Taking those sticky labels off jars.

I wanted to take a label intact from a jar to put on another jar but how?

I went to Simple Savings :) and found out to use a hot hairdryer and walla off came the label easily and all in one piece with no sticky residue.

Nice Jam jars  with a good  lid  can be used again because the label can be removed without the residue and work to try and get the last bits of tacky off.

Seggie. Thanks, Phyl. Out comes the hairdryer tomorrow.  Love to you and Peter and all.

Anything for you Seggs.

Thanks for that tip Phyl, will try it next time instead of soaking and rubbing and soaking... arrrh well you get the message..LOL

Seggie. Thanks for the hug, Phyl.  Now we have found you and Peter again, where is Seth?

That is a good tip Phyl.but I don't have  a hairdryer I will have to use my crah\ft heater

You can borrow my hairdryer Tadpole, I don't use it much, it's that old but still goes when I need it...LOL Might get a bit more use now when the jar labels need removing......

Some labels are bettter than others to take off  arn't they Deanna - I wonder why they do not make them all easy peel.

I agree worried about Seth Seggie. Still no answers to e- mails.

Taddy. I am not sure what your craft heater is? Mine has wax you melt in a little gun :) btw give me time I am a ruminator lol but planning my big trip to Qld. September. I forgot you asked. Thank ya kindly mam.

..

I am over the "can't be bothered cooking today" so  going to make my U-beaut Spag. Bolognese which is just wonderful lol  BUT not for those like tomato paste but milder made with a can of tommy. soup.

I had noticed that Phyl, some labels are quite easy, the jars with the hard ones on just go into the recycle bin.... Spaghetti Bol.....my grandkids looooove Spag Bol....

Speaking of tomatoes, I was at my daughters house today and she was making toasted sandwiches for lunch, (she has some in-laws staying with her) I noticed that she sprinkled sugar on a couple of the sandwiches (which had tomatoe on them), when she noticed the look on my face she laughed and told me that was the order given, we were then advised that the sugar prevents heart burn from the tomatoe.... Has anyone else heard of this???

Tomatoes already have sugar.  Added sugar does not reduce acidity as anyone with a basic knowledge of chemistry will tell you.  It masks the acid taste but your stomach and oesophagus will still react to the acidity.

The only way to have low acidity tomatoes is to have them ripen thoroughly on the vine.

It so happens that the sugar will also increase but that is a separate issue.  The sugar in a tomato is nothing compared with the other good things.

So, forget the sugar and choose well ripened tomatoes, leaving the paler red behind.

The same applies to capsicum, just as a reminder.

I have never heard of putting sugar on tomatoes Deanna but I know people put salt on lemons so "whatever" as  bratty kids say lol.

Like most of us I like salt and pepper on fresh bread and tomatoes. Must admit I love tomatoes when slightly green Nautilus and especially love red tomatoes (yes I know that is the colour of tomatoes) bop...lol but sometimes I pick a red one with  really green seeds and of all tomatoes I feel very lucky to get that one and it tastes beautiful.

Autumn is just lovely - nice days and cool nights so sleeping is a breeze.

The jury on McArthur's Cream is still out. Probably a bit expensive to boot but me being me has two pump packs because it was cheaper buying two with the free postage if order $100 but $30 cheaper for the two regardless, over the net rather than at the Health Shop.

Have a lovely Tuesday and remember every day ending in day is a good one ouch.

Re sugar+tomatos.

My dear old Italian Mum always sprinkled  a tiny amount of sugar into the spaghetti sauce.  It cut back the slight bitterness of the Leggo's tomato Paste, and, with long cooking, inmparted a beautiful sweetness and mellowness  to the tomato sauce.

I have, since, always done the same.

Re sticky labels.

Eucalyptus oil is great.  I put a drop or two onto gladwrap, and wrap it over the label for a while.   Peels off, no probs.

But am going to try the hair dryer system as well, next time.

There you go Koko I knew somewhere there must be a bit of Italian blood in my veins because that is why we use Tomato Soup rather than Tomato Paste in the sauce as we like the milder taste.

..

The Eucalyptus on gladwrap sounds good also. Maybe for a really difficult label that might be better than the Dryer, will give that a go also, as always have Eucy. in the cabinet.

Hi all, back to Deanna's daughter's toasted tomatoe sanga's.

I use baking paper to "preserve" the teflon coating on my compression toaster.

Toss it after a couple of uses.

Just thought I'd kick that one into the crowd.

I wonder if the hairdryer trick would work with plastic bottles ? Not game to try it though !!

To remove sticky labels from ANYTHING use Zippo lighter fluid.

If you buy 2nd hand library books, it removes all the old labels without harming the pages. Also good for removing labels from ornaments, crockery, boxes etc.

Leaves no trace and no smell. I always have a little can of it handy.

I always use baking paper to line everything;   saves on washing up  LOL.
