Sweet peas.

Wow I don't think I have ever seen photos of it, amazing, cute photo of cub with pup too.

Read the addie and see how rare they are.

What an unusual creature, thanks Celia.

Wow he looks like a cross doesn't he?

Very much so Incognito!

While looking through the many photos I was pretty disgusted with the amount of big cats that had fallen to the hunters and their guns.

I have no pity for the hunters that get taken by the animals.

Husband was brought up in Africa and he has often mentioned how cunning the Leopard is, he will double back and get behind a man on the hunt!

Yes hunters are so selfish, it is not like they are hunting for food either, just for their own bragging rights, which I think they should not have that right they should be put in prison.

Such a magnificent creature.

As for hunters in this day and age ... LOATHE THEM.

I feel the same way about hunting -- and am disgusted by it -- and that   Glenn McGrath what a magot he is  IMO -- paid heaps to go and kill all these animals -- and wanted people to donate for his wife's cancer

The top photo looks photo shopped (edited), but amazing photos still.

That is what I think too, but some years ago we watched a documentary on this happening with goats in the mountains being hunted by the Leopards, also the Eagle, they have learnt to throw the goats off the mountain so the fall kills them!  They then don't have to chase them to kill them.

Maybe one goat but the one riding the bigger one looks like it is place there by photo editing.

Snow Leopards — just beautiful IMO.

What is the difference between an African Lion and an Asiatic Lion?

The African Lion (Panthera leo leo) and the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) are both predatory mammals.

The African Lion is native to sub-Saharan Africa and the Asiatic Lion is native only to the Gir Forest in Gujarat in India.

The African Lion is bigger and heavier than the Asiatic Lion.

Difference between Asiatic and African lion | PoC

The African Lion has a smooth, tight belly, whereas the Asiatic Lion has a belly fold (a flap of skin that runs along its belly).

The male African Lion has a large mane of hair around its head, whereas the male Asiatic Lion has a smaller, shaggier mane.

The African Lion has a smaller tuft of hair at the end of its tail than the Asiatic Lion.

Extinct Barbary Lions: Largest Lion Subspecies

The Barbary Lion (Panthera Leo Leo ) is the biggest lion of them all. genetically separated from its subsaharian cousin. It is now extinct in the wild .It used to roam mainly from Tunisia to Morocco.

The Barbary lion (Panthera leo leo), also known as the Atlas lion, was an African lion population native to North Africa, including the Atlas Mountains, that is now considered extinct in the wild. Pease referred to the Barbary lion as the North African lion, and accounted that the population has been diminished since the mid-19th century following the introduction of firearms and bounties for shooting them. The last recorded shooting of a wild Barbary lion took place in Morocco in 1942 near Tizi n'Tichka. Small groups of Barbary lions may have survived in Algeria until the early 1960s and in Morocco until the mid-1960s.

Interesting never heard of the Barbary lion.

I am surprised Incognito.

I am also surprised the largest of the Lion species was the first to become extinct. I guess they could not move as quickly as their smaller relations. Very sad, now we find the rest of the lions are becoming fewer as the years roll on.

Once again I was disgusted at the photos of the trophy hunters, not only that the photo of the parts that have been butchered as if the killing of the lion is not bad enough to view.

I sometimes of late have been thinking the Coronavirus 19 is mother natures way of  humans to find their roots and to go back to our homes and not travel the world.  This virus cruel as it has been has made the planet cleaner in more ways than one I feel.  If people stayed in their own countries there would be less violence and wars don't you feel?

Well we can already see how animals are benefiting from less humans trampling the planet but realistically I don't think it is staying in your own country that will stop wars or violence especially. But I get what you are saying, though too many people are having to leave their own countries when they don't even want to but are forced because of war, famine and lack of jobs and poverty. Getting off track here for this topic, wonder how the animals will cope when humans get back to travelling.

A sad end.

The Barbary lion was a population in North Africa that is regionally extinct today. This population occurred in Barbary Coastal regions of Maghreb from the Atlas Mountains to Egypt and was eradicated following the spreading of firearms and bounties for shooting lions. A comprehensive review of hunting and sighting records revealed that small groups of lions may have survived in Algeria until the early 1960s, and in Morocco until the mid-1960s.

I had to laugh at that photo with the expression on the males face!

I think she is a lot older than him and if he doesn't look out he will receive a swipe of the paw if he doesn't watch it!

A lot of lionesses do rule the roost in some prides and even fight off the odd male that wants to take over their Pride when their guys are off checking their territories.

These are  sad & amazing Lion true stories.

That is so shocking about the tailess ones, amazing how they can do this to save themselves and how they use their instincts to know they must do it.

I found it amazing that both mother and daughter lost their tail, then went to hunt in the territory of other lions!  Bringing up cubs too and protecting and hiding them from the other lions. Truly amazing.

Prince Harry 'sells his $100,000 hunting rifles and gives up blood sports to please wife Meghan Markle' Prince Harry sells £50,000 hunting rifles as Dr Jane Goodall says 'Meghan doesn't like

Prince Harry sold a pair of hunting rifles before leaving the UK for North America, it has been revealed. The news comes after Jane Goodall revealed Harry, who has hunted buffalo, could stop shooting animals as 'Meghan doesn't like hunting.' Harry has been absent from recent shoots at Balmoral and Sandringham, while Buckingham Palace was forced to dismiss rumours that Meghan had banned him from taking part in a Boxing Day shoot in December 2018.

Good on him, I would think he made his own decisions but she gave him the courage to go against royal "traditions", which I think it is about time they stop hunting traditions, crazy that they still do this.

Its too bad he sold the rifles

What so that someone else can hunt with them ???

He should have destroyed them.

Totally over Meghan/Harry stories now,

CARETAKERS COMFORT ORPHAN BABY ZEBRA BY WEARING STRIPED COAT TO LOOK LIKE HIS MOTHER

An orphaned baby zebra is being raised by conservation caretakers, who wear special striped coats when they feed and groom him in order to resemble his mother.

Sadly, a group of goat herdsmen in Nairobi witnessed the baby zebra’s mother being chased down and killed by a pride of lions, and the baby fled to the nearest safe place — the herd of goats. The kind herders fed the foal goat’s milk, and he was eventually taken to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s (SWT) Voi Reintegration Unit.

Named Diria after the ranch where he was rescued, the foal is being given the constant attention he needs in order to survive. Diria is “incredibly affectionate” and loves nuzzling into his caretakers while they groom him.

The tailor-made coat is being worn by all of the conservation’s workers, so that Diria can imprint — a process where young animals come to recognize someone as their parent — just as he would in nature, without becoming overly attached to any one individual. The trust says it has successfully used this technique with other rescued zebras, who have gone on to live in the wild.

The love and care that these workers are providing for little Diria is a great testament to how animals and humans can share truly special bonds.

What a couple of sweet hearts, I hope the foal likes his new mum!

I wonder if animals have nightmares?  Imagine all the animals taken by big cats and the rest of the herd sees this.

Have watched a few 'whodunnits' which featured those watching/filming barn owls with dire consequences LOL.

:) Wonderful bird BTW.

When we lived in Yorkshire 5 miles outside the city of York, each evening we would hear the call of a local Owl, also much to my late aunts surprise the singing of a Thrush.  These sounds are getting rare these days sadly.

Love owls, was amazed one land in a tree in the back yard once, but was not quick enough to get a camera before it flew away.
