A high-tech Chinese research vessel has been detected mapping strategically important waters off the Western Australian coast where submarines are known to regularly transit.

Key points:

A Defence official said the ship was mapping waters used by Australian submarines to get to the South China Sea

A Border Force spokesperson said the Xiang Yang Hong 01 had stayed in international waters

In 2018, the Xiang Yang Hong 01 was found to be operating illegally within the Exclusive Economic Zone of Palau

In January and February, officials closely tracked the movements of the oceanographic ship as it conducted deepwater surveys in the Indian Ocean near Christmas Island and the Australian mainland.

As I have stated when we returned from our travels two years ago now, China has been very busy in the Pacific, everywhere we went there are signs of infrastructure being managed by the Chinese, goodness knows how these little islands are going to pay back their debts.

From what I read the same is happening in Africa also with the infrastructure in those poorer countries.  Now China is saying all of the South China sea is theirs!  This has got out of control for sure.

Yes I read about that. When the islanders can not pay them back, China will cancel the debt if they allow them to have xyz. One island gave them a small wharf, and they turned it into a military wharf to dock huge ships. They are a virus and ideally drop some potent virus over there and wipe out so many of these war mongers.

A long time ago now, I read about China doing this slow take over for the last 1500 years, so slowly that no one noticed. By the time they do, its Aw Sh!t, too late.

What concerns me is a large takeover where we will be converted to their ways, like the 1 million Uyghurs they have locked in a concentration camp well inland to hide what they are doing, to convert them to their ways.

The most scary part is we have had NO conscription since December 1972 - damn ages now. Not unlike China where it's mandatory to go into the Army. When the war comes, who in the hell is going to be fighting? Most of the younger ones today would bolt to the hills and can't fight their way out of a paper bag.

I don't believe there will be a war!     [it takes two]

It will be over red rover we will wake up and it is over.  For years I have thought that Perth will be taken out as it is isolated and the other cities will be clean from atomic fall out!

I said to my husband this morning, I wonder why the army is going to be taken over to the Top Ends, it keeps on being moved up there!  The next war is not going to be amphibious warfare like WWII in Dunkirk!   I doubt there will even be soldiers here, they will use their armory flying through the air.

America will wake up and it is all over and done with.

As for the lack of conscription I have thought that a very good idea since it was stopped, it gives the youth something to aim at, as the majority of them don't seem to have any idea what they want in life.  Not that I am suggesting that they should aim at being in the Forces, but it would be a good idea if the youth of the country got a back bone and learnt respect and values.

The Chinese government are playing Good Guys and they are spending $$$$$$ billions on infrastructure on the islands, the islanders are not paying anything, they do not have, nor will not have a debt to China.

"""China Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying told a daily briefing in Beijing on Monday China’s relations with Pacific Island countries have been closer since the pandemic began.      We have also considered providing vaccines to the island countries, contributing to the accessibility and affordability of vaccines in the island countries"""" is what Hua Chunying said..

How many Aussies are aware and concerned that China have also started the infrastructure to create a large fishing port in Daru, Papua New Guinea, and it is only 200 kilometres from Australia, and not costing any money from PNG.
Every professional Australian, Indonesian and Papua New Guinea fisherman are fully aware that the sea there does not have many fish due to unsuitable conditions.

Yes Mak I am aware of the Papua New Guinea connection with China it has been in the press and I think I put it on one of the Chinese Threads [2] either one I cannot remember,  I started before everything with the site went off centre!

I don't trust the Chinese government personally do you?

Celia, it takes one to start a fight or war, number two has to defend itself or be wiped out, destroyed, and a pacifist asks, "WHY", we live on a tiny rock in a vast universe but greed is in the make-up of many people from children to mature adults, and leaders of various countries, as in the past, not happy with what they have, they want what everyone else also has.

I don't think the Chinese or Putin think that way.

I think they have so much in their armory they will just use it and we will be defeated before we can say hello!

Celia, don't worry about Russia, worry about China, they will continue taking over by stealth, and don't believe Morrison, he and China are in each others pockets.

LOL  Hi Mak.

Husband doesn't agree with me, he feels China wants Australia as a satellite country of theirs, which makes more sense when you come to think about it.  They are helping Papua New Guinea  with their port and they have Darwin's port, they have all the breeding stock of cattle to move over and off to the mainland.

But why do they have such a big army?  Perhaps they want to walk into India they are already trying!

China is pissed because they are losing backup. The Army isn't so much for India but for the eventual Belt and Road to the front door of Israel. They will march across the old silk road, now to be today's Belt and Road, to achieve that. They have above 3 million soldiers, but it will only require 200,000 to march. Darn overkill I reckon.

China has all the resources that we have in Australia, from metal ore, coal to land, water and the rest of our country which we give to them.

They will deplete all our resources, and grab exports of all resources from other countries until those resources are depleted, then they will use their own resources, plus all the knowledge of IT, mechanics, medicine, animal welfare, crops, seafood et al,  which their students learned in other countries and took back to China.
They are planning, and have been planning a world-wide society of long-term existence, far-reaching beyond the small-minded politicians of Australia, Britain, NZ and European countries who can't see the wood for the trees in the way.
They laugh at Western Countries wasting multi-billions of $$$$$$$$ on a tiny helicopter on Mars, people-manned rockets into the oblivion of space and other ridiculous, expensive projects , for what, to benefit the ego of small-minded people who create and invent worthless helicopters on Mars, and a play-school on a super-expensive Space Station where experiments are trialled.......in space.....people on the ground do not gain any benefit of the billions $$$$$$$ wasted.

How did this happen?

How China owns two of Australia's biggest electricity companies - sparking major security fears as relations with the communist superpower continue to sour

With China-Australia relations hitting a new low (a senior public servant has even said the 'the drums of war' are beating), the federal government has tightened its foreign investment rules.

Two of Australia's biggest energy companies are owned by Chinese investors, sparking national security fears as tensions ramp up with the communist superpower.

Energy Australia, which has 1.7 million customers, is owned by the China Light and Power Company after being sold off by the NSW government for $1.4 billion in 2011.

And Alinta Energy, which has 1.1 million customers, was sold by its private owners to Chow Tai Fook Enterprises for $4billion in 2017.

Although neither Energy Australia or Alinta distribute electricity, both are energy generators and retailers, owning crucial assets such as coal power stations, solar power fields and wind farms.

Alinta Energy's assets include the Braemar Power Station in Queensland, the Wagerup Power Station in Western Australia and the Loy Yang B Power Station in Victoria.

EnergyAustralia's infrastructure includes the Cathedral Rocks wind farm in South Australia, the Tallawarra gas station in NSW and the Yallourn coal station in Victoria.

With China-Australia relations hitting a new low during the coronavirus pandemic (a senior public servant has even said the 'the drums of war' are beating), the federal government has tightened its foreign investment rules and is being urged to take back key national assets from China.

Peter Jennings, executive director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, said foreign ownership of Australia's energy infrastructure is a major worry.

'I do think we need to be very concerned about the security of the electricity grid,' he told Daily Mail Australia.

Earlier this week US President Joe Biden launched a '100-day plan to improve the cybersecurity of the nation's electric infrastructure' amid fears that foreign spies could easily hack in and disrupt the system.

Mr Jennings warned that China - which has been blamed for ongoing cyber attacks in Australia - is 'interested in being able to do precisely this sort of damage, potentially in the lead up to a conflict' and said Chinese ownership of Australian assets makes them more vulnerable.

'In Australia we have the added complication of Chinese (and Hong Kong) owned companies running much of the grid,' he said.

'So this is a serious security concern given the current state and future direction of Australia-China relations.

'I would have thought that, for any Australian government, the risk of leaving this infrastructure in [Chinese] hands is intolerable.'

As well as potentially threatening infrastructure, foreign cyber attackers are also know to target customer and company data.

Scott Morrison, who was treasurer at the time Alinta Energy was sold, approved the deal as long as the new owners complied with 10 secret conditions mostly relating to data security.

But Alinta came under fire last year when it was revealed an internal audit found inadequate systems were in place to protect customer data such as passport numbers, credit card details and even health records. The company said it had taken steps to fix the issue.

Last year Mr Morrison called an extraordinary press conference in which he said a foreign state was launching an unprecedented amount of cyber attacks on Australian institutions. Sources say the attacks have not slowed in recent months.

When contacted by Daily Mail Australia, Alinta Energy declined to comment.

A spokesman for Energy Australia said: 'When our customers share their personal information, they trust us to handle that data like it's our own. That means, above all, keeping it safe.

'Our approach to security overall – digital and our physical assets – is aimed at preventing an incident and, should one occur, responding quickly.

'We continually apply recommendations made by the experts, combining protections for customers, our people and our assets.'

Mr Jennings has also raised concerns about Chinese ownership of two of Australia's most important harbours - Darwin Port and the Port of Newcastle - which were leased to Chinese companies as state governments cashed in on lucrative private investment.

'You don't have to own a piece of critical infrastructure to hack into it, but ownership helps and Chinese law requires all Chinese businesses to assist their intelligence services if asked,' he told Daily Mail Australia.

The Port of Newcastle, the world's biggest coal port, was handed over to a Chinese-backed consortium for 98 years for $1.75 billion when Mike Baird was NSW Premier in 2014.

The decision means the port is half controlled by Aussie company Gardior and half by China Merchants Port Holdings Company until 2112.

Meanwhile, Darwin Port is run by Chinese company Landbridge Group, which secured a 99-year lease in 2015 for just $506 million.

Mr Jennings said the federal government faces a 'difficult problem' in unwinding investment decisions made several years ago but said 'bad behaviour' from China makes the decision easier.

'I have no doubt that the Federal Government will step in to resume control of our critical infrastructure in coming years,' he said.

Chinese-Australian relations have deteriorated since Canberra called for an inquiry into the origins of coronavirus last year.

Beijing has blocked major Australia exports including lobster, beef, barley and wine.

Last week the Morrison government used a new law to tear up the Victorian government's 'Belt and Road' infrastructure deal with Beijing.

I would have thought a Labor Party politics would blend with Communistic leaning  not the right?  I disagreed with my American friend last year when she said Australian politics is Communistic!  She felt that anyone that followed the Liberal Party was right wing?

Was she correct having read this?

I have been saying everywhere I go, and to the stupid selective ministers, that this was going to happen as China was slowly taking over our land. Did they or anyone else listen, friggin No! Now we are likely to be at the mercy of these bastards. Wake up you Australian idiots - STOP buying Chinese products, there are more varieties out there. I send for a lot of things from overseas - ie a Hand Drill from Germany, make in Germany. I will not deal with Australian businesses who flood our country with Chinese garbage, and I tell them that when I look to purchase and after they say its all Chinese.

The Government crippled our businesses in taxes so they had no choice but to move overseas to save money (the businesses are greedy as well). Now we have stuff all manufacturing in Australia.

Well they listened finally to the USA who didn't agree with it.

Would not surprise me it was things like this that made the US stand up and shout at the Liberals!

Pine Gap - Wikipedia

An American Spy Base Hidden in Australia’s Outback - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex - NASA's Deep Space Network

Sad when the Liberals won't listen to their own people!

Glad I am not with either of those energy companies, I chose Red Energy because it is owned by Australian company (as far as I know). We need to make sure we use our purchasing powers more and tell others too as well. Would not surprise me that China is not following these threads about them too.

Our Government needs to stop selling off to foreign investors and buy back what they have already sold. I doubt this will happen under a Liberal Government though they are both just as bad as each other at times.

There is more proof positive every day that every Australian politician is aware that the Chinese politicians and Chinese Communist government authorise every Chinese business to buy and take over every piece or part of everything that is Australia.

All this continues to happen, but an enormous amount of Australians prefer to continue the argy-bargy relating to the Liberal and Labor governments, Morrison and Albanese, and nitpicking which one is better than the other.

There seems to be more interest in various sports than an effort to fully understand the danger to their lives and freedom as China slowly take over and govern Australia.

Australia stands ready to take back Darwin and Newcastle ports from China if security risks are found, Scott Morrison says

The Port of Newcastle, the world's biggest coal port, was handed over to a Chinese-backed consortium for 98 years for $1.75 billion when Mike Baird was NSW Premier in 2014.

I didn't appreciate it was the Port of Newcastle as well as Darwin that the Chinese had their fists on!

So they should, amazing isn't it they got the north and east covered, bet they been trying for the west and south as well.

You are joking? Scomo's statement uses the word "IF". epic FAIL SCOMO!

If anyone thinks China wont well and truly cover their tracks, must not live on this planet.

If anyone in the US made a deal sign and sealed there would be hell to play if the other party pulled the rugs under their feet it is not professional!   Australian Politicians should know what they are signing not just say I want to change it as it doesn't fit with our policies!    What does that make Australians look like?  No wonder the Chinese are mad as snakes, if this happened in a Corporate office the would be blood on the wall and someone would have lost their job.

Look what happened to the Aboriginal Caves that were flattened a few months ago, that was terrible, more than terrible.

The CEO lost his job.

Chinese are business men they don't like being messed about, I am sure the Americans don't either.'

Who ever signed those deals with the Chinese should be made to suffer!

What is China up to? Nuttin much, all they want is to take over, better start learning Mandarin and how to eat with chop sticks.

Out of control 21-TON Chinese rocket is falling to Earth and nobody knows where it could land: Fears it could shower debris over New York, Madrid and Beijing

China launched its Long March 5b rocket could have an uncontrolled reentryThe rocket launched last week to deliver the first modular of a space stationOfficials found the core stage is moving slowly and uncontrolled toward EarthLong March 5b was initially set to land in a pre-designed spot in the ocean However, experts warn large chunks could fall on inhabited areas

An out-of-control 21-ton Chinese rocket is falling to earth and could land on populated areas, experts warn.

China’s Long March 5b rocket that launched Thursday is predicted to crash back to Earth within the next few days.

Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer who tracks objects orbiting Earth, told SpaceNews that it's path takes it ‘a little farther north than New York, Madrid, Beijing and as far south as southern Chile and Wellington, New Zealand'.

It could land anywhere in this range, that covers oceans and populated and unpopulated areas, but most of it would burn up in the atmosphere.

Satellite trackers have detected the 100-foot-long rocket travelling at more than four miles per second.

China launched Long March 5B at 11:23 am local time on Thursday to deliver the first stage of its upcoming space station.

The module, named 'Tianhe', or 'Harmony of the Heavens', will become living quarters for three crew members once the massive structure is complete.

China aims to complete its Chinese Space Station, known as Tiangong (Heavenly Palace) by the end of 2022, state media reported, after several further modules are launched.

When complete, Tiangong Space Station  will orbit Earth at an altitude of 211 to 280 miles.

Analyzing the rockets orbit in space, experts have generated a predicted trajectory for when the core stage falls back to Earth. Pieces that survive the burn up in the atmosphere could land just north of New York, Madrid, Beijing or as far south as southern Chile and Wellington, New Zealand '.

It's expected to have a mass between 180,000 and 220,000 pounds – roughly one-fifth the mass of the ISS, which is 925,335 pounds.

China aims to become a major space power by 2030 to keep up with rivals, including the US, Russia and the European Space Agency, and create the most advanced space station orbiting Earth.

So much space debri these days.

I am beginning to feel this is no mistake RnR;  instead of a Missile the world can receive a huge fall from the sky!    The planet could be sitting ducks.  Especially reading the last news item below.  As I called this Thread What are the Chinese up to?

China has been preparing for Third World War with biological weapons for last six years, US investigators say

The dossier by People's Liberation Army scientists and health officials examined the manipulation of diseases to make weapons 'in a way never seen before'.

And this is being supported by the USA, and according to the 60 minutes special investigation report recently it is very feasible that the current trial run was leaked from the same place they are still working on them. Scary stuff.
