What our former leader said next

It’s always interesting to see what our former pollies do after a life in the spotlight. Usually some high-paying consultancy or a cushie job overseas.

But see if you can guess who uttered these words on the weekend.

“We trust in him. We don’t trust in governments. We don’t trust in United Nations, thank goodness. We don’t trust in all of these things as fine as they might be and as important as the role that they play. Believe me, I’ve worked in it.

“But as someone who’s been in it, if you are putting your faith in those things, like I put my faith in the Lord, you are making a mistake. They are fallible.”

That was part of a speech/sermon delivered by former PM Scott Morrison at a church founded by former tennis great Margaret Court in Perth, according to footage shared by Ten News and news.com.au.

Mr Morrison also spoke about anxiety and said those who give in to their worries as giving in to “Satan’s plan”.

Has he found his true calling or is he simply disillusioned and hurt by his election loss?

ScoMo knows we all have a path to walk in life, which doesn't always go where we think it should or want it to.

GOD knows what is best for us, and takes us along the best path for us, teaching us lessons on the way.

Follow HIS lead with faith - and all will be well! :)

As close to an admission we are ever going to get from him about the lying and cheating that goes on in governments of all colours and persuasions.  Everything he did in public life and government goes against the so called ethics of religion, so his hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Totally agree with that statement johninmelb.

Hypocrite.

The only truly positive thing Morrison did was to push Tony Abbot out of the "Worst Prime Minister we have had" spot.

He, Morrison, continues to be two faced as in this speech, or sermon, he points the finger at Governments yet he still draws a healthy pay packet from the taxpayers. If he was going to be honest, but as Buddy Holly said "That'll be the day", he would have resigned from Parliament.

LOL Morrison says not to trust governments. I hope he includes the one he ran because it was one of the worst ever.

Scummo has always been a total religious nutter like margaret court now he does not have to hide it

This is Morrison, once again, shifting responsibility to "out there" rather than taking any personal responsibility for the debacle he presided over, trying to suggest it was really all just part of God's plan. Also, anxiety has many causes including as a result of life's experiences including various forms of abuse. It has nothing to do with Satan but is often very difficult to overcome to the extent that many people just have to learn to live with it. Having said that, Morrison himself did cause me a fair bit of anxiety especially when I considered the possibility that he might be re-elected... or was that Satan??

Most people are informed by their value systems and beliefs, regardless of the religious or non-religious traditions that shape them. Scott Morrison’s Pentecostal Christian faith is at the centre of his understanding of political life. In his maiden speech to Parliament in 2008, he described himself as standing for “the immutable truths and principles of the Christian faith”.

I personally feel this statement is inappropriate, considering Australia is a country that invites people of all religions or non religions to reside here.

Quite frankly, I do not have much time for those that believe God created the world in six literal days (roughly 4,000 years) before Christ. I would put that view firmly in the ignorance basket. Your faith is important to you and of course it guides the decisions you make, but it’s not a cure for all.  No one has the right to foist their beliefs on others.

I believe Scott Morrison has always felt he had a “calling” but I would suggest, that “calling” is not politics. He would make a good preacher…for Christians… who blindly follow his ideas…like Margaret Court.

A great man once said “God has no religion.” I support that.

I also add each political party has its good and bad points. None are perfect.

Excellent post Sophie. I see no reason to demonise a person because of their beliefs. I would much rather have someone with Christian beliefs run the country than a trigger happy dictator.

What some fail to understand is the man was giving  a sermon in a church, he was not giving it in Parliament.

Completely agree with johninmelb and I was so happy when ScoMo left politics, but for me evangelical christianity is not inclusive so how can it be incorporated into political life?  Australia is made up of a diverse population and is all the better for it, so our politicians have to reflect that and ScoMo didn't.

Ummm Mr Morrison has not 'left politics' at all. He is still the Member for Cook. He was re-elected at the last election and now sits on the backbenches with the other MPs in opposition.

I saw Scott Morrison speaking at that convention in W.A. on the T.V. I got a shock when I saw him as he seemed to have put on a lot of weight and was stumbling over his words. Does not look like a well man.

I hope the vast majority of posters here are never subjected to the amount of vitriol, abuse and judgment as they shower on Mr Morrison. Tolerance is clearly well and truly dead here.

And what tolerance has Morrison ever shown the majority of people in this country. He has shown disrespect continuously over the years especially towards women and the lower classes.

A 3rd rate leader showing bad judgment daily. Can't even make a decision without asking Jenny.

Even making disgusting remarks that women protesting against violence are lucky not to be shot.

But if you want to support such a human being, that's your perogative.

Scumo deserves each and every amount of vitriol and abuse.

The only thing I hope is that when Albanese introduces a Federal ICAC, Scumo is the first to be investigated.

“the immutable truths and principles of the Christian faith”

Immutable?

They don't even know which date their Lord was born on.

The Three Wise Men couldn't have been too wise, they didn't make an appearance in the NT until centuries after they allegedly arrived with gifts and the Star of Bethlehem.

As for the OT, which spans less than 80 generations, we can date Abraham because he had camels, and they weren't domesticated until around 1500BC.

This throws an unwelcome immutable spanner, in the works, when trying to align mythology with history.

If Morrison was sent to fight in a war zone

or

had to actually hold a hose to fight bushfires to save his home

or

had to sit on a slippery rooftop for hours on end as floodwaters swallow his home and threaten to drown him, Jenny and kids

I wonder if he would succumb to "Satan induced" anxiety?

He has always talked too much in his preachy way but his words reveal the mind and heart of a man who lacks deep thought, sensitivity and emotional intelligence.

‘We don’t trust in governments’ or the UN, Scott Morrison tells Margaret Court’s Perth church

Scott Morrison has said he and his fellow worshippers “don’t trust in governments” and “don’t trust in the United Nations” during a sermon at Margaret Court’s church, where the former prime minister also said God had a “plan” for him after his election defeat. Morrison called on worshippers to put their faith in religion above other institutions like government.

For someone receiving the usual government benefits after his retirement as PM, I find those comments hypocritical in the extreme.

Court, a former tennis champion, runs the Victory Life Centre. In August last year, Victory Life Centre said it received more than $500,000 from the jobkeeper program, as well as a $50,000 cashflow boost from a federal government grant, even though its revenue ultimately barely decreased.
