Plan B

the river red gums got a good soaking ,but the water was to late for some they have died

Yes I saw that last time I was there very sad as they are a grand tree

Deanna the Swan river is beautiful as a kid I spent most of my childhood at the Claremont baths{now a private home I believe or walking along the banks,We used to start at Claremont baths and walk climb and swim in places our way along the river banks all the way to Freemantle. Then walk back along the beaches untill Swanbourne .then cut past the swamp, drained now and back through the showgrounds until we got home very sunburnt usualy,we normally took off real early and the only rule we had was we had to be home before dark. Can you imagine kids today having that kind of freedom,it realy is a miracle that we survived but we were bred tough in those days.Wobbly

I keep saying to anyone who will listen that it's a miracle that we all survived, I could say things were different back then but then I stop and think about Eric Cook (remember him, I'm sure you do living in Claremont) and others that were wondering around in those days, but we did have so much more freedom back then, however, I feel that a lot of the freedom has been taken away unnecessarily today with fear of what might happen along with the fear of litigation. I will admit that I didn't let my kids do the things I did when growing up and our grandkids are doing even less.

My eldest kids were raised in the N.T. so had a lot of freedom, they used to go swimming in a creek called Rapid Creek very close to our home in Moil. They went every weekend and had the usual swinging rope from trees and cubby houses etc, until one day a rather large croc made his presence known ............freaked me right out so creek was banned and we bought kids an above ground pool.A couple of years ago or maybe it was last year ,Im not sure a little girl was taken by a croc in that same swimming hole and that place now is in the middle of the suburbs today. My youngest was born almost 10 years later { an absolute joy} and thinks she was cheated as with her my protection modes went into overdrive . The older girls call her {the golden child} she was born in the territory but raised in Qld . Tassie still has some semblance of freedom for kids living out of the cities in country towns so my twins and their brother have done ok, but the little ones living in the city will never know that freedom that we had sadly.Wobbly.

CRADLE MOUNTAIN

This area is one of our hidden secrets! A two to three day visit to this area is a wonderful experience. The knees aren't what they used to be, however an easy walk around Dove Lake looking at the fabulous fauna & flora plus the wonderful views of the peaks of Cradle Mountain (which we climbed many years ago). At dusk the wallabies (and other wildlife) hop out to meet you. Add to this the Crater Falls and Crater Lake and you will forget city life completely for even a short time.

cavajo 01, firstly welcome to the forum, it's always good to have new members come in. Have never been to Cradle Mountain but is a place on our list to go and see WHEN we get over to the Eastern Seaboard, we have been over the rest of Aus except the Qld,NSW, VIC and Tassie. We will head over there one day and hopefully see it all, we have flown to the main cities except inTassie but not out in the countryside.

Deanna, ...we have been over the rest of Aus except God's Own Country, NSW, VIC and Tassie.,,,,

There, fixed that for you. :-)

The Dandenong ranges in Victoria ,Kallista,Belgrave, the forest is beautiful with the tree ferns and when I was a kid I would go and sit quiet in the forest and the Lyrebirds would come right up to you

Just a wee bit of bias showing there,Nautilus but yes Qld is very beautiful.I have been very lucky and have travelled most of this magnificent country, the only part I have not seen Is from Townsville north.I have my favourite places based mainly on memories .My husband was born in the Dolomites 1 hour north of Venice and missed his beloved mountains ,so he pushed cajoled and shoved me up every mountain track and walk in Australia and a fair few in Italy, amongst them Cradle mountain Which he truly loved .Dove Lake is realy beautiful and well worth the walk. When he was still with me we used to head out to the wilderness areas of Tassie ,at every opportunity .I am so glad we did those things before he died and that I have so many marvelous memoriesDeanna I hope that one day you post that you are coming to Tas ,that realy would be fun just choose a warmer time than right now as Its very cold today...........CavajoO1 ,welcome ,It is realy nice to meet you .Are you one of the people from the deep south[Tassie]and are you male or female not that it realy matters just curious,Wobbly :)

My husbands village was just 40 ks from Cortina, and I have been there several times It is truly beautiful, especialy in winter when it is snowing and the church bells are ringing .The sound echoes of the mountains just wonderful. So w as the mulled wines and hot rum punch. It is a part of their culture to dress up and walk and talk in the piazas with all their friends especialy on sundays .Did you ever buy hot chestnuts roasted over the coals in the piaza? The people from there including my husband were very proud of their tyrolean ancestry and I still have my fur coat from there and his hat. We used to take part in the passegata whenever we returned ,I went back about 4 years ago but it is not the same without your partner but thats life. My family still have a house over there and usualy one of us goes every year for a visit.Brighton is a nice part of Vic I had a friend that used to live there so I am a bit familiar with the area.We have been very fortunate that we have had some realy nice new people joining this site in the past few weeks ,It Is great getting to talk to new friends.I hope you keep posting and I will look forward to reading them ,Stay well.Wobbly
