Woolworths to stop selling plastic bags

In a bid to be a bit more environmentally conscious, and to comply with a new state law coming into effect from July, Woolies has announced it will no longer be selling it's $0.15 plastic reusable bag.

Instead, those who forget to bring their own bag will be offered a Woolworths paper bag for $0.20. These bags will also be used to fulfil online orders. The green fabric reusable bags and the Bag For Good will still be available.

Woolworths says currently around 80 per cent of its customers already bring their own bags, and it hopes this move will be a reminder for the other 20 per cent.

The move in WA could be a precursor to the same happening in other states. Would you be happy if Woolworths phased out plastic bags altogether?

This is duplicated in the other Thread!

... and it ONLY APPLIES IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

Just in case people don't read it correctly.

However, it is coming to other states as governments start to enact further bans on plastic bags, so you have fair warning to prepare for it.  I think it is due to come into law in Victoria some time in 2023.

Just like Woolies

Anything to make a profit even if it is 5 cents on a paper bag .... looks as if people were re using the plastic bags and they were not selling enough of them.

What is wrong with recycling the plastic bags ??? once they've reached their end.

Why cut down trees to make paper bags ???

I've got a collection of Woolworths roll-up/foldable bags. Had them for a over 5 years now and they have been used to bits. So handy and fold up so well to fit in pocket or handbag. Very durable and strong. Haven't thrown any out over that time.

Agree, I love these bags.  Roll up small and so light to carry.

Always take one with me when I travel as you have to buy plastic bags in the UK and other countries.  They even charge for the small plastic fruit and veg bags.
