Was Julie Bishop 'robbed'?

Reading reports in the aftermath of last week's Liberal Party leadership fiasco, one can't help but think that Julie Bishop was robbed.

One reporter said that the only reason Ms Bishop was not chosen as the new Liberal leader was because she is a woman.

YourLifeChoices members also stated that she was the preferred leader – by quite the margin, too.

Yet, the Libs went with what you said was your least preferred option.

How could the party get it so wrong?

It cannot be denied that Ms Bishop has the resume to stand as Australia's leader.

Her presence on the global stage is arguably unequalled in Australian history, and her popularity, image and approach to politics would almost undoubtedly have led the Libs out of the quagmire they now find themselves.

Even Bill Shorten admitted that he would have had a bigger fight on his hands with Ms Bishop as the Coalition's chief.

So, do you think Ms Bishop was robbed? Would she have been able to restore your faith in the system? Do you think she was not chosen simply because she is a woman? Would you like to see her run for PM in the future?

Bill Shorten was so dissapointed for Julie Bishop missing out on being the new PM. So dissapointed, that he blocked her appointment as the next Governor General. Was it because Julie is a woman? It has become increasingly clear why people dont see Bill as a leader. Lets remember that the Liberals had women MPs long before Labor had a single one.

Bill Shorten wants to appoint his own GG when he wins the next election. All PMs like to appoint their own GG. Your statement about Labor and women and Libs and women is utter nonsense.

Why would a Lagor PM appointm a Liberal as the GG or give any of them a job afetr Tony Abbot pulled the job of Brax.

Yes, Bill constantly reminds one of his thoughtful and intelligent reasoning behind his decisions.

"I don't know what she said, but I agree with what she said."

How could the party get it so wrong indeed? I think it was definitely because she is a woman. It would be interesting to know who gave her their votes (11 in all)...was it the other women? The Liberal Party is a men’s club.

I guess it is possible too that she was not very popular within the party for other reasons. We only know her public image...they know her better. One thing the last week has shown us is that the moderates within the party are dominated and out flanked by the hard right. Abbott and fellow cronies seem to be running the show.

If Julie Bishop missed out on the PM job because she was a woman then it stands to reason (and has the same level of credibility) that she got the job as Foreign Minister because she is a woman. Of course in my opinion neither would be accurate. Although she may have got the job as Foriegn Minister because she has been a lifelong friend of the person who appointed her?

Kick the whole lot out of parliament. Replace them with a bunch of children who can't do any worse than this mob of immature idiots, at a fraction of the wages cost to taxpayers. Who knows, maybe the children  will do better.

How could the party get it so wrong? Is it at all possible that those outside the party are the ones who got it wrong?

Goodness do you mean the Australian people? Of course, we don’t really count do we? The Party is supreme!!!

When it comes to electing a party leader, you are correct. They could adopt the Labor, Unions, GetUp method whereby a vote is weighted in relation to your intellectual superiority (union boss) and call it democratisation. Anyway, Albo will get his chance after the next election.

After the events of a few days ago .. how can anyone that "thinks rationally" really believe that any political party regardless of their affiliations is really there to "Serve the people of Australia" ... Does anyone remember the theme of the Liberal Party before the last election ???

"How can the voters trust the Labour Party ?? with all the backstabbing and chair shuffling the person you vote for will probably not see out his or her term of office"

Shows the true hypocrisy of the whole lot of them .. They will say and do whatever it takes legal and not so legal to hold onto their grip on the power and prestige ... Snouts in the trough .... and we still put up with it ... shows how much the media can sedate the people ....

Labor party in Australia, Labour is English version.

Liberal Party is the winner of the most vicious party being sexist, back stabbing, bullying and stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

Well worn war cry of the modern day feminists who don’t know a darn thing about real feminism.. “Wouldn’t the world be so much better if more women were in charge?” What sort of women are they talking about for goodness sake?

Personally..I would not like a world ruled by women..nor..would I like a world ruled by men. I would like a world ruled by people who are properly balanced. Both men and women make excellent contributions to society. It is about equality. To say so and so should have gotten a job because she is a woman insults women in general..it destroys the ideologies people like my own Grandmother have fought for back in the Victorian era.

Oppression will not cease to exist simply because a woman is in charge. It’s not about making women the leader..it is about making both women and men equally able to succeed as leaders..

Without doubt Julie Bishop was the most popular candidate. A Roy Morgan poll held the day before the ballot found she had a 28-point lead over Bill Shorten and the best chance of winning the next election . A News Corp poll found she was way ahead of her colleagues as preferred leader.. with a solid 40 per cent polled..  Scott Morrison, had only 5 per cent!

So why did she not succeed? In my opinion it was not because she is a woman.. but.. because she was far too loyal and close to Malcolm Turnbull. She is Turnbull’s friend and it didn’t make sense to the assassins to have a mirror image of him..after all..she might even go to him for advice!

I have no doubt there are great things ahead for Julie..so..Ms Bishop keep wearing your red heels!

Spot on Sophie!!

If only she had known, all she had to do was click her heels together?

She was an incompetent globalist. As with Turnbull, she stabbed Abbott in the back and proved to be as vindictive, self serving and hypocrital as Malcom. Her contribution to foreign affairs was based on her sychopancy to the UN. She should disappear quietly, to be never heard again.

Too much of "because she is a woman". Need to say all the bad things about women,

so people know it is not sexist.

Women are not treated well in the liberal camp. Now, another one is resigning citing bullying and stating the last week was too much. These women are not wimps. They have held strong positions before and during political careers. It is a men’s club. Excuses made by some do not wash. Call it what it is.....sexism and ruthless self seeking!

The Labor camp know how to treat a woman just ask Emma Husar. Absolutely disgraceful!

Labor did not treat Emma Husar badly and she spoke highly of the support offered by Bill Shorten. There were complaints which were investigated and she has been exonerated for most of them. I’m not sure that any of them stuck. Great interview with her last night on the 7.30 Report. Get with the latest Adrianus.

Who cares, she tried to rob the victims of Abestos abuse by James Hardy.  She opposed the Labor Party of trying to gain a  place on the Security Council and of wasting taxpayers money on the attempt.  Could have been another big mistake.

She has been a loyal deputy to four leaders.  Realy!  Lady Mcbeth had more principles.

She did derss nice and ahd a carer to look after her on her taxpayer funded trips.

Oh for goodness sake. She was a lawyer and her job was to fight for her client regardless of any personal feelings about the case. Even pedofiles and murderers get a lawyer to defend them! Should that lawyer NOT work to the best of thier ability, they themselves can (and are) sued. She did her job is all! And from her client's perspective did it well.

Her previous occupation as a lawyer in a high profile case has nothing to do with her performance as a Foreign Secretary.

Since Gillard was the most incompetent PM we have ever had, it is hard to imagine a woman being appointed to the top job again.

Julia, get out put your feet up, your contribution to Australia has been extraordinary

What a sad sad comment.

According to you Julia Gillard is both the incompetent and made an extraordinary contribution, but the article was in relation to Julie Bishop and you made no mention of her.

For me, of the three contenders for leadership, Ms Bishop was the most palatable. Not because of her gender but because she has demonstrated her ability to lead and is closer to true liberalism (as exemplified by previous liberal leaders up to, but not including, Mr Howard) than either Mr Morrison or Mr Dutton. Nowadays the Liberal Party has gone too far to the right to be remain attractive to me.

This puts me in a quandry, do I support Liberal withn their extreme (almost facist) right wing, Labor with their extreme left wing, One Nation with their xenophobic rantings or the Greens with their indecisive policy agenda. The moderate parts of both Liberal and Labor are fairly similar. Mr Shorten seems to have his extreme left wing under control for the moment but can Mr Morrison achieve what Mr Turnbuill failed to do and get the extreme right wing under control.

Time will tell!

"Mr Shorten seems to have his extreme left wing under control for the moment.."

HA HA HA good one Eddy!

Image result for laughter

I would not laugh Adrianus, it is a serious situation, I think he does 'at the moment', but then a day is a long time in politics.

Bill Shorten is a trojan horse. He has been on his best behaviour so far, apart from a couple of traffic infringements as they say. He has no control over the marxists, they control him.

""Nowadays the Liberal Party has gone too far to the right to be remain attractive to me.""

Interesting to read your comment, as many Liberal voters have turned away from the Party, saying the exact opposite, that they have moved away from the Centre to the Left.

What a lot of hypocritical nonsense. Women want equality but they really want to be more equal and play the gender card at each and every opportunity. In Bishop's case, a democratic vote by her party got rid of a PM they didn't want and installed a PM they did want. That's politics 101 and has nothing to do with gender; it's called saving the furniture. The best person for a job is neither male or female exclusively, it's the one who is more qualified, more experienced and more suitable for the position regardless of gender.

When I say that women want more, you just have to look at the ridiculous claims that they want 50/50 gender equality in the workplace and claim that they want to see more women on building sites. That, of course, means that men will be excluded from applying for the same job. When it was pointed out that nursing and teaching are well over represented by women, the response was that they couldn't see the need to stop women from applying for those careers.

Well said Old Man.

Quote Old Man:

The best person for a job is neither male or female exclusively, it's the one who is more qualified, more experienced and more suitable for the position regardless of gender.”

Julie Bishop was the most qualified, the most experienced and regarded by the Australian people (according to the poll) as the most suitable for the job. So why wasn’t she chosen?

he lost a democratic vote Robi.

Get over it

Also known as the wicked witch of the west. She took hundreds of thousands from retirees and gave it to a corrupt muslim dominated UN and  other muslim countries. As a lawyer she robbed the victims of James Hardy. She is a Bitch,

Are you for real!

With you 100% mike

Agree totally with Mike, very bad news, rightly called Turnbull in dress! Hope she disappears like Turnbull...
