What Have I Done

Hi to all people of good will on this site.
Recently retired, been away for three months and now the sound of doubts are getting louder......
Have I retired too early?
What do I do now?
How do I keep my brain active.....(not crosswords, sudoko etc.), not my cup of tea...(well perhaps the occasional sip wouldn't be so bad!).
Not really a hobby person.
Love golf, tennis walking, exploring, hopping on a tram with my backpack and following my nose......
Should I volunteer my time and expertise and continue to make a contribution to my community?
Should I forget the craziness of the working life entirely and just recharge my batteries.....
Too many questions....and let's not mention the time!
So all you experienced retirees out there, having crossed the threshold, how do I have some fun and leave the worries of the world till tomorrow?

Volunteering work for not for profit organisations is my way of trying to be useful.

Doing what you feel comfortable with but leaving time to do your own thing.

Try and keep the brain active.

I think most retirees will say "how did I find time to do all this when I was working ? "

All the best,

Gerry

I have been retired for many years and I am never bored--there is much to see and do--there are many places to explore in Aussie alone plus as you say there are many organizations that would be glad of your help. Do you own your own home--I know that keeps me very busy as well. I wonder now how I ever had time to go to work.

It's always a bit of a culture shock when you retire, so take your time deciding what to do. List your skills and abilities and decide which of these you would like to share. Alternatively, try something new. Just be careful to strike a balance, don't over-commit yourself. Volunteering is a great way to go, but be firm about the amount of time you are prepared to give. Find something you will enjoy. Just check out "volunteering" on the net and "try before you buy". You don't want to get tied into something you find you hate. There are so many options, if you enjoy golf, plan a golf course tour either in your state, around Australia or even overseas, then get a group of likeminded people, and take off. If you get enough people you could probably travel free. Whatever you decide, just remember, this is a new beginning, don't look back and let us all know how you go.

My answer to your comment here is YES and although I can not really add to the advice given I am able to say ......

It worked for me and I was able to get some exercise from the job as well as to help a heap of old folk who were struggling ...........I have left time for house chores and family and a couple of small hobbies but to Volunteer some time has been good for me also
