Songs ti Stir your Soul.

On another thread there is an interesting discussion about slang and Aussie poems.
On a different note I wonder which songs stir your memories, or patriotism.
I am an Australian Pom (ex Air Force even) and while I am all for Australia now, a couple of things stir my English soul.
For instance, at the cricket Test matches when they sing Jerusalem - it really is stirring, and at Wembley stadium for the football final it is Abide with me - which has the whole country on it's feet.
They have used the same songs for ever and they have become ingrained in the culture.
In Australia I react well to I Still Call Australia Home, and they used to use Tina Turner's Simply the Best for the rugby final. I wish they would keep up the continuity and become Australiana.
What are your thoughts folks?

One that stirs me Jaxx, at an English football (soccer?) match, "You'll never Walk Alone", Gerry and the Pacemakers.

"I still call Australia Home" is another one, especially in the Qantas ad.

My two absolutely favourite songs are........

............. "And I Love You So"

and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'round the old Oak Tree"

Phyl.

As an AFL fan from the early days, I still get a shiver when I hear " Up there Cazaly "

Also "We are the Champions" one of Queens,

And who can pass up Satchmo singing "Its a wonderful world " :)
