United Nations takes another swipe at Australia.
[quote]Australia has appeared before a United Nations panel in Geneva, accused of human rights violations against Aboriginal people and asylum seekers.
The UN panel is investigating whether the Australian Government has singled out Aborigines and asylum seekers with racist policies.
The panel has suggested Australia consider a treaty with its Indigenous people.
Three years into the intervention program in the Northern Territory, the panel is concerned some discriminatory policies remain and that there is a lack of Indigenous inclusion in local decision making.
The Australian Government was also pressed on its decision to suspend new immigration claims from Sri Lankan and Afghan asylum seekers.
The Government will present its reply overnight.

Naturally left wingers have no idea that you cannot have a treaty if you never had a war.
Why worry about details like that!
But then the UN is made up of mostly countries who hate their old colonial masters so never ever going to get a fair hearing when they can get 'pay back' so we need to start to get out of any treaties we have signed onto and then stand back and let them throw their darts of hate filled racism because it is racism.
Gee, I must be a "left winger". I have always been under the impression that when a treaty is signed to end a war, it is referred to as a "peace treaty". Numerous countries around the world have entered into treaties voluntarily to avoid war or to enjoy greater security in the event of aggression by neighboring countries.
While it is possibly fashionable to sneer at and deride U.N. inquiries, there is no denying that Australia has much to answer for in its treatment of aboriginies. Also, to single out Sri Lankan and Afghan asylum seekers seemed to be politically motivated to appease a disenchanted populace. Claims of racism in the decision are not unreasonable and if we are to criticise the human rights records of other nations, we had better be sure we have our own house in order first.
