You are never too old

Ninety-nine-year old Orville Rogers, right, runs down Dixon Hemphill to win the 60m USA masters indoors title.

Experience proved the key for 99-year-old Orville Rogers has he recorded a narrow 0.05-second victory over 92-year-old rival Dixon Hemphill in the US track and field masters recently.

The pair competed in a match race over 60m, which lit up social media, with Rogers finishing the race in 18 seconds, leaning further ahead at the line to edge Hemphill who completed the distance in 18.05 seconds.

Hemphill isn’t taking the loss lying down and has promised to step up his training in anticipation of a rematch.

"I just want to run faster than I'm running," Hemphill said. "My training is not complete. I'm not doing long distance running. I want to add at least two to three miles ... Orville Rogers is doing more mileage than me in a week. That's not right in my mind. I should be doing more. I think it'll make a difference."

Is this the attitude we can expect from Mundine and Green, years down the track?

Good genes and motivation make all the difference.

I have only admiration for older people who don't let age hold them back...take this 86 year old gymnast..

Image result for old woman does gymnastics

I'm very proud of myself too. I did five pushups this morning, then had to ask hubby to help me get up off the floor...lolol

haha, now Cranky, you know the old saying, "if you want to get to Carnegie Hall you have to keep practicing".

Now look at this 90 year old still pumping iron with the help of a diet of spinach and the occasional pint of Guinness LOL

Eating his greens: Mr van Walwyk, a vegetarian, says his strength comes from a diet of spinach and Guinness to get enough protein for his biceps

Reagan...If I had what he's having....I would need a permanent toilet strapped to my back...  :(

my stomach contents wouldn't even have time to wave at my kidneys before rushing past.....lol

haha Cranky, that guy must have eaten so much spinach, his stomach must be cast iron by now!

Not to mention his " pop eyes"...lol

Good on you for trying Cranky , at least you can do 4 more than I can.

Reagan - I'm disappointed, you never once encouraged me to eat Spinach and the occasional Guinness.

Didn't think you were the drinking type Hola, so no guinness, but you can start on the spinach at any time LOL

Hope you're not slacking off.

My biggest problem Hola, well almost ,if you don't count my rear end is my shoulder has a painful ripped tendon..The physio has advised me to do shoulder strengthening excersize and proceeded to do the hard sell of elasticated thingies at some phenomenal cost, that you tie to a door handle ...I just play tug'o'war with my maltipom's rope toy...and it it does the trick at $2.50 from the dollar shop...lol..

You're right Reagan, can't stand booze of any type. Spinach is great and I try and have steamed veges or salads every day. I am slacking off a bit, get fed up with all this cycling. I'ts like pedalling around Australia but no scenery. I'll get back into it full time, I suppose we all get into the doldrums occasionally.

I sympathise with you Cranky, that is so painful. I'm having the same problem, I was in a Bunnings store last week waiting to be served when a 6ft Aluminium ladder fell across my back and almost knocked me to the floor. Some men rushed to my assistance but the staff were a little slack. I asked to see the First Aid Officer and said a report should be filled out. Well this staff man came and took details, he wrote it on the smallest notebook, asked my name and address and what time it happened. Didn't ask for my phone number, thought they might call to see if I was Okay. I went to the Doctor for a check up as the back was painful. It is very hard to see my back and someone said I should have taken a photo of the bruising, has anybody tried to take a photo of their back? I don't feel like giving the letter from the doctor to them, nothing will eventuate from this. I have no faith in shops these days, no body seems to care.

Hola, follow this through, you have a doctor's report , witnesses and it's been reported..

many years ago I was Christmas shopping with my children and the counter assistant dropped a frozen chicken on my foot !

My Christmas was totally ruined. I persued the matter for weeks as no one wanted to know about a little housewife with two broken toes..in the finish I took matters into my own hands and muscled in on management, dragging my kids with me..He was absolutely lovely, and heard me out, ...three weeks later a huge freezer filled with frozen food and a box of chocolates arrived at my door..

The store was 'Jack the slasher" and the card enclosed was signed,"All the best ..Jack.

If a thing is worth doing it's worth doing well....:)

Cranky -  That is encourageing. I'll front up on Monday. I want to see the Manager because I never had the benifit of seeing someone in charge. I'll keep you posted.

I'll wave my little flag Hola,

For visual encouragement.. :)
