Coronavirus is 'uniquely adapted to infect humans': Top vaccine scientist says it could only have come from an animal through a 'freak of nature' - and the possibility it leaked from Wuhan lab MUST be investigated

Scientists have produced evidence that the pandemic virus is 'uniquely adapted to infect humans', raising fresh questions over whether its origins were natural or could have occurred in a laboratory.

“Oral antivirals have the potential to not only curtail the duration of one’s COVID-19 syndrome, but also have the potential to limit transmission to people in your household if you are sick,” said Timothy Sheahan, a virologist at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill who has helped pioneer these therapies.

Sounds interesting, thanks Suze.

I am totally disgusted with the N.S.W. Premier stating on her 11am report on Monday ,asking everyone to keep getting the vaccine to see us out of lock down and in the next breath she said that from 1st December unvaccinated people will be able to enjoy their freedom as well???? This is a big con. Here we all are doing the right thing and now the unvaccinated are thumbing their noses at the rest of us saying they have won. I certainly wouldn't want to eat in a restaurant with "maybe" the majority of customers haven't had the jab.  Listening to the radio says it all, everyone is furious at this news.

Hi Hola.

I an understand how you feel!

I have felt the same about that woman for months perhaps a year now, she is a rotten Premier that is for sure she takes her orders from the Prime Minister.  He is desperate to get the country financial and is really mad at the way the WA Premier has been managing this state.

It makes me feel ill as she does not care about people that have Diabetes who have had the Jab in the beginning of all this to protect them.  The Jab does not protect you even if you have had it we all know that!

However, it does help the body from getting a bad dose of the virus the same as we have the jab to protect us from the Flu.

The issue with people with auto immune illness is they are sitting ducks even with a bit of this protection.    I guess she doesn't car too hoots if a few more people drop dead.

I certainly would not vote for her.

Agree Hola about Gladys Berejiklian in NSW ... SO unfair!!!!

It's also been noted that NSW no longer publishes exposure sites in Greater Sydney or the number of people who have died at home.

Hola, how do the unvaccinated win? The vaccinated can catch and spread the virus just as easily as the unvaccinated. The only thing the antivaxxers win is the right to mix with the vaccinated and a greater chance in the lottery to need a hospital bed and potentially a ventilator. Don't cry tears for them if they get what they wished for.

Covid survivors are 50% more likely to be struck down with lasting symptoms of the disease than people who beat flu, study saysCovid survivors are 50% more likely to be struck down with lasting symptoms of the disease

Oxford University experts behind the study said it suggested there was nothing 'unique or special' about long Covid. Some 970,000 Britons say they are suffering lingering symptoms of the virus.

More depressing news.

Scary... I  was naively hoping things would improve this year ...

What a joke ... things are worse than ever now.

Hi RnR

I thought the scariest think I have seen of late is the people in mobs running up and down the streets in Melbourne and Sydney complaining!

They are really very dangerous to themselves and their friends and families.

I will be so glad to see the end of these people doing this and when they realize the dangers they have done to others and their own families to boot.

Have to agree Celia ... another lot at Coolangatta/Tweed border today just after it was announced a positive case had holidayed in the immediate area. What can you say.

It will be interesting to see the figures of infection increasing again and maybe "Freedom Day" might be postponed again.

Just reading  [or trying to] this news.

It reminded me of yesterday when I was in hospital and I was thinking of how many people around me didn't have a JAP?

How many is the question we should be asking not how many are sick.

It makes me start to be ashamed of Australia with so few people having the vaccine by now and it is October.

How many have to be permanently ill for the rest of their lives because they are too scared to have the JAP?

I was back in hospital with high blood pressure yesterday so once again I am having issues with reading so I shall give it a bit of a rest today.
