What's your take on the Barnaby Joyce saga?

Is it in the Australian public's best interest to learn more about Barnaby Joyce's private life, or is it just interesting for the Australian public?

PlanB, do you have a glass eye? If you dont I suggest you open both eyes. Politicians are NOT employed by us, they are ELECTED by us!

But then, as it appears you lean to the extreme left of pink politically, unless an alleged wrong doer is a Green or Labor politician they must be pillored by the likes of you.

Have you never heard the saying 'two wrongs don't make a right'?

I suggest you read, contemplate and digest the comment made by Knight Templar above then perhaps take a Bex and have a lie down.

If they are not employed by us how come we can sack them at elections.  We pick them, we pay them, to me that makes them our employees.

Hypocracy and misappropriation of public money, two wrongs and not in any way right.

Employees in all four parliamentary departments (Senate, House of Reps, Parliamentary Services, Parliamentary Budget Office) are employed under the Parliamentary Service Act 1999, paid by the Commonwealth, in turn funded by Australian taxpayers.

Yes we elect them, and if paying tax, we pay them. If that doesn’t make us their employers, who is/are their actual employer/s Freddie?

It is really none of our business.  In fact, I am not interested in this saga at all.

If I were part of either family, then, yes, the issue might be of interest, but I am not.

As soon as this man decided to use public funds to help his girlfriend it became our business.  All expenditure made by politicians or public servants is liable to scrutiny.  It is after all our money.

My opinion of Australians has again gone down hill.

Accepting this behavior as normal is terrible for society.

Goodbye all values we fought for in the wars.

I think the most important thing here is that these politicians are Australia’s ambassadors.  They represent us to the world.  When the world sees sleazy politicians they perceive the rest of Australians as sleazy.  We are all tarred with the same brush.

No their job is to put Australia first .

What the rest of the world thinks is immaterial

We should learn from president Trump .

America first who cares what shithole countries that take billions in aid and are corrupt think .

Time we put Australia and particularly our pensioners first .

Woweee?! I just read a few posts and am sadened by the lack of understanding and empathy coming from our seniors. I dont really know what's been going on in the Joyce household. I have absolutely no idea and no interest in knowing. But I do know that love is such an emotional experience that often leads people away from their relationship goals. If we chose to sack everyone who has had a failed marriage then we would have very high unemployment.

This newspaper article made headlines back in 2009.

LEADING Labor MP Bill Shorten has confirmed he's expecting a child with girlfriend Chloe Bryce, the daughter of the Governor-General, as both battle messy divorces with their previous partners.

Mr Shorten, 42, and sometimes touted as a future Prime Minister, told The Sunday Telegraph the baby was due in January.

Contacted to comment, Mr Shorten's estranged wife, Debbie Beale, said, "You're tempting me", before declining to comment.

Friends say Ms Beale has observed that it was "interesting that Mr Shorten and Ms Bryce are expecting a baby, while both remain married to other people".

You are only adding to the muck racking of people’s personal lives

Sorry Brocky, I wasnt referring to your personal life in any way. I apologise if you have taken it personally.

WOW, this is a popular thread! Ok here's my take on the "happening". If  you want a private life, do not become a public figure. What happens between a pollie and his wife behind closed doors is their  business. What happends between a very highly paid public servant who was elected to help run this country and an employee is public information. It's none of our business how their marriage broke down, but why should my taxes go towards paying for the  shenanigans?

I think Hawke is possibly the best PM Australia has ever had .

Do I agree with some of his choices in his personal life no .

But I am pleased for him that he found happiness ..

Barnaby at 50 has raised 5 adult children .

If he now embarks on a new family I wish him well .

I undertook the same thing at  55 and found it fun fun fun

Good good good ! and look how that turned out, LOL

What do you mean Micha

i have 5 wonderful children

the youngest 15 and the oldest 57

...... "Hawke"  best Prime Minister?   You cannot be serious?????    ROFLMFAO   - He "screwed" Blanche' - just another dickhead - or dick "whatever" or "dipstick" ...... lol lol lol ....oh phuleeeezeeee .........spare me  ...................... lol

Yes Hawke was our best Prime Minister set us up for the longest run I History Of growth by any country

It is our business only due to the public nature of the employment of both parties in this messy saga.  To me it is just another example of the "midlife crisis "  which often seems to happen to men when they hit fifty.  A younger woman gives the man a little positive attention and he thinks "whoopee, Ive still got it!" and he can't resist the lure of the forbidden fruit.   Anyone should be able to understand the power of that great rush of dopamine and adrenaline when you fall in love, it's very hard to resist.  The problem is that so often it ebbs away and he realizes that he has burned his bridges.  That said, I wish everyone involved well, and hope all can find resolution.  It's a pity that so many people are hurt in these situations.   I wonder what may have happened if the young lady had not become pregnant.  Would it all have ended differently?

No Barnaby will have a wonderful life with a new family

good in him

As previously stated, I have no intrerest in this saga at all ...

There are many posts recommending he should be sacked.

This posits the question whether there should be "policing" of politicians private lives to see if they are fit for office.

Would this include politicians who frequent brothels?  Or ... have some abberant sexual proclavities.

I personally have not much respect, if any, for our politicians.

I believe, however, that they should be closely policed as to how they exploit their public office, graft etc.. gain from the public purse ...  How they cheat the Australian public.  They get away with far too much.

They are not answerable to the public regarding their private behaviour, but they sure are answerable to the Australian people in regard to their public lives and behavior.

Yes  see where Shanghai Sam has been given a comfortable post by his mates .

Tratorus bustard

I could not care less about this and as for sacking him for what has been going on;  they would have to sack a heck of a lot more of them on both sides of parliament...no wonder most pollies are keeping their mouths shut.

There are a lot more who have been playing up on their wives/hus bands but it has not hit the headlines.

Radish,

I absolutely agree with you.

These politicians spend long stretches of time away from home ... and just basing their private behaviour on their public actions ... I imagine some(?) of them would be at it like fruit flies.

Or in Shortens case , dung beetles

Ohhhhh really Radish?  Who?  Please tell us? Who else has been "playing up"???    You seem to have privy to "top secret" information regarding our Pollies "sex lives"????  How do you know???    lol lol  lol

Yes why aren’t women supporting the lady . Who is clever and wants to have a family with Barnaby .

As Micha says as Thea ain’t love grand .

lets be happy for the couple

Brocky,

This saga is none of our business ... and, consequently, I have no support (nor opinion) of the woman involved.

Could not agree more but it’s fun showing up the luvvies hypocrisy

Brocky,

I think you are making assumptions, which may not be accurate.

You don't know if Barnaby wanted to have a child ... nor have a future with the woman.

The father of woman, with whom she was estranged, is now trumpetting "shot-gun wedding!!!"

Good on Barnaby for doing the right thing ..

its his future not the fathers

Wow, whoever started this one has given the hornets' nest a good old whack. What a pity Tony Windsor decided not to stand in the New England by-election. If it could have been arranged for the story, complete with a front page picture of the pregnant Miss Campion,to break in the mainstream media during the election campaign the result might have been so much more satisfactory. Barnaby Joyce's response to the Four Corners water theft in Western NSW story was completely gutless in once again pushing it off onto the State Govt. instead of stepping in as Federal Govt. Water Minister to try and fix the whole Murray-Darling Basin problem at its core. What the hell does this man, and the Govt. he represents, stand for when it comes to helping ordinary people and battler farmers?

Yep we might have leaned how much money Windsor made from the mining companies

but no the left wing press doesn’t attack its own

This week the United States,House of Representatives passed legislation banning sexual relationships between members of the house. The measure has yet to go to the Senate. The congressional action follows a raft of scandals in the US involving harassment, and the #MeToo movement. Same action is needed here in Australia. The Parliament is a place of work and good workplace practice includes clear expectations about behaviour.

I say, forensic tests should be done on all the desks at Parliament House, you never know what you’ll find!  and Lie Detector Tests done. That’s one way “we can keep the bastards honest”, as good old Don Chipp said back in 1977 or thereabouts.

Remember the ten commandments? “thou shalt not commit adultery”, an offence  punishable by stoning, here’s my contribution to start to ball rolling

Hilarious! Thanks for a Saturday morning laugh Micha. If we  did what you suggest though, we'd no longer have a  Parliament I fear.

Being of the old school myself I value the sanctity of marriage, but what others do is their business. In Joyce's case though, he is a public figure and is there because he was elected to do a job and not to have a mistress  at our expense. I hope some  action is taken against him not as a man but as a politician.

Would it be ok if he had a wife at our expense? Or a husband at our expense?

I believe politicians' wives are given certain privileges and I don't have a problem with that and I guess if he had a husband, the situation nowadays may not be any different. But you can't have both sides of your toast buttered at the taxpayers' expense. Just my opinion.

So your real problem is that he did not defy the laws of attraction? Or that he did not advertise that his marriage was on the rocks a few years ago?

I know of a couple of my mates who have had seperation from their wives but remained living under the same roof for 3 or 4 years while they sorted out the details. I wouldnt recomend it, very messy. But that's their choice. One of the great choices we have as humans, we get to choose our relationships.

Should a man (or woman) not find happiness under those traumatic circumstances?

Why try to make an expectant mother unhappy and ashamed of her pregnancy?

Nonsense Frank, you are trying to excuse him. He paraded his wife and daughters around the place in the guise of “Happy Family” during his bielection campaign, while all the while he was having this affair. His wife said she felt betrayed because work colleagues, including the mistress, were often invited to their home for social occasions and she had no idea the affair was happening. He deceived his wife and then used her and his daughters to present an image to New England voters that he was a loyal husband and family man. He’s a narcissistic creep and a hypocrite of the first order.

The nonsense is all coming from you Robi, your post makes no sense at all.

How well we describe ourselves when describing others.

Once a penal colony and now a penis colony LOL

What a load of low life gutter snipes.

Well put Somebody    Image result for smiley thumbs up

I see your point..err.
