President Trump's new HYPERSONIC jet: Air Force awards $1.5 million contract to develop Mach 5 - 4,000mph - plane for presidential fleet

Air Force awards $1.5 million contract to develop hypersonic Mach 5 plane

The contract, announced by aerospace firm Hermeus on Thursday, will fund the development of a small passenger jet that could replace the Gulfstream-based planes currently in the presidential fleet. Though the current aircraft under consideration would be too small to replace Air Force One, it could conceivably someday be used to transport Cabinet members, Congressional delegations, and other officials whose transport is overseen by the Special Air Mission. The Air Force investment, awarded through AFWERX, is worth $1.5 million and will be used to evaluate potential hypersonic military transports for an aircraft seating nine to 19 people, according to Aviation Week Defense Editor Steve Trimble

These jaw-dropping aerial and internal shots show a top-secret Soviet ground-effect vehicle bigger than a jumbo jet lying abandoned on a beach where it will be converted into a museum. The futuristic-looking MD-160 Lun-class ekranoplan was towed by tug across the Caspian Sea last month as part of a 14-hour journey from Kaspiysk naval base to Derbent, Dagestan. The non-operational ground-effect vehicle, which was designed by Rostislav Evgenievich Alexeyev in 1975, had been sitting unused at the naval base since it was retired in the late 1990s but it has now been beached amid plans to turn it into an oceanside tourist attraction. The MD-160, also known as an Utka, is bigger than a 747 jet and was built as part of the Soviet WIG programme, which dates back to the Cold War 1960s. It is the only Lun-class ekranoplan model to be completed and was equipped with carrier-killing supersonic missiles.

What a strange looking craft.

Just put these up these as part of a post for On This Day ... I thought there would be a lot less flights in the air this year as compared to last year BUT the two shots below don't look all that different to me.

Flights a year ago, 27 August 2019 at 9.00am.

Flights today, 27 August 2020 at 9.00am.

It helps the pollution with less flights too!

But there still is too many planes up in the sky.

I like to watch the differences in the oceans with the various boats RnR

He was very lucky to have escaped without any serious injuries.

I was surprised how many planes Oz is holding for security while there is limited flights around the world.
