Telstra accounts - make sure you check them fully

A word of warning, please make sure you check your Telstra phone bill fully and carefully each time you get one. Due to always having to ask for extensions on the time to pay due to my very limited income and still having to pay a mortgage I have over the last few months not been as diligent with checking as I should have been. When I turned 60 last year and got the pensioner concession card ( money wise I still only receive the widow allowance and not a pension) I notified everybody -including Telstra- of my new card. A couple of months after that on one of my many phone calls to Telstra it was decided in the conversation that I would be better off with the discount off of my line rental than the free calls bonus I had. That was done and the discount applied, however from May this year on I was having so much trouble paying the bill that I did not notice the pensioner discount was no longer being applied. I only picked it up when I got this months bill and there was a note on there about the cost of the calls going up and there was no change to the pension discount. Now I had already been onto to Telstra the day before because their new way of doing the bill it looked like there was an error on it, that was fixed but the lack of pension discount was not picked up.When I rang today (30/9/08) and was transferred eventually to the right dept it turns out that for four months the discount was not applied, upon the person fixing things it turned out I was due a rebate of fifty dollars so I got them to take it off of this months bill , so please regardless of late payments make sure all your discounts are always applied.

Yes I hate the new bill--I do always check it though as I do all my accounts--sneaky B&%#@&s;they are --I was on caped calls but they changed that too--now I can only ring STD after 7pm as it would cost a fortune to ring b4 that. The only reason I stay with them is beacuse have the pension discount it is cheaper rental. Other than that I use my mobile to call STD after 7 pm as I have a $20 month plan that allows me to call ANY phone for nil ---after 7 pm for 20 mins a time--and saves me a heap. The only reason I use the land line is for this dial up internet and once I go to Broad band I will save on that too.

I too hate the "new - improved" Telstra bill. I used to get two pages - gave me all the information I needed - now I get page after page of information I don't really need or want. But then, they did raise the charges, so they do have to somehow "justify" it.

Yes we get extra pages and they state on the bill it is a NEW type of bill to save trees !! ??

So how much is line rental with Pension discount. I have the discount on local calls but as I only make one or two a month and mostly 13 calls doesnt help much. I pay $19.94 for line rental - can you get it cheaper than that?

Val, I am with Telstra--and the rental for the plan I have is $29-95 per month--from that I get I get

$17-70 per month off with pension discount which brings it down to $12-25 per month. However this plane only allows me to make STD calls after 7pm of anight--the ones through the day are $2 for 20 mins and after that cost a lot more. If you want a plan with them that allows you to make caps calls all day--the rental is more. I also get $33 from centre link every quarter for phone and internet.
