What does 60 mean in London?

I am posting this on behalf of Tyler who was unable to post this message and asked us to do so.

I wanted to voice my astonishment when I received, from a long standing penfriend in London who typed that when you reach 60, you get free passports, free travel within Greater London but more amazing, was that prescriptions are free.
There were other 'free' things too but prescriptions, how can their government afford to do this when there are so many living there?
There's only about 21 million of us and though we are grateful for what we get, we only get a $5.80 prescription allowance. Most of us oldies need more than one medication.

Also is it possible to have a section on trips, tours, etc. where one can be picked up from home? (or does anyone know sites who offer this)

I think that would be really interesting.

Thanks.
Tyler

It IS very interesting...

Thanks for passing it on.

I spoke with a friend in England who also said that they get a "free" phone - there are so many more of their taxpayers, wheras, we have so few, maybe that is the difference.

I have a friend of pension age that moved to London and she tells me that at least with the health system, all is not necessarily as it seems. It can be difficult to get to see a good specialist and the system overall is nowhere near as good as ours in Australia. She takes multiple drugs to treat various illnesses and tells me that the drugs she has available to her in London are quite antiquated. The more modern drugs which are better and have few (if any) side effects are just not available on the "National Health". She gets by and enjoys life there, but she freely admits that for medical treatment, she would be better off in Oz.

I understand that some Brits may wish to take issue with this, but I am merely reporting what has been told to my by an Aussie in the UK.

Just goes to prove even with a flat pancake there are always two sides.

Thanks for that kfchugo.

Nice gesture Admin. re the little green boxes.
