Trams pass test on new track

Adelaide's tram extension from North Terrace in the city to the Entertainment Centre on Port Road at Hindmarsh has been given a test run.

Both types of trams that operate in Adelaide have been given a run on the new track today.

Rod Hook from the Office of Major Projects says the early feedback has been positive.

"We're testing for the power supply, we're testing that the trams activate the signal system and of course we're testing the integrity of the track and everything's fine," he said.

Mr Hook is confident the extension work will come in under budget, but says no date has been set for the start of regular services for commuters

Want to bet clay the grand opening will be a day or two before the election?

I wonder if Michelle Chantelois will attend? LOL

Three cheers for our politicians * * *

Years ago they pulled all the tram lines from around Adelaide now trams are in fashion.

They need to be seen to be doing something.

From what I read tram from Glenelg is overcrowded. Not much fun paying full fare and having to stand up.

Can anyone imagine the ladies dressed up in all their finery catching a tram to the Entertainment Centre? I have a vivid imagination but it doesn't quite stretch that far LOL

It would have made more sense if we must have it, to run it past the Adelaide Oval to North Adelaide.

Too many men in Parlament :coolmad:

Too many men in Parliament

I agree Mara however it seems to be more difficult for women to be taken seriously (or break through the glass ceiling) in politics following the actions of former (and current) women members in both state and federal parliament who strangely get singled out?

Isobel Redmond will change this IF she gets elected in SA on March 20th

It is interesting that women generally blame the glass ceiling, for the

lack of political representation, BUT, I believe that the real reason that

women, in general, do not get elected, is that women will not vote for

a women.

Interesting theory Innes but I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) a poll of Isobel Redmond had her more popular with women than men. Perhaps they are simply tired of the Rann BS?

Hi Tamwin, you are right about Isobel Redmond & other instances like

Amanda Vandstone etc. BUT, as a general observation, you must admit,

that there are many more women voters than men & yet, of the many who

stand, a disproportionate number are unsuccessful.

I do think that you are right about South Australians being fed up with Rann.

But I believe that this is part of a Political cycle. We will see what happens

in the 4 (I think) State elections in the next year. I think that you will see a

resurgence of Liberal State Governments. My observation is that the

majority of voters are basically wage & salaried employees, who will

naturally lean towards Labor, who, when elected, waste every penny they

can get their hands on, until they run out of money. Then when the State

is nearing bankruptsy, they will install the money managers, to fix the

problem, then, when fixed, put Labor back in & start again.

Yes I agree Innes and it will be very interesting.
