What’s open, what's not over the Easter long weekend

You've forgotten to buy the tartare sauce and the grandies have unexpectedly arrived and you need extra sausages for the barbecue - and Easter eggs. What's open and when?

Good Friday

It's a public holiday and one of the quietest days of the year on the retail front - even more so than Christmas day when there are usually a few servos and associated shops open. So be sure to plan around an almost blanket retail shutdown.

Aldi: Closed in NSW, the ACT, Victoria, Queensland, SA and WA.

Coles: Closed in NSW, the ACT, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania; closed in SA stores except for Mount Barker and Victor Harbor; closed in WA except for Vasse, Busselton, Margaret River, Dunsborough and Eaton Fair.

Woolworths: Closed in NSW, ACT, Victoria, the NT and Tasmania; closed in WA except for Busselton, Eaton and Margaret River; closed in Queensland except for Brisbane Airport; closed in SA except for Mount Barker, Murray Bridge Marketplace and Victor Harbor.

Easter Saturday

Easter Saturday is not a public holiday, and most retail stores will be open. Most cafes and restaurants will also be open as usual.

Easter Sunday

You'll find more open on Easter Sunday than on Good Friday, but many shops will still be shut.

Aldi: All stores open in Victoria, Queensland and WA; all ACT stores will be open except for Queanbeyan; most stores in NSW and SA will be closed. Check the website for details.

Coles: Open in Victoria except for Croydon North and Little Knox; mostly closed in NSW except for Lavington, Deniliquin, Bega, Tuggerah, Wyoming, Goulburn, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Broadway, Erina, Forster, Bateau Bay, Katoomba, Wadalba, Marketown, Grafton Shoppingworld, Tweed City, Tweed Heads, Lismore, Grafton, Murwillumbah, Yamba, Ocean Shores, Banora Point, Kempsey, Laurieton, Green Point, Moss Vale, South Grafton, Casino, Eden, Chittaway Point, Shellharbour, Lisarow, Medowie, Salamander Bay; open in the ACT, the NT and Tasmania will be open; open in WA (Perth stores from 11am-5pm, regionals will vary); closed in SA except for Adelaide CBD and Rundle Place (11am-5pm). Check here for more details.

Woolworths: Most closed in NSW and ACT; open in Victoria except for Moama; open in Queensland, the NT and Tasmania; open in WA except for Esperance; open in SA’s Rundle Mall and in some regions but closed in Adelaide metropolitan areas and Millicent; open in the NT and Tasmania. Check here for more details.

Easter Monday

Monday is a public holiday, but it’s business as usual for most traders.

Check store websites for updates and opening hours.

The statement you are making is actually wrong with Easter Saturday. If you look at the Fair Work Ombudsman list of Public holidays Easter Saturday is mentioned as a public holiday in the ACT, NSW. NT, Qld, SA, Tasmania, Victoria and WA.

Basically, if it's not mentioned as closed, then 'normal' retail hours apply.

This is only to give us the stores that will be open if they are trading, or closed if they're not trading.  Usually Easter Saturday and Monday are 'normal' trading hours, unless otherwise specified.

Good Friday and Christmas Day are the only 2 days of the year that 'most' stores are closed.  It has nothing to do with the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Just back from my local supermarket ... hopefully will not have to visit again until after Easter but thanks for all the info Janelle.

Pleased there is no extended lockdown in Queensland this Easter.
