Ukraine

Just been listening to the UN Secretary General on the radio, he has announced that Putin has order vehicles into combat with East Ukraine but has told them to put their fire arms down and go home.

Everyone is on Putin's tack, but then that's the way it should be.  United front to show him the world is pissed off.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been stripped of multiple honorary sporting titles amid Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
It comes as sports governing bodies have imposed sanctions on Russian teams, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommending a ban for Russian and Belarusian athletes competing in international competition.
In the same statement on Monday, the IOC announced that it had withdrawn the Olympic Order, the highest award of the Olympic movement, from Putin.
On Monday, World Taekwondo stripped Putin of his honorary black belt as a result of the violence in Ukraine.
"World Taekwondo strongly condemns the brutal attacks on innocent lives in Ukraine, which go against the World Taekwondo vision of 'Peace is More Precious than Triumph' and the World Taekwondo values of respect and tolerance," the governing body said in a statement.
"In this regard, World Taekwondo has decided to withdraw the honorary 9th dan black belt conferred to Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013."
World Taekwondo added that no Russian or Belarusian national flags or anthems would be displayed or played at its events.
Furthermore no taekwondo events would be organised or recognised in Russia and Belarus.
The decision comes after the International Judo Federation (IJF) said on Sunday it would suspend Putin's status as Honorary President and ambassador.
The European Judo Union on Monday also withdrew Putin's status as Honorary President.
On Tuesday, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) followed suit by withdrawing the FINA Order previously awarded to the Russian president in October 2014.
Putin had been awarded FINA's highest honor as a result of his "important support" in the organization of major FINA events in Russia.
FINA said that while no athlete or team from Russia or Belarus could compete under the countries' names or national flags, they could be accepted as neutrals. FINA on Sunday canceled the World Junior Championships which were due to be staged in Kazan, Russia, in August.
The World Short-Course Championships (25m) scheduled to take place in the same city in December remains on. "FINA remains deeply concerned about the impact of the war on the aquatics community and the wider population of Ukraine," a statement read. "FINA will continue to carefully monitor the grave situation and make further decisions as appropriate."

Europe's largest nuclear plant in Ukraine is on fire

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has called on Russia to end its attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. He says if the plant blows up, the effect will be "10 times larger than Chernobyl". It's important to note that this facility is far more advanced than Chernobyl, including in its safety infrastructure.

Zaporizhzhia has six nuclear reactors, making it the largest of its kind in Europe, and accounts for about one quarter of Ukraine's power generation. One report said the fire was about 150 metres away from one of the reactors.

This is madness IMO.

United States Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm says reactors at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station are "protected by robust containment structures and reactors are being safely shut down".

I am waiting for the Russian people to realize they have been told a lot of lies!

What then Putin?           I hope there will be a Russian revolt at least.

That could take awhile. Russians are not being told the truth as all outside contacts have been closed tot hem. All they have is what the madman tells them.

Also Netflix and TikTok hit switch on Russian access. I don't know about FB as I don't do any of these social media sites. But if FB hasn't, then they need a kick in the goolies!

Russia destroys the 'King of the Skies': Images show world's biggest plane after it was blown to pieces during assault on Ukrainian airfield

The images show the destroyed Ukrainian-made Antonov-225 Mriya (left), meaning the dream, at the Hostomel airport near Kyiv after it came under fire during a Russian attack on Sunday. The cargo plane (inset: pictured in 2020), which has six engines and weighs 314 tonnes, could cost more than $3billion (£2.24billion) to repair, a sum Ukraine's state arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom said it would try to get Russia to front up. Since the attack on the plane, images and footage have emerged showing the severely burnt plane, with black smoke billowing from the wreckage (right). The 'legendary' plane was originally designed by the Soviet Union when it controlled Ukraine as a Socialist republic. The Antonov An-225 Mriya was designed and built in Ukraine in the 1980s by the Antonov Corporation. The massive craft measures 275 feet (84 meters) long, with a 288-foot (88 meters) wingspan - almost twice the width of a traditional football field. And it is capable of carrying a payload equivalent to ten battle tanks or some 418,000 pounds (189,601 kg).

The face of evil!

A delusional Putin has again insisted that Russia is not bombing Ukrainian cities, despite fears that 100 people are buried under rubble after an apartment block near Kyiv was struck and after an attack on the city of Chernihiv which killed 49

Exactly.

Language of Ukraine peoples.

Languages of Ukraine - Wikipedia

The official language of Ukraine is Ukrainian, an East Slavic language, which is the native language of 67.5% of Ukraine's population. Russian is the native language of 29.6% of Ukraine's population and the rest (2.9%) are native speakers of other languages. Ethnologue lists 40 minority languages and dialects; nearly all are native to the former Soviet Union. According to a survey conducted in 2006-2007 by Gallup, 83% of the respondents preferred to conduct the Gallup interview in Russian.[1]

According to Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine the state has an obligation to ensure the comprehensive development and functioning of the Ukrainian language in all spheres of social life throughout Ukraine while guaranteeing the free development, use and protection of the Russian language and other languages of national minorities of Ukraine.

'Show us mercy… we thought we were liberating Ukraine from the Nazis': Russian soldier's plea as he reveals Kremlin LIED to them ahead of invasion… and he only realised when he saw famous boxers fighting for Kyiv

The prisoner, who said he is a lieutenant-colonel in the Russian national guard, gave an interview to Ukrainian state TV after being captured fighting last week - saying he now regrets his decision to join the attack while begging for 'mercy' for the rest of Putin's 'brainwashed' forces. The man said he was given the order to invade at short notice, and was told ahead of time that Ukraine had been overthrown by Nazis and his mission was to liberate the country. With no other sources of information, he said most soldiers believed what they were told - only to run into bloody and determined resistance. He said the realisation came for him when he saw two of his favourite boxers, Oleksandr Usyk and Vasiliy Lomachenko - agreeing to fight for the resistance. In a stark message to the rest of Putin's army, he said: 'I'm begging you, stop before it is too late... Russia cannot win here.'

Putin's invasion grinds to a halt: Kyiv claims to have destroyed dozens of Russian helicopters overnight, retaken a city, and killed 11,000 troops while Russians have captured no significant territory sparking hopes Ukraine could win the war

Russian forces resumed shelling major Ukrainian cities today, but have captured no significant territory after a weekend of heavy fighting with Kyiv claiming to have inflicted punishing losses. Thirty Russian helicopters moved to an airfield near the captured city of Kherson were destroyed overnight, Ukraine's military said, while also claiming to have re-taken the city of Chuhuiv, near Kharkiv, in the early hours - killing Russian commanders Lt. Col. Dmitry Safronov, and Lt Col. Denis Glebov in the process. Kyiv now says more than 11,000 Russian forces have died fighting, losses that experts say are 'slowly becoming unsustainable for Russia'. All of which has sparked hopes - however faint - that the unlikeliest of victories could be on the cards for Ukraine. Asked by the BBC on Sunday whether victory for Putin's men was 'inevitable' - as many had predicted before fighting started - UK general Admiral Sir Tony Radakin replied: 'No.'

Anonymous claims it has hacked Russian state TV broadcasts to show war footage from Ukraine

Anonymous claims it has hacked into Russian state TV to air footage of the war in Ukraine. The hacking collective said it targeted Russia 24, Channel One and Moscow 24 to show the realities of the savage invasion. Vladimir Putin has been telling Russians the invasion is a 'special military operation' and a peacekeeping exercise, cracking down on any antiwar dissent. Last week, the hackers claimed to have shut down Russia's space agency so Putin 'no longer has control over spy satellites'.

'After this Putin is finished': Military experts say Russian leader has bitten off more than he can chew with 'massively foolish' invasion of Ukraine and it marks the start of the end of his time in power even if Kyiv falls

Professor Michael Clarke said that sending soldiers to take Kyiv was 'massively foolish' and could become a 'peak Putin' moment that leads eventually to his downfall

Vladimir Putin's dream has become a nightmare... How long before his generals start thinking the only way out of this mess is to get rid of the man who created it, asks Professor MARK GALEOTTI

How long before Putin's generals think the way out is to remove him, asks Professor MARK

MARK GALEOTTI: Despite his bombastic rhetoric, and what looks like Botox, the strain is showing on Vladimir Putin's face (bottom left). His dream of a lightning war - Kyiv falling in two days and the rest of Ukraine within two weeks - has become a nightmare. The evidence is everywhere: a massive convoy bogged down in the mud (top right), smoking hulks of aircraft shot down by Ukrainian forces, and Russian artillery resorting to shelling apartment blocks and hospitals. Meanwhile, the invaders have even taken to laying landmines in humanitarian corridors and gunning down fleeing families - it is frightened and demoralised soldiers, unable to prevail on the battlefield, who commit such crimes. Yesterday came another, even more telling sign that Putin (centre) is rattled. In a surprise move, Russia announced that it would stop its onslaught 'in a moment' if Ukraine agrees to a raft of extraordinary demands. It must cease military action, change its constitution to enshrine neutrality, acknowledge the Crimea as Russian territory, and recognise the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent territories. So what is behind this abrupt about-turn

Four British soldiers including a teenager paid to protect the Queen are feared to have gone AWOL to fight Vladimir Putin’s invading forces in Ukraine.

A 19-year-old member of the Queen’s Guard, whose identity has not been revealed for security reasons, reportedly dropped his ceremonial duties as a Coldstream Guardsman and signed up for Ukraine’s International Legion of foreign volunteer fighters.

The soldier reportedly wrote to his parents before booking a one-way ticket to Poland over the weekend with an intention to then cross the border into Ukraine. He has since posted a photo of his boots on Snapchat, according to the Sun newspaper.

The shock development has sparked panic at the Ministry of Defence, with security chiefs racing to intercept the teenager in case Russia tries to claim that Britain has entered the war if active army soldiers are found fighting on the frontlines.

When Putin launched his brutal war to ‘demilitarise’ and ‘de-Nazify’ Ukraine, he warned foreign powers tempted to intervene that they would ‘face consequences greater than any you have faced in history’. Days later, the Russian despot put the Kremlin’s nuclear deterrent forces on ‘alert’, in a dramatic escalation of international tensions that sparked fear across the West.

And in a chilling threat at the weekend, Moscow vowed to punish London for its support for Kyiv, ominously warning: ‘Russia will not forget Britain's desire to co-operate with ultra-nationalist forces in Ukraine and the supply of British weapons to the Kiev regime’.

Ex-Army chiefs slammed the AWOL soldiers as ‘totally irresponsible’, and warned they could be jailed if they return to Britain.

Until now, only former military personnel from the UK are thought to have signed up for Ukraine’s volunteer army, and serving members of Britain’s armed forces have been banned from joining the war effort.

More than 20,000 people from 52 countries have already volunteered to repel the Russian invaders in Ukraine, where they will serve in a newly created international legion, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said over the weekend.

Roughly 150 British Army veterans who fought in Afghanistan have already signed up to support Ukraine’s troops after Foreign Secretary Liz Truss declared she would ‘absolutely support’ those who wished to sign up to fight as part of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The Government quickly distanced itself from her statements, however, with Downing Street releasing a statement reiterating it strongly advises against travel to Ukraine. And serving members of the British Armed Forces have been banned from accepting the Ukrainian army’s invitations to fight.

A couple of thoughts have come to mind over the last few days about this war in Ukraine.

I doubt it would have happened if KFK was in power, I was thinking back to when he was warning Khrushev over missiles being shipped into Cuba.

Also what Trump said about Putin!!   How intelligent he was!!

Why would Trump think Putin is intelligent?

The Russian air strike which hit children's and maternity hospital in the besieged port city of Mariupol was disgusting. Barbaric behaviour.
