Taking those sticky labels off jars.

I wanted to take a label intact from a jar to put on another jar but how?

I went to Simple Savings :) and found out to use a hot hairdryer and walla off came the label easily and all in one piece with no sticky residue.

Nice Jam jars  with a good  lid  can be used again because the label can be removed without the residue and work to try and get the last bits of tacky off.

Tea tree oil is good for getting those pesky labels off those jars, :-)

Useful tips on here.

My mother-in - law sprinkled salt on fruit salad and on sliced bananas, does make it taste better IMO.

Do not know if it tastes better but sure would be less healthy I would imagine.

Thanks all of you - we really are a smart lot aren't we?  I will certainly be trying the hair-dryer trick forthose pesky labels.

I also use the baking paper trick,   I also use a damp clean clothh to put between the sandwich maker IF any food has escaped --  when it has cooled a bit ---easy as to wipe off.

When I want to grill fish I just put a piece of baking paper on the sandwich maker, then the fillets on that, then another piece of baking paper on top of the fish.  A minute or two you have lovely cooked fish and best of all NOW WASHING UP.  :)

When we go away anywhere for a few days I always take my sandwich maker...can cook eggs, bacon, sausages or whatever you want on it (just leave the lid up of course ) and a roll of baking paper.

Whoever invented the baking paper, a big kiss for you!

If you own one of the big  round pyrex cookers  you will know how heavy  the bowl is to take to the sink or dishwasher to wash and every time run the risk of dropping it.

I line the bottom and up the sides an inch with Aluminium foil and then put the wire rack with all the food to be cooked on top. When time to wash and cool I carefully roll the aluminium  foil up and chuck it and then I wipe the inside of the bowl with white vinegar on some paper towel and dry with same and walla NO LIFTING the Big Bowl and run the risk of dropping it. Once in a blue moon because it can get some brown cooking marks on it (nothing to care much about really) but just fill the bowl with warm water and a bit of bleach and walla good for another 6 months without lifting it to wash again. Just rinse very well but you clever people all know this.

Enjoy today folks as this one is very special.

Hey Phyl I think you must be peekin in my kitchen as I do that with my bowls too.  I am all for the easylife now.  Recently I bought a really good cooking pot over the internet ..........called an Ergo pot.   No need to put any oil in at all.

Another good item in my kitchen is my Kambrook oven.  It has a hot plate on top which I use ocassionaly and when I want to heat up some small frozen party pies I just bung them in the microwave on defrost and then give them a warm up on high which heats them right through then I put them into the small oven and crisp them up for about 5 minutes.  Saves time and electricity as I rarely use my built in wall oven now.

Your Ergo Pot sounds great Radish.

I have the small oven with the two hot plates and it makes cooking in the one area quite good and does keep things warm also. They are very reasonably priced now at Sams. Warehouse. I also use the biggish round oven with the air quite a bit.

We had to go buy a new computer this week plus we will have to go buy a new dishwasher tomorrow as both died together and beyond repair. Nothing more thanks at least for awhile.

I do the same Vivity but my little toaster oven is very old now and I was thinking of buying one with the hotplates on top but do they get warm while the ovens going?, I mean with old my Russel Hobbs the top gets pretty hot and I sit plates on it to warm them, do you use the hotplates much, I have a gas stove but use the wee oven regularly for reheating pizzas etc

yes you can sit your plates on top and warm them up i do that.

Thanks Radish, there are so many differing brands and prices that I 've been dithering about it for awhile now, dunno whether to go for the dearer one or if the cheapies last just as long, I''ve had the Russel  for about 3 yrs but the first time I cleaned it I used the wrong stuff and it ended up a horrible grey matt blotchy  looking mess but I carried on using it anyway lol.

Well I currently have a Kambrook as I said in my previous post and it has the hot plate on top.

It is nigh impossible to clean these small ovens as they are made of an aluminium type of material and like you mine is a bit horrid looking as well but I clean it as best I can.

However, when Target had a recent sale I went a bit beserk and purchased a Sunbeam mini oven t a very good price which has yet to be taken out of the box lol.

When I do get around to using it (when the other dies etc) I will try and line it with alfoil (even though you it may not be a good idea) or something to try and keep it a bit cleaner than the current oven I have

My most definitely regularly used item, and has saved me a lot of money, and much loved bit of equipment is my little electric lawn mower. Saves me at least  $35.oo a month cost only $134 .oo 4 years ago very very light to use and gives me about an hour of walking back and forth to get neat back and front lawns! I know it is not in the kitchen but I did want to share 2 friends have also bought them recently and tell their husbands to do the vacuuming, much heavier work, while they mow the lawn!

Do they cut o.k. Viv.?  silly question as you would not use it if it did not.

I would like Peter to have an easier one now as just small lawns to cut and with his Emphasema the very big one we have (almost commercial) is very heavy and not really manouverable for a smallish space now.

We will look into that tomorrow - that would be the third thing to be upgraded in a week ho hum lol.

We do love to shop anyway though - new comp. taking a bit to get used to but will be good.

Mines an Ozito and has a cord in fact I need 2 15m cords to reach the road edge, has adjustable height of blades and adjustable handle, by doing it when I see it needs it I don't let it get too long. Easy.

We have a flymo too that I use in the warm months and I also have an electric cordless sweeper with detatchable hand vaccuum, much easier than lugging around a heavy cleaner and works great, I have mostly wooden floors and a couple of rugs so suits me fine

maggs, what brand is your electric cordless sweeper...been thinking of getting one for ages.
