Why all the secrecy Scott?

Here’s the thing about Scott Morrison giving himself all those jobs, if he was so sure he was doing the right thing, why did he do it in secret?

When you enter politics, there is an expectation that you will be subject to a certain level of public scrutiny, so it seems astonishing that he could place himself in a position that could effectively take over the government and not tell the Australian people.

He claims it was just in case people were incapacitated due to the COVID crisis, but since his government dragged its feet in every other responsibility in regard to the pandemic it seems this flurry of activity was out of character.

Poor old Shifty ScoMo. In the report into his multiple ministries it was recorded he did nothing strictly illegal , but Government is, or should be, about more than the law. Australians have the right to know who has the power to make high, level decisions. Morrison's secrecy denied us those rights. He even hood-winked the G.G. David Hurley into believing it was okay to keep it quiet. Every time the G.G. had an appointment it was recorded in his journal except the meetings with ScoMo, I wonder why.?

It's obvious, HOLA, that you don't know that a Governor General has to carry out the requests of the current Prime Minister, providing the requests are legal. Labor wants a republic and smearing the Governor General can only add strength to their ambitions.

This probably highlights Morrison's character as a control freak who needs to gather power to himself. I doubt if he intended to become so powerful that he effectively became a dictator altho' his religious beliefs may have influenced him into thinking that he was something of a Messiah leading Australia down the path that he wanted to take it.

He certainly had control of the Liberal party as evidenced by those who rushed to defend him and his actions. Fortunately their are some who expressed their serious reservations on his actions.

All in all we should be grateful that his days of power are over.

Clearly, this site has not identified a new whipping boy since the outcome of the last election was known.

Mr Morrison has been cleared of any illegal activity; no-one was harmed or injured by his actions, no-one was disadvantaged and nothing happened. So what exactly is all the hyperventilation all about?

Mr Albanese needs to stop beying for blood, act like a Prime Minister and not a churlish schoolboy, pull the woke left into line, implement his pre-election promise of a kinder more respectful government and get to work on the real problems facing Australia instead of spending even more money on yet another report on an issue that is over and of no concern.

Albanese is doing fine as PM and is increasing in popularity in every poll.

Morrison on the other hand is lower than a snakes belly, so low that even Abbott will not defend his behaviour.

And unless you are in the Cook electorate (who reinstalled Mr Morrison as their representative) it should make absolutely no difference to you. Mr Morrison no longer holds any portfolio and is simply a backbencher representing his constituents who reinstalled him with over 55% of the vote (p.s. Labor only managed 25%). Move on.

Scomo worked his guts out keeping us safe , cancelling the chinese covid flights whilst albo and the Greens called him racist. He stopped the obsolete diesel subs whilst Albo  unbelievably supported the French then promoted Macrons lies that he was blindsided when in fact Scomo desperatly tried to negotiate with Macron. The rest of the world is building modern efficient coal power stations using our coal but we are not allowed to. For a country with hundreds of years of fuel to run out of energy is criminal but Albo is fixated on unsustainable expensive green energy and Chalmers does nothing but blame Scomo for the energy crisis when in fact it was Labor and the Greens that stopped  coal and gas projects. Now we have runaway inflation caused by our energy crisis, and thousands facing mortgage stress. You get what you vote for,

Something nobody has mentioned is that Mr Morrison's actions have set a precedent.  Who's to say some another PM with less benign intentions were to do the same thing in the future.  He can use the former PM's actions as a justification.  The 1975 constitutional crisis was kicked off by a politician ignoring a political convention.  The convention was when an MP dies in office and has only a short amount of his term left, another representative from the same political party is appointed by the government to complete his term of office.  The Queensland government ignored this convention and appointed someone from another political party albeit not their own.  This changed the balance of power in Parliament.  It certainly wasn't the only factor in the crisis but the flow on effects were enormous.  When politicians act in a self-serving manner they damage our democracy. They had to pass a law to enshrine this political convention and we are now going to have to pass a law to enshrine one portfolio - one minister.  Ignoring all of the above in a real emergency, if the government had been crippled by COVID, he could have appointed himself on an interim basis, but not kept it secret.  In fact the previous government seemed to like secrecy, we had secret trials, secret ministers.  What other secrets do they have?

That is not so Poppy... Albanese is ensuring Morrison's actions cannot be repeated in the future and that signing in of portfolios must be made public.

No, Sophie, Albanese is not  ensuring Morrison's actions cannot be repeated in the future, he is merely ensuring that if it happens again that the parliament must be advised. The legality of what Morrison did is covered in our Constitution and it will take a referendum to change that, not Albanese.

Now that Albanese has gained the upper hand...it is my opinion he should stop being such an old woman and get on with the job.

He undertook to run a country...get on with it!

is Australian politics creeping into Dictatorship by actions like this.

All that Albanese is doing is acting like a jilted lover seeking revenge. Morrison did nothing illegal so why have an enquiry on a backbencher? All that needs to be done is to legislate that all people sworn is a a minister must have that action advised to the Speaker. Whilst talking of revenge, RoboDebt was cancelled in 2019 when it was found to be illegal and monies refunded but Albanese is going to have yet another enquiry into who did what and when. This is a time when we need a leader to fix real problems and enact policies promised. To those who drive, have you ever thought why the rear view mirror is so small and the windscreen so big? It's because it's what is in front of us that is important, not what is behind us. Labor should take note and just get on with the job for which they have been elected.

All those picking on Scotty, you should be glad we have such am imaginative former PM. Willing to take on jobs above and beyond what is required of him. Well done Scott!
