What do you think of the Age Pension changes?

The latest pension indexation amounts to a little over $5 a week. With many retirees taking a significant hit to their retirement income due to the market slump as a result of the coronavirus, should the government have done more to support those on fixed incomes?

What are you planning on doing with the extra money? Will it cover any of your extra costs? Do you think that it is even keeping pace with inflation?

Let us know your thoughts on the latest pension increase in the comments section below.

As always, it's a frogging JOKE !  It's ONE.25 cups of coffee per week. How many politicians would crap their dax if they got a rise of $5 per week?

Well it will never be enough if you just have to rely on the pension but Im grateful for small mercies

I am with you, bandy. Have friends still at work who had not received a pay rise in 18 months, so who am I to complain about getting at least something?

I'm left speachless - again ! Its not even worth commenting. I've lived through some EXTREMELY hard times, one of the episode being described by the Chief Editor of The Age as "equivalent to the Paedophile" cases which has totally destroyed our family creaated by one brother - a leading internatitonal Jesuit and his immediate superior who is top of the Human Rights legal fraternity here. - plus a lot more!! the whole thing is a joke. but - I will succeed one day in the not too distant future.

I am with all those good people who are struggling, appreciative of what we have and stay strong. we are still better off than all those other dear souls on the planet who have 'nothing' like we have. so 'thank you' for small mercies!!

"I'm left speachless - again ! Its not even worth commenting."

And yet you have!

Dosen't even cover my rent increase. However, I am not complaining as there are people worse off.

It would be better if the state government was not going to take 25% of it for rent on my state housing home

i am surprised that the federal government lets them get away with calculating the supplements as well as the base pension

for rent purposes. IT should be ilegal and is definetly immoral

Be happy to have Govt housing, Bob. You are sure of your accommodation at a fixed price. There are a few people paying more than 25% of their income in rent and rent assistance does not make up for it.

The increase is not keeping up with cost of living / CPI. there have been no wage increases for years. We are all worse off. Any increase in money to help low income / the aged / DSP / Job seekers etc will be worse off due to companies immediately increase their costs for food, power , fuel, health care . education. day cares. and other services / agencies as soon as there is a increase offered to those worst off. The divide between those who have and those who have not is getting further apart. If anything, crime will increase etc. Should the global down-turn continue due to the virus we are going to be in real difficulty, Australia has sold most of its manufacturing / land etc to China etc. I believe we maybe going into a recession.

This pissant increase is a pour joke. We paid for our age pension, 7.5% of our taxable income over our working lives. Despite what Moron-son likes to lie about.

Mentioned that many times in this column, David, but shouted down by some claiming it is welfare not an entitlement. Mostly some SFRs are of that opinion.

Our pension entitlements went up in smoke when Mr Keating gave us the depression that we had to have. The Govt spent our pension money elsewhere and shortly after the compulsary Super started up. But we missed out on the years required for self funding retirement.

We are the bludgers, according the the current workforce, that don't deserve a stress free retirement.

Afterall we only worked all our lives to be bludgers?

Agree Billv

Single Aged Pension =

The increase starts on the 20th March and it is $7.20  -- brings FULL single pension to $940.60

Don't spend it all in the one shop --

It's $10.90/ftn and will be $944.30/ftn and an $8.30/ftn each for couples. $711.80/ftn each for couples.

It is not about how much the increase is, it is about SOOTY FROM MARKETING being able to claim that he has provided an increase.

It's all about the next election, nothing to fo with the wellbeing of Pensioners.

Who's "SOOTY FROM MARKETING?"

There is something oddly disturbing about a puppy in a uniform calling someone Sooty!!

"SOOTY FROM MARKETING" is your beloved boss, 20/20.

20/20

Should be reported to the RSPCA. That poor puppy looks stressed and miserable.

Btw, more news coming out of Wuhan. The virus was not started by bats as first suspected.

It's the charbroiled anacondas that the locals like.

No there has been NO increase in wages for many years in a hell of a lot of places --- except the politicians of course and they get it every year at a GREAT amount!

More than enough.

NO   NO   NO  $5.10 WK  How can we afford to buy toilet paper ???

The one big rise that makes politicians' pay nearly three times the average

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-10-10/chart-of-the-day-mp-pay/10356170

2012 was a big year for MPs' pay packets

The Remuneration Tribunal awarded MPs two pay increases in 2012 (30.3 per cent in March and 3 per cent in July), giving them a $54,000 raise in one year (adjusted for inflation).

That's $1,038.46 per week ! ...and here we are... dismayed... we get only a $5 per week increase. How good is that Australia?

I guess any amount offered will be never enough . However, its just not keeping up with the cost of living, its just not fair nor reasonable, its a bloody insult. Morrison has given out huge amounts of money to overseas and space programs, big business, sold off manufacturing etc but what happened to looking after Aussies / the country. We pay and have contributed large amounts of $'s via taxes, put up with double-dipping by the Government and they still want more blood and extend the retirement age further. Lets face it, due to his reception pertaining to visiting farmers, Bush Fire Victims and Floods he knows the public are generally pissed off with his holiday and handling of the drought , bush fires and floods, motor vehicle manufacturing etc., I would be concerned if I was him. Take it personally PM, we do.. The Morrison government are looking after themselves first, just like the Sports , ( "Sydney "pool" Regional", what a insult . Morrison just buying votes with this latest offer and has insulted us by thinking we will forget his stuff ups. Dear Mr Morrison I wouldn't get to comfortable with your free gifts / gold cards supplied by us the "taxpayer", have your bags packed ready to go because your going to be out of job when we vote. Morrison and all you shiney arse Pollies.,  "you work for us, not the other way round".

Arg, go and have a cold shower.

Some people are never grateful mate, no matter what they're given on a platter.
