As seen on the Dr. Oz. show with the founder
Doctor Li.

1. Artichokes

2. Bok Choy (Chinese cabbage)

3. Flounder - Cooked

4. Strawberries.

5. Tomatoes cooked (best with a bit of Olive Oil)

If you ever come to Tas Phyl , Will take you to all my Italian ladies places food you would not believe yum,These toms you can throw in almost everything adds lovely flavour to rice dishes as well. You can also get olives in the same jars and use exactly the same get the pitted black kalamarta ones though. They also have artichokes in the same jars but try a small jar first to see if you like them before buying a large jar as some dont like them ,most Italians love artichokes and use them in sauces ,and salads, good luck with your wog food , I will be very surprised if you dont love it.Wobbly

I buy dried tomatoes regularly but find the oil a nuisance to pat off with kitchen paper. Also, I am not always so sure it is solely olive oil. Still, wobbly's idea of using the residual oil for cooking is a good one.

A Sunbeam DT5600 dehydrator costs under $100 and I'd be interested if anyone uses one.

Unfortunately the racks cannot be cleaned in a dishwasher.

For anyone interested in making beef jerky, it is possible to make it in a standard oven with the door propped open a bit to aid ventilation. However, it needs to be brought to a hot temperature first to ensure bacteria kill. There are many recipes on the Net. Not for those on a low salt diet.

I bought a dehydrater at a garage sale for $30 in a moment of madness ,it was a great buy as it was in new condition with about 8 trays and 4 wrap sheets and even had the instruction book. In reality I do not have time to do these things anymore as I seem to have less time every day to do just the things I have to do. I find with good acsess to markets and a freezer I have everything I need without actually drying and storing foods.I gave the dehydrater to one of my daughters who grows all her own produce but as she works full time have never seen her actually use it either. I find there are not enough hours in the day to do all that I used to do ,maybe I am just less organised. Wobbly

Its a shame that wobbly's time constraints are probably common to most of us. I love fishing, but hardly ever get time....... there are so many things we could do to maintain old skills or grow/cook/preserve foods to save ourselves some money. Who ever repairs appliances or mends clothes these days....... and we are losing these skills. I remember years ago when my daughter came to me bursting with pride as she had cooked a cake "from scratch". To her, "scratch" was a box of Betty Sidney cake mix.

Who now knows how to make something as simple as custard....... we reach for a packet, or worse, buy it pre-prepared. ....... It all comes down to time, we just dont have enough. :shut:

It is great fun to see you all "going off topic" as I am the one

gets into SO much trouble because I did it once

o.k. well maybe twice ;-)

Any post I start everyone please feel free to chat amongst

yourselves as in my humble opinion chatting is the reason

we have forums.

Bought all variety of goodies supposed to prevent bad things

happening today. Oh life is just SO much fun.

...

btw kfc can I make custard? absolutely can, and it is delicious.

When you and your wife come visit I will make it and what with it?

Sticky date Pud. or trifle? or name it and we can have it.

Foods to prevent cancer that I have heard of are Pommegranit juice and beetroot juice both of these I drink every day not together of course . I juice raw beetroot silver beet carrot red capsicum a can of chopped raw tomato A couple of cloves of garlic {natural antibiotic} and a knob of ginger about a heaped teaspoon, I usualy add a couple of apples or pears to this juice to dilute the garlic taste and add a bit of sweetness. My jug makes about 1 litre and I drink at least a glass every day. On the third day I discard any left usualy very little and make a fresh lot. I was putting a lot more fruit in but found my weight going thru the roof due to the sugars in the fruit so now just enough to make it pleasant to drink. You have to experiment with the amount of ginger as it does have a warm kick, like a strong ginger beer.Once you have made your own you never want to drink commercial juices again, and it is nice to try get purely organic things to put in if possible. I was told to eat in season, in other words what nature provides at that time pig out on ,and avoid foods that man has interfered with as much as possible I was also told look for strongly coloured foods ie carrots spinach silverbeet beetroots oranges rockmelons blueberries grapes pumpkin. I also drink a glass of pommegranit juice daily ,this was recommended by a naturopath , It is about $25 .00 a litre at health food shops so quite hexy but at the naturopathic pharmacy that I go to ,I get a 4x concentrate for$28.00 a litre bottle and as you use like a cordial and dilute to taste it last a long time. Well as I have bored you all now by staying on topic I will go now. Stay well.wobbly

Interesting read there Wobbly, I don't drink too many bought juices as I worry as to where the ingredients come from, that's just me. Hubby and the kids drink a lot of Orange Juice and Cranberry Juice, me, I just drink water or have a cup of tea.

Custard, yep I make my own, one of the family favourites, mostly used over plum pudding, I use to preserve my own fruits, don't do too much of that now as we don't have enough fruit at our disposal and it is too expensive to buy the fruit and then preserve it. I do make jam, one of my grandaughters loves my Quince jam, I love it too but the quinces are pretty scarce so I've saved the jars for her, there are some quince trees down on the farm but we never seem to be down there when the fruit is ready, might need to do something about that. Another family favourite seems to be my sponge cakes, not a cake eater myself but they like them.

I have never had or used a dehydrator I have a Vacola outfit which I use. Am I off topic here??????? I am so confused about what foods are good for cancers or what are bad. The only thing I have heard that has come down through the passage of time is that Selenium is good for cancer but one would have to know the right amount. My family is very susceptible to cancer so we have to keep a close eye on things.

We had a lovely few hours shopping today because the sun

is out albeit it was SO cold and almost a frost early.

..

So many things are supposed to cure or prevent cancer while

so many other things seem to cause cancer - and then

one day what was good or bad is not bad or good.

It all becomes very difficult hey.

..

I make custard beyond quick these days just for two

In a heat risistant glass jug I mix just a small amount

of custard powder (always Foster Clarkes) sorry Aldi :)

(never measure anything ) :red: with Carnation low fat

evaporated milk then boiling water and then a bit more Carnation

This is really great custard in a minute and can go over anything.

..

Whatever people feel is good for them they should eat I suppose

especially fruit and juices as you say Wobbly.

I have such a sweet tooth I could not really care less about other

food and could live on choc. and sweets of all kinds

and yes please will have some sponge cake

and cream thanks Deanna :) Oh and thick icing please.

Sponge cake, cream and thick Icing coming right back at you Phyl.............enjoy.......Cheers

I'm not usually a sweet eater, chocolate, well I can take it or leave it, although, I must admit at times I crave some chocky or something sweet, have my fill and then I'm OK. :) One of my weaknesses though is sweetened condensed milk, or powdered milk, but would you believe it my body is not acceptive of dairy products, I also loooooove cheese but have to be strong. :ohh:

psst Deanna and what about caramel condensed milk - heaven lol

(called Caramel Pie Filling) yum yum ever so nice :)

Will we grow up one day do you think? lol (hope not)

............

We received our Water bill and SEC bill today - I tell you

we need something sweet to take away our dour sour thoughts

It's crazy. $600 the two is crazy and the gas bill still to come :-S

.............

Waiting at the gate Deanna will you be long with the sponge?

Sun is out right now but looks like it will cloud over but I will wait.

.

Sponge cake, cream and thick Icing coming right back at you Phyl.............enjoy.......Cheers

I'd go along with that.

Sweetened condensed milk, or failing that full cream powdered milk, was one of the few delights available to kids 5+ decades ago (ouch, always shattering to realise how much time has passed).

My son has found he is lactose intolerant. He was quite fond of milk drinks too, a real poddy calf. It is surprising now he has quit dairy products how little it takes to cause stomach cramps etc.

Nautilus, I loved milk until I found I was lactose intolerant.

I found Paul's Zymil to be good as it is lactose free and tastes great.

I can drink it without any problems.

I don't know how widely it is distributed but you can check it out at http://www.zymil.com.au/

fwed,

Thank you and I will follow it up. Been using soy milk but it is not so good for some recipes.

Thanks for that fwed, sounds interesting, I haven't heard of it. I don't drink milk anymore, just have a little in a cup of tea, custard (occasionally) creamed rice (not enough times) but my bones are still nice and strong so must be getting my calcium from somewhere.

@Phyl, I've got a tin of it in the cupboard, yummy, will open it when I know we have nothing on the next day, I love it but it doesn't like me as the saying goes. How was the sponge Phyl??????? I was just thinking if you like thick icing I have lots left over from my daughters wedding cake that I made and iced, you should be closer !!!!!!!

@ Nautilus, I like to make the powdered milk into a paste, yummy now that is a weakness, along with the increasing The stomach cramps is interesting, fortunately I don't have that problem. Cheers
