Urgent recall for ice-creams

An urgent recall has been issued for a popular range of ice-creams due to fears the products are contaminated with a chemical.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) says two Häagen-Dazs items – Vanilla 457ml packs and the Classic Collection Mini Cups (four 95ml packs) – were being recalled due to ethylene oxide contamination.

The recall affects products with best-before dates from 4 July 2022 to 21 July 2023.

NSW Health describes ethylene oxide as a man-made flammable gas that is primarily used to make ethylene glycol, a component in antifreeze and polyester. It is also used to sterilise medical equipment and supplies.

The vanilla 457ml ice-cream has been sold nationwide through Coles, Woolworths and independent retailers such as IGA. The multipack has been sold through Coles.

The FSANZ says consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

I haven't eaten ice cream for at least 15 years - don't miss it at all.
