Telstra service

Last wednesday (1 June) my electricity was cut off.
I waited for a while to see if it came back on so when it stayed off I went to ring the supplier but found my phone was dead also.To make matters worse I tried to ring on my mobile but the battery went flat.
I went for a drive and saw that a dozer had ripped up the telephone cable near the telephone exchange.
Later when the power came back on I charged my mobile ans phoned Telstra.
I got the usual hard to understand Indian and explained to him about the damaged cable and the location of it.
He assured me that he would phone me back shortly with an update to my service.
I am still waiting for this call. I am not sure what he meant by "shortly" but I would not consider 6 days to be shortly.
A few days ago I was pleased to see a Telstra van at the scene of the damaged cable .... and then it disappeared having achieved nothing.
The damaged cable has copper conducters with paper insulation and a lead sheathing.
After 2 days of rain the paper insulation is now useless meaning more work is required than previously.

David Thodey keeps telling us how he is improving customer service but I am yet to see ANY decent service.
My phone and surrounding neighbours phones are still not working.

That is well justified criticism fwed. The Government that you voted for

many years ago installed these cables & made sure that no other

Company could compete. They then sold the shares for about 1 1/2 times

their current value. You now have the choice of using any number of other

suppliers for your land line. Because of the Gov. regs. all these suppliers

are using the same cable at a rate that loses Telstra money. Optus have

the right to install opposition cables at an estimated cost of $15B. Why

do you think they haven't done it?

innes, it does not matter who you pay for your service.

If you use optus and the cable gets cut, Optus will not fix it.

Telstra may fix it when they are ready --- whenever that is.

Meanwhile I am paying for a service that does not exist.

Yes thats right Telstra seems to be responsible for fixing all lines--also fewd I think you meant JUNE not JULY ?

Thanks PlanB , edited to june

innes, it was the government that YOU voted for that installed my faulty cable.

I see it clearly now ................. it is all your fault.

Good one, fwed.......I think that Innes' strategy is to make sure he always votes for the LOSING party so that he can blame government ineptitude on the rest of us.

Why do some people blame the government for everything?

It is nothing to do with what went on years ago. It is to do with Telstra spending less on maintenance so bigger profits can be made for the CEOs and the Shareholders to the detriment of the customers.

Ring and ask every day Fwed, several times a day and tell them how it is being discussed all over the Internet and how it won't exactly make the company look good to future investors. :)
