gotta love migrants

My pension payment is around $120 a fortnight, I am subsidised by my migrant wife who is not yet an Australian citizen. She has never taken one cent from Australian tax payers. And had to pay $6000 to the government to come here, Gotta love migrants.

johnboy you would both the worse of the dole and you on the full pension. Financially it would be a disaster, talk about having your head in the sand. If you posted your original comment so that people will feel sorry for you, well bad luck. We all make decisions good and bad, but we have to wear them mate and as I said, you would get jack shit in her Country, and you know it. She has pride, but you don't seem too.

My wife and I are on a full pension of $944.30 a fortnight and we don't go without, enjoy holidays, live within our means, and have a good life, and still manage to save. Stop complaining Johnboy, if you need more money simple you get a job too.

My sister rents a small flat for about $275 a week, She gets about $1000 a fortnight on full pension. She is left with around $500 to live on for the fortnight and does it OK. She drives an small, old car shopping and has it insured and registered. She manages to pay all the bills and keep a small dog for company. I might add elecricity bills up here in the north are the highest in OZ.

You maybe need some lessons on money handling.

johnboy,  She is keeping you because she is desperate to stay in this country. Work still exists when you are willing to work hard for little. Work together so that she can stay for good.

Only thing I would say about this,is we Oldies know how to manage our money better than younger people, and pull our belts in when need be.I do object to the fact that 2 singles living together in a Defacto Relationship ( and I know a few ) draw 2 single Pensions, MUCH more than a legally married couple. My Wife came to Australia at great exspense to us several years ago, from a Country which would have offered her nothing in the way of Social security benefits, which since become an Australian Citizen she now enjoys.Count your Blessings Johnboy.

Not much detail on why you only recieve $120 a fortnight so not much sympathy her old son. Still if your part pension is low then your assets or income must be high. Don't really know what you are asking for with your post.

It's because his wife earns app $62k PA from her 2 jobs.

I think JohnBoy has 'left the building'.  And maybe that was his point, just checking to see what kind of answers he would get, which lived up (or down depending on your views) to his expectations by the look of things.  LOL.

I'm another who has always thought it a little unfair that two people living together can get two single pensions, no matter what their relationship is, defacto, same sex or even just siblings.  It's all the same household.

Legally married couples, or de facto for that matter, (some of us do declare ourselves in a partnership) are still treated as individuals by Centrelink when it comes to reporting.  The only difference is that we have to declare our partner's financial situation as well as our own - both of us, separately.  It's a PITA, especially when one half is still working even if it is only part-time.

The pensions are even paid out individually, we just get a lesser amount.   It sort of feels like we are being discriminated against for being honest.  I, like no doubt others on here, know of quite a few 'couples' who claim to be singles.  That's where you went wrong JohnBoy, you are too honest.  :)  Me too.

Maybe it's time to just pay out single pensions to everyone who qualifies no matter what their 'relationship' might be.

There was no couple rate of pension from 1909 to 1961, just one rate paid to all persons who qualified. There was then a split to a lower partnered rate recognising that two persons sharing the same accommodation enjoyed some benefits and the costs were not double that of one person; for example, rates and the cost of utilities could be shared.

The thing is johnboy when you get married you become a single unit and the assets of one become the assets of both. If you are getting a part pension it is because your assets are higher than that allowed for a full pension. Complaining about it is not going to change anything. Complaining your wife works two jobs is not going to win you many friends either. What about YOU working part time and letting your wife work less? What if your wife stops working one of the jobs? There are options for you both but it is clear you want to have more from the Government. As you have discovered, an age pension is NOT a right and not everyone who pays tax, or is an Australian citizen gets one. And one more thing there is a work requirement of 35 years in order to obtain a full pension. If your wife does not meet that requirement it is unlikely she will be able to apply for a full pension either. If she were to be assessed at all, she is more likely to get xx/35 of the full pension. That's just as it is.

Perhaps you need to sit down with your wife and make some decisions about your future together and whether Australia is the best place for you once she stops working. Maybe you might be financially better off in her country.

Not correct for full or Part Pension KSS, the  35 year rule is only for receiving pension and living overseas. His wife neds to be here 10 years, 5 consecutive, less if from a country we have an agreement with.

45er,hope you are not claiming for yourself and wife as a couple  because the $944.30 rate that you quoted is for a single person, married couple are $711.80 each, which is fair rate downsize!!!

Costs the same to put the light on, however many are sitting in the room!

What have you people done to johnboy, poor chap is in a state outside, the only words I can make out are

Lucca - You really show to others what a nasty person you are. We all know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

“Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but the highest form of intelligence,” wrote that connoisseur of wit, Oscar Wilde.

There is also a name for women who jump on a bandwagon..anyway..it is not at all complimentary so I won't mention it here.

Miss  Buttinsky is back again to defend her only friend. I have never heard you say anything nice to others on this site. You jump in to give your "personal opinion" even when notbody asks for it. Just butt out. The name for " women who jump on the bandwagon" must describe you.  I'm too much of a lady to say it.

Hilarious..I love my new name so much, it is now official, thank you! But you are no lady Hola, so don't even go there!

I guess I leave myself open now to being called Miss Butt and other abbreviations...but that is fine by me.

My sense of humour allows for it!

Sorted out your problems yet johnboy?

Well Lucca you see it looks like you are the one with the problem, No one likes you very much and i dont really think people care much about what you have to say .  But i will try and put my point across one more time.  I was just trying to point out ( not very well though) that i dont agree with the way my pensionis reduced just because i have a younger working wife. I dont think its fair. and i am aloud to have that opinion .  And Mcdaddy my wife earns nothing like $65.K a year at all.and i never said she did.  And to the thinker well think again  My wife is here because she loves me ,she was doing very well in another country, not hers though. But she chose to come here to be with me.   So lets start again... forget that she is a migrant. this happens to any Australian that hes a younger working wife if he is on the aged pension,  By the way i can't work because of very poor health and i am 69 years old.   Not every one has a big fat super, mine was small and has now all gone.   So what ever my wife earns over $300 a fortnight my pension is reduced by 25 c in the dollar. It puts me on a very low payment, we are classed as a coupple and should share  so they say, how can i share when i dont get any money, she has to pay for every thing.  Put your self in that situation and think haw you wood feal about that.  I know nothing will ever be done about it because neither party want to change it,  But its wrong.and it puts the coupple in hardship  even though one is working two jobs broken shifts  so there you are go to town on me now and start ripping me apart.  i know some of you will .cheers.

"Well Lucca you see it looks like you are the one with the problem, No one likes you very much and i dont really think people care much about what you have to say"

Well, johnboy…there are approximately 25M people in Australia. There are over 8M in NSW..I firmly believe Lucca will lose no sleep over a handful of blockheads on this forum who have nothing better to do with their time than to exercise their fingers with ignorant comments.

You keep whining about what you receive from the Government:

The Aged Pension includes the base rate, the pension supplement and the clean energy supplement. There are automatic increases which are the envy of less-fortunate Australians on Newstart, Youth Allowance, Austudy and many on wages. To blind Freddy, the pension is generous.

In my personal opinion, the people who should benefit from pension increases are those who are paying a rent, have high medical bills and people with disabilities. Why should someone with abilities and means be complaining?

Johnboy made his own bed and now he is whinging and whining about having to lie in it. Before he got married he was (and still is) a home owner with a generous pension. Then he got married and his pension is greatly reduced. What is so difficult to understand about that? The rules regarding pensions are clear and if you are not capable of understanding them, ask Centrelink, obviously he did not. Not do the deed and hope for the best. You were given a brain...use it!

So what do you hope to achieve johnboy by your caterwauling? If your health is so poor, why did you put yourself in the position you are in now? Why should the government give you preferential treatment? You are very lucky to be getting anything at all. Be grateful. Sometimes the truth hurts, but the truth is the truth.

Ok johnboy, so this whole time you were just complaining about the rate of the Couple's Pension, fair enough. As for your wife's wages, I never said $65k, i said $62k because you said she earns about $2400/ftn before tax, which is $62400 PA. Like it or not, we have one of the most generous Age Pensions in the world, also you should be getting about $190/ftn if she earns $2400/ftn, more if she earns less.

Yes MCdaddy i did say $2400 my mistake. She earns ABOUT $2,000 then pays tax. so she clears around $1700.I get about 120 150 $ depending on what she gets.So lets say we get about 1800,1900 between us.and remember she is working hard for that.  its not the dole.and she pays tax Its about $450 a week each .  now that is not much in any ones eyes i dont think.  she is working paying tax her money should be hers and i should get the full married rate of pension.  thats my thinking anyway.  but thanks for your comment.    PS. sorry sopie and lucca, i dont realy give a sh..t what you both think.

Keep dreaming mate. Nobody is going to give you the full pension while your wife is working. Also your figures still don't add up, if she is getting $2000/ftn before tax, you should get a touch under $300/ftn Pension. Don't tell me you have some other money you haven't told us about mate. So you are getting net app $52k per year between you, which is alot more than  acouple on the full pension each,  maybe you start charging her board untill she shares her money with you.
