

That is a lot.

My daughter's partner is a bee keeper in NZ and when she visted me a month or so back she bought over 4 containers of top grade manuka honey.

Manuka honey has a rating system , 10 is good, 20 is excellent, but it is expensive to buy.

And yes bacteria have a problem living in manuka honey.

Honey is the only food item I know of that does not have a use by date.

Hey fwed, I just got some disturbing news. An older friend who, like myself, has suffered with gout over many years had a severe bout of kidney stones - he required several procedures to remove stones from his kidneys and bladder. He is still screaming and yodelling when he takes a "tinkle".

The bad news was a dire warning from his urologist about allopurinol which many of us take to flush out uric acid from our system. It seems that this drug (while doing its job well) does terrible things to our kidneys over time and is a major cause of "stones". I will be having a serious chat with my GP to seek an alternative....... I have no wish to discover "gravel in my guts" later in life.

Just thought I would share this with fellow sufferers.

kfc , I take probenecid which helps the body pass uric acid out through the urine, which lowers the levels of uric acid in the body.

The important thing is to drink plenty of water to prevent kidney stones while taking probenecid.

Maybe that could also apply to Allopurinol - I dont know.

I have not been on Allopurinol but I guess like most drugs it has side effects.

My problem at the moment ,because I cannot wear shoes and because of the extremely wet weather, is infection.

Last friday the podiatrist scraped the crystals from my toe which left an infected cavity.

I have had a swab taken and will find the results today.

Good to know--I don't have it myself but I do have a friend that gets it on the odd occasion--Thanks

Sorry to hear of your continued discomfort, fwed........ it must be painful. The "ageing process" doesn't have much going for it......does it?

How's the toe Fwed?

Any better?

Want a small glass of Kakadoo Juice?

Well it is $70 a litre I cannot afford for you to glug it down

you know.

Hope your foot is capable of going into a shoe now as it is

a bit embarrassing

walking with you down the main street with your bare feet.

Cut those nails..

    funny stuff.

Still cannot wear shoes Phyl but have taken up bike riding although there is a slight problem with a flat tyre.

seth had some curse put on the tyre so if anyone stole the bike the tyre would go flat.

The only thing wrong with that is I didn't steal it.

I just took it.

fwed, notice how considerate Phyl is today?

could it be that tomorrow is 'Sunday" :red:

Sorry I couldn't visit you in jail, but was told,

you were in solitary for starting a fight with a

tax evader by the name of 'Zapot.'

which no doubt is an alias.

fwed what relief it is to know that you only took my bike

and never stole it, I would like it returned as I have a

cheap concreting job in W.A. for cash, it is excellent

being so far from my residence, in case of a complaint. :coolcheese:
