Unit pricing on foods and high heels for babies?

The big supermarkets are really dragging their feet and now the Government is
giving them more time to get it together. :(
Even toothpaste on the news tonight was actually more expensive per 100grams
by buying the large size than the small one. No wonder they are adverse to
letting us know.
Thank goodness for Aldi who have had their goods costed at per 100grams
for awhile now and it is great.
........................................
BUT heavens to mergatroid those( regardless of the heels being soft) high heels
for babies before walking age just appear to be making babies look like well
anything but what they should look beautiful babies...... (just my opinion)

Re high heel shoes for babies. We live in weird times, Phyl.

Children aren't allowed to be children to-day.

I am surprised that unit pricing is not a big deal in Australia. It has been so for a long time in the US. I use the unit pricing often to change my purchase. I look at the price of an item, $2.36 for example, and then I look at the unit price right next to the purchase price. If one item says 7.2 cents per ounce and the next item says 6.5 cents per ounce I may change my mind. But now brand may make a difference. At least I am given the unit price to help me make up my mind.

Absolutely right Bob it should be our right to know for sure if we buy in bulk we are saving

money over just paying for the amount we really need. It makes a huge difference to me

and it is strange we Aussies are not jumping up and down and forcing it to be done

now! not in two years because it costs the big places too much money

Lets be honest those big Supermarkets etc. make over and beyond what they need to

really make to keep the profits acceptable.

All the best

Phyl.

I know Koko, weird.....

I remember my Mother many years ago asking a very elderly member of the family

if people were as bad in his younger days as they are now?and he said

Oh "Lily just as bad! but it was all hidden and not talked about" Nothing too

much changes.

Now what has that got to do with babies and high heels? don't ask me I jump

from one subject to another and often do 4 things at once. Talk about me

having a headache my poor suffering husband looks confuzzled some days

but it is always interesting so he says lol.

All the best

Phyl.

I for one don't think that these "high heels" for babies not only are a very bad idea--but also look silly too--who on earth would come up with such a silly idea.

Has to generation Y.

After all they keep on changing the packaging on things so you cant find them in the supermarket or making the product even better which usually means you hate it - like say Gladwrap - never buy it these days.

Also high heels are bad for adults backs - what on earth will they do to a baby or toddler learning to walk and soft bones?

Yes don't you hate it when they change packaging --I think most buy by packageing--our Woolies here has just changed the whole shop--as they are about to put in a Grog shop--there is one right next to them--but of course they will put that poor bloke out of business--By the way Val; what has gone wrong with the "glad Wrap" as I am about to need more.

They changed Glad wrap to be better and I found that it is worse! Doesn't stick to sides of plates and bowls etc when I use it and folds back onto itself. I was in local Coles and a lady said to me - if you have found that Glad wrap not to be so good - try the Multix one - I use their foil the wider one for roasting - so tried it and found it was a lot better than Glad wrap and it is more like Glad wrap was before they 'improved' it. Ha Ha blooming Ha - seems every time they improve something it is not as good.

I stopped shopping at Woolworth unless I cant get a product from local Coles - see I have only these two to choose from or an IGA and since the only so called "Independent Grocery Wholesaler" on the Island is owned 100% by Woolworth and also supplies their stores in Tasmania - we get very little extra choice of brands as you probably do on the mainland.

>

I do not buy generic anything and Woolworth's is putting so much of this on their shelves and most of it is brought in from overseas. Cole's own brands - the top being Cole's Own (was Farmland) is Australian market leader always. IE Cole's Cola 2 litres $1.49 is Pepsi Cola used to be Coca Cola but they stopped as too busy on their own label and their 2 litre is $3.56.

Cole's Butter 500g is Devondale. I don't buy their savings except in meat as that is always in my case Tasmanian or on the mainland Australian usually local farmers in your state.

Thanks Val will get that next time --yes Woolies are trying to get their own makes on the shelves--and they are from O/S products--I won't buy them--but in the long run there will be nothing else I guess.

I saw a news item recently where cattle and sheep farmers were starting to direct-market their products. It seems they are butchering and packaging their meat and shipping direct to the customer. This type of initiative as well as local "farmers markets" could prove to be the long term solution to the Coles/Woolies duopoly. If they can get the delivery side right and maintain quality control, I would certainly buy direct. There is only one way to overcome the retailing giants and that is simply not to buy from them........not easy, I know as they have had many years to ensure that we have nowhere else to go. I try to always buy my booze from an "independant" and never use a Coles or Woolies gas station for my fuel. I try to shop at Aldi when I can and keep my purchases from the "terrible two" to a minimum.

We have only Woolies and Coles here and a small IAG--(very dear and don't have a lot of stock) we have been promised a Farmers Market--but so far nothing--If I had somewhere else to shop I sure would.

I saw that program as well, Kfchugo. If people are interested, I suggest they look up TT /Ch7, and ACA, Ch9 websites, or contact the channels by email to find the info.

Farmers' markets have been a favorite of mine for ages. I go to a supermarket only when absolutely necessary. Also,, I go to local small business. The quality is far superior to the s'mkt stuff.

There is a street market on Pier Street, Altona (Vic), every Tuesday, where one can buy all manner of crafts, cheap DVD's and lots of things as well as fresh produce. That's just one example.

I would suggest contacting the council in your area to find out more info on street/farmers' markets.

Thanks koko, I will do some research on your suggestions

Plan B if you only have Cole's and Woolworth's and small IGA - then do yourself a favour and try to get any groceries at Cole's - cheaper by a cent or two and a dollar or two on meat but when they do their specials - they are really so much better than Woolies also their mark downs on meat in particular are better $1 minimum at Cole's 50c at woolies and Coles' often mark down by $2 or even more. I'm addicted to Continental Cup of soup - chicken noodle - special at Cole's $1 - following week special at woolworth's $1.29. Always the same - mean they are.

We only have Woolworth's in the village as well as one IGA but they are supplied by Woolworth's and their prices are a bit higher but no brands to speak of so cant go and get deleted old name brands - shame as they only delete them if they wont come to their party and take a hit on lower price for specials etc and pay for end of the aisle placement. I drive 16 k's to Cole's but save heaps on the Parmacy as one in village for example charges $12 for Herron's Arthiritis Cream whereas can get in in town for $6.29 and that high mark up applies to all over the counter medicines also those sold in the big two. What makes me annoyed is a lot of my generation pay the $12 when they can go next door to Woolies on some things like Deep Heat Arthritis which is $5.29 woolies - $10 next door chemist and $4.69 in Chemist - priceline in town plus Priceline do frequent shopper card which gets you a nice little bonus cheque when buying all those medicines you need because they are natural and have no side effects etc. Savings on pharmacy alone pay for petrol and then I do save on Cole's specials and Cole's do Flybuysnd as I bank with NAB get flybys from them too on my credit card which I use - then I cash them in for cash - also do get frequent shopper with Woolies but if you don't shop with them for 6 weeks lose all your points!!! Mean I tell you.

I shop there only for those brands cant get in Cole's - all C class stores here -small in other words and so having lost point with mean old woolies I buy a paper and use my card to keep them going - good tip!!

Safe buying Cole's Own brand because Aussie leader but not savings as these can be overseas and you do not know what they do to food - particularly China.

Hence their milk contaminated with Melamine as well as ice cream and yoghurt. Veggies grown in untreated human waste - and found to contain naturally E coli and banned chemicals like DDT and Dildrin and others which cause Cancer. YUCK. We are what we eat.

>

We are lucky to have a Farmers Veggie shed almost into town so go to Coles and then collect fruit and veg all grown local except for oranges and banana's which come from Qld - and at prices much lower and quality higher and fresher. I get frozen fish - only blue grenadier from a wholesale supplier who sells to the public next door almost and they supply restaurants all over Tassie - and their frozen veggies are these days - wait for it - CHINESE - when those who can afford it eat out in posh places they don't have a clue what they are eating. So glad we can no longer afford to eat out - saves the chance of being poisoned eh!!! Ha Ha.
