April Pension Rise - Single

Just wondering if you have got the letter from Centrelink. Got one today, which indicated that my single person pension would rise by about $7.70 per fortnight - for the CPI, from April 16th. That includes the Basic supplement. Guess they don't shop at the same supermarkets I do. My shopping bill has gone up and up, and I've bought less and less. Not to worry, I can still afford to lose another couple of kilo, but where do I go then?

Tessata I am not sure where you read any of us suggested $7.70 is a god sent???

It is not enough for any of us to run out in the street and celebrate that's for sure ")

Phyl - thanks for your enquiry - my dad is as well as can be expected at nearly 96 - he gives me a lot of trouble with his behaviour though. Have been doing the soundless scream into the pillow a lot lately. Not sure when I will get time off again as when I do something always happens and he is getting very frail; if only I could get him into care. Will probably go nuts before that happens; also am feeling very isolated now, thank goodness for the cats to talk to.

P.S. - yes, I suppose I have some exotic tastes, was brought up in a very multinational community and exposed to different cuisines - however I have a knack of making cheap feasts out of very little.

It cetainly is not easy for you Jacinta....Would be difficult but "you could get your Dad into care".

Do you think he would adjust? It is amazing actually how many who never wanted to change their lives do and are glad to be amongst people their own age and can chat about anything and no worries if it has all been said many times before. Your life would be much easier and you able to do what you want. You have things you want and need to do before you are not wanting to, as much also, and your Dad could still live many years and seems he would be able to cope with change.

It is very difficult. I am sure.

All the best

Phyl.
