• 391 new from 127,988 tests, 390 locally acquired, 1 OS traveller in hotel quarantine, 2 deaths.
• Over 6,000 active cases, 391 in hospital, 63 in ICU (55 unvaccinated), 30 ventilated.
• An unvaccinated SW Sydney woman in her 40s died at home and a vaccinated man in late 90s died while under palliative care in the Newcastle area.
• There have been 6,874 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021 and 38 deaths.
• Of the 390 new local cases, 98 were in isolation throughout their infectious period, 43 in isolation for part of their infectious period, 58 cases were infectious in the community with 191 still under investigation.
• 140 are linked to a known case or cluster (118 household contacts, 22 close contacts), with the source of infection for 250 cases under investigation.
• In the past seven days, 705 of the 2,133 COVID cases in NSW were among children. The Giant Steps school for autism in Gladesville is closed after being linked to 18 COVID cases.
• New case locations include 138 in Western Sydney, 123 in SW Sydney, 47 in Sydney, 32 from Nepean Blue Mountains, 30 in SE Sydney, 7 in Northern Sydney, 6 in Western NSW, 5 in Hunter New England and 2 from the Central Coast. No new cases in Tamworth, Armidale and Byron Bay areas. 
• Authorities very concerned about Western NSW with 19 new cases now detected, 17 in Dubbo and 2 in Walgett bringing the total to 25 in the area. Wastewater viral fragments also detected in Bathurst, Parkes and Bourke.
• Another man has tested positive Bathurst jail, as a new arrival the 29-year-old man was routinely swabbed. He is not believed to be linked to the earlier case and has been in a single cell since arriving on Wednesday. Contact tracing is underway.
• Newcastle COVID outbreak allegedly caused by a Sydney woman who lied to police twice and twice defied orders to return to Sydney, before spreading the virus in Newcastle over several days. More.

• Deaths: Man in 40s Liverpool Hospital, woman in 70s Royal North Shore Hospital, man in 70s Liverpool Hospital (8th death of that outbreak), 3 men in 80s (2 Campbelltown Hospital, 1 Nepean Hospital), woman in 80s RPA Hospital and a 15-year-old boy from SW Sydney died at Sydney Children’s Hospital after being treated for pneumococcal meningitis and COVID. This is the highest number of daily fatalities NSW has recorded since the pandemic began.
• There have been 8,218 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021 and 56 deaths.

• New fears for Central West NSW after a Subway restaurant in Bathurst, two cafes in Orange and two in Mudgee were added to the exposure list overnight, close contacts urged to get tested immediately. In Western NSW the majority of the 98 active cases are Aboriginal and about 40% are children aged between 10 and 19. Dubbo remains the epicentre of the outbreak, with 95 of the 98 active cases and 32 out of Monday’s 35 new cases, and 49 of the region’s 57 venues of concern are located in the town. But in recent days there have been positive cases in Mudgee and Orange; and the first case has now appeared in Bourke.

• Victoria's health system under pressure as hundreds of health workers were forced into isolation after an outbreak at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Another 50 are isolating after a positive case went to the Werribee Mercy Hospital and Goulburn Valley Health has also furloughed more than 150 staff in Shepparton plus 23 emergency department staff now furloughed at NE Health Wangaratta after an infected patient presented to the department.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The cargo ship Ken Hou has docked at Fremantle Port carrying several crew members possibly infected with COVID. The ship was due to berth in Albany on Saturday, before 16 of its 22 crew reported respiratory problems and elevated temperatures.

WA Health said they would be tested on the dock, similar to the crew of other ships with suspected cases of the virus. Once the test results come back WA Health will decide which crew members go into hotel quarantine and which stay on the ship.
