Supermarket giant forced to defend itself

A video has gone viral on TikTok purporting to show a Woolworth's customer weighing chicken breasts he had bought from the supermarket on kitchen scales at home.

In the video, the scales show the meat weighed 756g but the label on the packet stated they weighed 806g. When the customer added the absorbent pad that came with the chicken, only then did the scales read 806g.

But rather than pulling a dodgy and ripping customers off, a Woolies spokesperson said its chicken products were actually weighed by suppliers prior to distribution to supermarkets.

"Prior to customers taking the product home, liquid from the meat will naturally transfer to the absorbent pad at the bottom of the packaging," the spokesperson said.

"We have a range of checks and balances in place to ensure our products comply with strict trade measurement requirements."

Have you noticed any other products that don't quite measure up?

fish at woolworths a long time ago , the scales they use are not accurate, ripping customers off isnt always illegal

It's not only Woolies, it wasn't until I got home from Aldi that I thought that a product looked a bit light on and my home scales confirmed it. The next time I shopped I mentioned it to the store manager and got the same response as above that it was a third party's fault. To my mind it was Aldi's fault as I bought the goods from them, not the third party. The manager didn't take any particulars so I can assume that the third party was not contacted.

Moisture transferring from the meat to the absorbent pad does NOT alter the weight of the package. If the packing weighs, say, 50g, and the item is weighed after packaging at 800g, just delete 50g to equal the correct product weight, rather than lie about the quantity!

GOD tells us in the Bible:

Leviticus 19:35 Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity.

This issue should be referred to Fair Trading to look into - and fine Woolies for theft from customers!
