Stupid signs and stupid drivers

YourLifeChoices member Stan emailed us this message and images from a recent road trip, which we are sharing here:

Over the past couple of months, I've spent some time on the road towing a caravan and by and large it's been a pleasurable experience with limited interaction with idiot drivers behaving badly.

Queensland has a limited amount of four-lane highway but in recent times has made an effort to construct passing lanes at regular intervals on the two-lane stretches. After a while, some of the signs caught my attention.

At the start of the overtaking lanes are signs proclaiming, ‘Keep left unless overtaking’ and ‘Allow overtaking vehicles to pass’. It seems a sad indictment on the mentality of some road users that these signs are necessary – and frequently ignored.

Another that caught my attention on a single lane country road at the approach to a bridge all of three metres wide was a sign advising, ‘No overtaking or passing’. Anyone contemplating such actions are brain dead and/or probably can’t read anyway so the sign is an expensive waste.

These South Australian signs are much more likely to get your attention than our signs in Queensland. I'm not sure why these and similar haven’t been adopted Australia wide.

What signs infuriate you? And which are clever and get the message across?
