Why the big secret ?

Thanks to all who have helped me previously on the post "Pensioner Housing" My question is this,Why do Government Dept. feel the public dont know what they are talking about. Why the secrecy.
I tried all the avenues suggested to me ,& I am now back at square one.All the email contacts go to a central location & the answer is all the same,What are you talking about, we dont have waiting lists,we cant tell you anything about anything. If I wasnt a lady I would call it all bull effluent !!!
So now I am asking this, is there anyone out there, in Queensland, not too remote, who may have been allocated a Pensioner Unit in the last few months, & has some idea what the non existent Waiting List is, could they let me know.We are aged 70 & 76, we dont have that many years left,to wait 8-12yrs. someone must have some knowledge that isnt a secret. If we can find out, we can then apply in the right places,as it is, we are stumped.
Not all of us are financially troubled because of wasting our money,in the 1960s there were no such things as marriage settlements, compulsory superanuation, & financial advice. Marriage breakdown ,& business failure saw a lot of us in a bad way for retirement. We are lucky ,we have love & a sense of humour to help us cope, why cant someone help us just to spend our final years still smiling.

Elsie I live on the Fraser Coast area but dont know about Public housing ,just did a search for you

and found this on Qld housing site

Housing assistance is available to people on low-to-moderate incomes who meet the eligibility criteria.

To apply for housing assistance, please contact your nearest Department of Housing office to arrange an appointment to discuss your eligibility and housing needs. You may also complete an application form and send it to your nearest Department of Housing office. You will then be contacted to arrange an appointment to discuss your application

Do you know where your nearest housing office is??

If you don't know your nearest housing office, i found the website, hope this helps.

http://www.housing.qld.gov.au/contact/offices/index.htm

lol I have just found that page also. Hope you have some luck Elsie.

Thanks to you all,I have been there done that,& have been on the "list" for over 2 yrs. What I need to know & they wont tell me, is where are the best places to apply, there must be some places easier to get houses than others. Housing seem to have made it all a big secret !!Where I have applied at the moment I have a wait for 8-12 yrs.Thats unless I can prove I have a life threatening problem. They dont consider age to be one.

Salvation Army or Angli-Care often have accomodation.

I live in a Housing CoOperative and know for a fact emergency housing

comes before people on a waiting list.

I waited only one year and have a superb accomodation.

Thank you Mara, Can I ask you which area you live, or am I too nosy ? Sorry if I am.

Elsie, I am in Adelaide but know for

a fact that there's similar set-up interstate.
