Tony Abbott's sister to run for NSW Parliament

christine forster

Tony Abbott's sister Christine Forster has announced that she will run for NSW Parliament when the existing member for Illawarra, Greg Pearce, retires in mid-November.

Ms Forster, who has previously questioned whether her party "could actually ever see fit to do the right thing" on same-sex marriage policy, will run for a NSW upper house seat.

Ms Forster wants to marry her long-term partner Virginia Edwards. Tony Abbott has often and infamously opposed marriage equality in Australia.

How do you think this will turn out for the Abbott family?

They are both Libs and would be in different parliaments so I doubt it will present a problem for the Abbott family. Unless of course, Christine becomes more successful than Tony one day (and that wouldn’t be hard because he is already a failed politician in the eyes of many). I don’t think he would like to be outstripped by a woman, and especially one in his own family since he was brought up as “the golden child meant for great things”.

Why do you expect all members of a family to agree on all topics or members of a party?

Petsonaly I admire the Abott family .

Where did I say I expect all members of a family to agree on all topics or members of a party?????

I admire Ms Forster for standing up for same-sex marriage despite her brother Tony Abbott's contrary view. I cannot, however, admire Abbott: among other things, he lied constantly as Opposition leader and PM; he destroyed Gillard, and government efforts to mitigate climate change, with his "carbon tax" rhetoric (which Credlin later admitted was a lie); he is actively trying to destroy, in a personal vendetta, Turnbull's leadership; and he now travels the world on the tax-payers' dime giving speeches full of absurd, easily rebuttable, claims. All in all, he was a hopeless PM who achieved very little during his tenure.

Sorry Robi I should have addressed my reply to Leon .

Ghoti or Fish your reply is a political party rant..

Brocky:

Rather than simply dismiss my post as a "political party rant", perhaps you could show me just how it is so.

Is any of my claims incorrect? For example: Abbott is a proven liar - right or wrong?

You said you admire Abbott. Care to cite the reasons for your admiration?

Well starting with Leon’s post he makes the statement that Abbott infamously opposes Marrige equality . And you say he destroyed the Gillard Govt and her efforts to mitigate.  climate change . And that he was a hopeless PM ,

All political postions I would disagree with.

Leon made this thread about what do we think Abbott’s sister standing for Parliment have an effect on the Abbott family .

As I admire the Aboot family and their public service I feel no effect whatsoever ever .

Brocky:

Sorry for the delay in responding (I suddenly had some urgent work to do).

I asked you to show me how my post was a "political party rant"; you responded by referring to what Leon wrote - nothing to do with me! But, in Leon’s defence, Abbott is free to oppose marriage equality, a right that all sides of the debate acknowledge. No criticism there.

It is self-evident that Abbott “destroyed the Gillard Govt”. In abolishing the so-called “carbon tax” he also destroyed “her efforts to mitigate climate change”. That’s a matter of fact, not a political position. You might not agree that Abbott was a “hopeless PM”, but his own parliamentary party thought he was so hopeless that they themselves got rid of him - if I agree with a Liberal Party action, am I necessarily engaging in a "political party rant"?

I asked you to show that my claim that Abbott is a proven liar is incorrect. You ignored that request. And I asked you to cite the reasons for your admiration of Abbott? Your only reason, apparently, is the Abbott family’s public service. How, I ask, is a politician doing their job a “public service” any more than is a butcher, baker or candlestick-maker doing their job? In most cases, politicians are paid far more than their talents would earn them in the private sector. And they have numerous lurks and perks of which Abbott (and many others) take full advantage.

It seems to me that your post is far more a “party political rant” than was mine.

Funny, funny, funny.

I can see the agenda:  coal heaters to be brought into schools, hospitals and all other government institutions.  Who needs it.

From what  I've heard Tony Abbott and his sister get on very well as "brother and sister". Although they differ in some of their politics, they both belong to the same party and there is little doubt in my mind they will support each other.

Quite right Banjo. I'm sure they're laughing their heads off as they read this thread, LOL

Another Abbot in parliament? . No thanks, one was enough, sadly he is still there, for gods sake Tony retire and get off our TV.

Two Abbotts .....oh god No.

Other than being gay, with a same sex partner, a supporter of same sex marriage and is Tony Abbott's sister, what do you really know about Christine?

She was married (to a man), has 4 children of her own (and two from her partner's previous relationships), went to university, was very involved with student politics at the University of Sydney, as a member of the conservative coalition, the Democratic club, and as a student council representative. She studied economics and accountancy - the latter because the alternative major was political economy, 'which she is quoted as saying "screamed of left-wing looney politics to me''.

She has been in politics allbeit at a local council level since 2012. She has always been a conservative even if she and her brother disagree at times. Which siblings don't? The fact that her brother is a former Prime Minister, does not mean she should be judged by his actions. If she does enter the frey at the next election, she should be judged on her own merits not those of the Member for Warringah.

Well said KSS

Agree

Quite frankly, Leon, it is no one else's business but their own!  We would all do well to mind our own business, and leave them to get on with their lives.

Nothing going in the looks department . Hope her politics is Ok

What's her "looks" got to do with it? Put up a pic of yourself and we'll see how you compare.

Even Juliar was better looking

Now Julie Bishop - there's one gal that makes an effort, keeps fit and dresses in style

Bishop is very scragy and also a mean nasty BITCH and has a face you could crack rocks on and has a personality to match -- proved by the way she treated those that were dying of Asbestos

That is photo shopped. Too soft for Bishop. We all know she has a hard face that you can “crack rocks on” as PB says.

you women are just jealous

and she's not a leftie . Bishop would make a great PM

No she wouldn’t. She’s incompetent. Her latest exploits will possibly get us all blown to kingdom come soon.

Gorgeous future Prime Minister -  beauty and brains
