SO much lost by Australia Post

Did people see the news and how much is stolen from the mail?

I know it is not the right thing to do to send cash through the mail but 14 days ago I did I send my grandson $30 and Grandaughter $30 and the kids keep checking the post but nah it has gone astray - not a sheep station but disappointing to say the least. I will send it off again but not the same sending a cheque.

How often are we told NOT to send cash through the mail?? DUH!!!!

Some people never learn!!!

I remember when as a child, mainly around Christmas when someone gave me some cash, ok, it was maybe 2 shillings and on an occasion was 10 shillings. That was exciting to me, so I can understand Phyl wanting to give cash.
Sadly it may not have worked out.
toria I have agreed with you many times in the past but this time I do not. You can rightly say "How often are we told NOT to send cash through the mail?" but is it necessary to add "Duh" ?

I know that I have offered statements that have been construed as insulting, but now I think we should be more understanding, even though we do not agree with a particular person's ideas.

I don't post much here now,as for me to do so would mean I would have to show my disagreement which has no effect on others, no matter what quality of debate we put up.

Here we go again!!!

Phyl

I have slipped money into cards, so you are not alone.

Perhaps standards have slipped now that being a Postie or government employee is no longer seen as a worthy vocation, or having permanency.  I hope I am not detracting from the work and honesty of any present or past staff of Australia Post in saying that.  However they do not seem to be treated so well by their management since corporatisation.   Contract employees are probably not particularly valued as well.

Honest to God Nautilus only 15 minutes ago I hung up the phone to my daughter and she was so excited to tell me the envelope for the kids arrived today but they had just arrived home from all the activities the kids do and it was in the box. It took 11 days to get from Vic. to Qld. so no wonder we all thought it had disappeared. Alls well that ends well.

...

It is SO nice for them to receive a card and money but of course we know the risk we take but not a sheep station anyway :) I have been doing it a long time and have to admit still will.

Have a nice night.

Glad to hear that all worked out well for your family, Phyl.  It is risky sending cash through the mail but I am sure that most of us have (and probably still do) send it with cards etc.

I have sent cash to family in Thailand (who have one of the shonkiest mail systems around) and lost very little.

Fwed I missed your post - thank you :) and it always has been fun for kids to receive a bit of money in a card. Typing does not always tell anything as it really is, as no inflection as is with face to face convos.

...........

Thanks kfc. The only times I have sent money and lost it was when I sent it to the wrong address. Are you back from your holiday in Thailand now? You say you are lucky to have your lovely wife but I think she is very lucky to  have you also. We are all lucky if we meet the right person and on the right tram together :)

Seggie. Hi Phyl. I do the same thing as you as children love to see 'money'. No good giving them a gift card; no excitement that way.  If it goes astray, so be it. If it doesn't, to know they have yelled out to their mother 'Mum, Gran.has sent money', that's enough for me. Handing them money too, isn't the same. Maybe I'm just a kid at heart too.

Hi  Seggie. We think alike.

I enjoy the fun the kids get with a bit of money for no set reason other than they have mentioned something they are saving up for and a little bit extra makes the "thing" attainable a bit quicker

Always lovely to hear from you matey.

Still enjoying using Moo Goo thanks to you.

I also send cash in the post, always have ,always will, and if that makes me a DUH!, who cares , not me ,,in fact I think I like DUH's!

Phyl so fwed finally arrived with your cash letter,

He is a bit slow, riding my bike with one leg,

I hope you forgave him.

$30 is a lot, When I give my grand children 5c

they are so happy they start laughing.

Will they ever bring back that great coin, 1c.???

3d was a good favourite, you could buy half

the lolley shop.

does anyone recall farthings and the halfpenny?

Seth do you know what? I was desperate for a bit of choccy. but with ALL the stuff we take and  things to exercise thought I better not eat a block of. SO just asked for one freddo frog and how much do you think it was? Guess? I was shocked so ate it really slowly letting it melt in my mouth and trickle down my throat as I wanted to get value for money lol

I have a halfpenny(1951)in my hot little hand I did have a farthing but someone thought they had a better right to it than I did

I have never seen a farthing to be honest Taddy. Is it very small or the size of the halfpenny.? I remember when our money changed and wonder what day I stopped reverting it back to non playmoney as it took a while to get used to it didn't it.

Phyl, a farthing is about the size of a sixpence (five cents)...... I have one which I have treasured for many years. I can even remember when they were currency in use....

I have hapeneys but can't remember the farthing but I understand the farthing was not minted in Australia. They were British coins.
