The five dirtiest jobs

The YOURLifeChoices team has listed its five ‘dirtiest’ jobs. Do you agree? Tell us what you think should be on the list!

Sewer cleaner
All of the waste which goes down your toilet ends up at a processing plant. On occasion, things get stuck and the waste will either spew out of the drain somewhere or, some person needs to climb into the system and unclog the problem. Since you’ve probably never seen sewage spew onto the street you can guess which option is usually chosen.

Disaster cleaner
If a major disaster strikes, a group of dedicated people have to do the dirty work and clean everything up. It can take months to clean up a disaster area. These workers compare it to getting dirty in your garden one dreary Sunday afternoon, every day of your life.

Cow inseminator
While it may not be dirty, it does deserve to be on our list. These men and women are responsible for helping artificially inseminate cows to make farming go a little faster to keep up with the demand for fresh meat.

Food processing worker
Food does not simply get from an animal to your table. There are a number of people working along the line involved in some of the most dirty, messy and smelly jobs in the world. A visit to your local abattoir can bring even those with the strongest stomachs to their knees.

Underground worker
We have all seen someone come out of a mine, underground dig or tunnel building project covered in mud, dirt and any mineral you can name. It takes a very long hot shower and a whole bar of soap to get these workers clean. Working in damp, dark and poorly ventilated conditions, we take our hardhats off to these workers.
