Supermarket giant forced to defend itself
A video has gone viral on TikTok purporting to show a Woolworth's customer weighing chicken breasts he had bought from the supermarket on kitchen scales at home.
In the video, the scales show the meat weighed 756g but the label on the packet stated they weighed 806g. When the customer added the absorbent pad that came with the chicken, only then did the scales read 806g.
But rather than pulling a dodgy and ripping customers off, a Woolies spokesperson said its chicken products were actually weighed by suppliers prior to distribution to supermarkets.
"Prior to customers taking the product home, liquid from the meat will naturally transfer to the absorbent pad at the bottom of the packaging," the spokesperson said.
"We have a range of checks and balances in place to ensure our products comply with strict trade measurement requirements."
Have you noticed any other products that don't quite measure up?
