Would you live in a 10-minute city?

First proposed as a concept in 2016 by scientist Carlos Moreno as a "15-minute city", the idea behind a 10-minute city is to produce new-age lifestyle living without cars with a focus on day-to-day wellbeing.

So why 10-minute city you ask? The idea is that outside of work requirements, an individual would be able to access anything they ultimately require, within 10 minutes bike ride of their residence.

Company UNStudio has announced plans this week to transform an old industrial and railyard site in the northeast of Seoul, South Korea, into a 10-minute city. The project has been given the green light to commence and artist concepts can be viewed here.

What do you think about the idea of a 10-minute city? Does it make sense for the future of construction and our lifestyles?

Definitely NOT

I do like my garden.

How many residents will there be?. By the look of the design photo, there will be millions. Not for me!!

Suze's photo shows what those selling the project to a government want people to think. I recall being in Amsterdam and seeing the bicycles stacked against each other and wondered how do you find yours if you were first to arrive and first to leave.

Seriously, think about what happens with schools. As the city grows, more schools will need to be built to maintain the 10 minute bike ride concept. This also applies to supermarkets, medical services, hospitals, police stations and the list goes on.

It would be ok,  [I suppose] if you are under the age of 40 years of age, but personally no thank you very much.

Would anyone wish to have a ten minute bike ride in 40 degree heat?

That would be the outcome if it were in Australia, I guess the same with many other countries too.

No way for me -- have they changed the name now from    AGENDA 21/30???

That has been on the plan for decades

The further away from crowds and cities for me

Hi Plan B.

Good to see you up and about here!

Hope you are well?

Thank you, Celia,  hope you are feeling better now too??

Hell yeah, I can't stand cities it feels claustrophobic. I like open spaces, tress, garden and no traffic.and the only noise is the hum of bees and singing birds.

All bikes would have to have a beeper to know where yours is buried under all that lot.

Imagine to, not only a 10 minute bike ride in 40 degree heat, all those high rise, all that concrete, where's the trees??? Not enough there to compensate for the increase in heat. More CO2 levels with a million air cons going.

Yep Beems, I agree 10 mins in the city and all people with horses should leave. Too much manure to clean.
