Woolworths to stop selling reusable plastic bags in one state

Woolworths has begun the phasing out of reusable plastic bags in Western Australia ahead of the statewide ban that comes into effect in July.

Over 80 percent of customers in WA already bring their own bags to shop, but for the other 20 percent, they will be able to purchase paper shopping bags as the standard option. These paper bags can carry up to 6kg of groceries each and are made from 70 percent recycled paper.

“Over the next month, we’ll be gradually phasing out plastic shopping bags from our stores and online orders across WA, as we move to support the WA Government’s upcoming plastic bag ban,” Woolworths state general manager for WA Karl Weber said in a statement.

Do you bring your own bags every time you shop?

YES! Habitualised ????

I used to take my own cotton bags but now that I do shopping online I have to contend with the darn bags they send, which have been those tough use again plastic that takes years to break down, and get thrown out (returned) -- I still have to buy the bags for my tidy bin, and I buy the ones made of recyclable material, which are dearer, so why the dickens do they not give us the recyclable ones?  Maybe they make more money from selling them.

I didn't realise there were states that hadn't already banned single-use plastic bags. We banned them ages ago in SA.

I order from Woolworth's online and choose the option of getting paper bags. I recycle them or fill them with shredded paper. My Council asks that shredded paper is put in paper bags and stapled before recycling. I live in Victoria.

Great news! I've always loved groceries in paper bags and am glad we are now going to have them in WA.
